Boris & Horton – A Dog-Friendly Café Experience in NYCI recently visited Boris & Horton in the East Village with my daughter and our Yorkiepoo, Missy. I love the idea of a café where you can bring your dog and enjoy a meal in a fun, pet-friendly atmosphere—it’s such a unique experience in the city.I had the chicken patty with black rice and lamb with vegetables, along with a refreshing apple juice. My daughter ordered a bowl with chicken, and she really liked it. We also treated Missy to a dog-friendly cupcake, which was a sweet touch. The space was clean and had a relaxed, community feel. You can tell it's a place made for dog lovers. Now, while I appreciated the freedom for dogs to roam, that part came with some challenges. A few larger dogs walked up to our table while we were eating and tried to get at our food. Unfortunately, not all owners were mindful of their pets, which made things a bit uncomfortable. Missy, who isn’t used to being around a lot of dogs, stayed quietly in her bag next to me the whole time.Overall, I’d definitely visit again—just maybe during a quieter time of day. If you have a social dog and want a chill place to grab a bite, Boris & Horton is a great option. I just wish more dog owners would keep an eye on their pups so everyone can enjoy their meals in peace. - J M

Boris & Horton Introduce

In the heart of New York City’s vibrant East Village, a truly unique and heartwarming concept has taken root: a cafe designed for both humans and their four-legged friends. Boris & Horton isn't just a place to grab a coffee; it is a community space and a haven for dog lovers. As the city's first Department of Health-approved dog-friendly cafe, it offers a distinct experience that sets it apart from any other establishment. The founders, a father-daughter duo, created the cafe out of a simple need—a place to enjoy coffee indoors with their own dogs. This personal passion is what fuels the entire business, from the carefully crafted menu to the welcoming atmosphere. It’s a place where you can relax, work, and socialize, all while your furry companion makes new friends.

The cafe is designed with a thoughtful separation to comply with health regulations, featuring a cafe side and a separate "Dog Dining Room." This unique layout allows patrons to enjoy a full range of food and beverages in a clean, temperature-controlled environment while still being in the company of their pets. The cafe side offers a broad menu of coffee, tea, and food for humans, while the "Dog Dining Room" is a lively space where dogs are free to socialize, and owners can enjoy their food and drinks. The atmosphere is casual, cozy, and trendy, attracting a diverse crowd of college students, locals, and tourists, all united by their love for dogs. It's a testament to the business's success that it has become a central hub for the neighborhood's pet-owning community, hosting a wide array of events that go beyond just serving coffee.

Boris & Horton has built a reputation not only as a dog-friendly space but also as a high-quality cafe and restaurant. The menu is extensive and caters to a variety of tastes, from a wide selection of coffee and tea to a full brunch and lunch menu. They even have a "dog menu" with delicious treats and food options specifically for canine patrons. This attention to detail ensures that both human and dog customers are well taken care of. The business also prides itself on being a women-owned establishment that is LGBTQ+ friendly, which adds another layer to its inclusive and welcoming mission. For anyone in New York looking for a unique cafe experience that combines great food and drinks with the unconditional love of dogs, Boris & Horton is the ultimate destination. It’s a place that fosters genuine connections, not just between humans and their pets, but among people who share a common passion.

The cafe’s vibrant community and event-driven model are what make it truly special. It's not uncommon to find events like dog yoga, adoption events, breed meet-ups, or comedy shows on any given day. These events, often in partnership with local animal rescues, add a meaningful layer to the cafe's purpose, turning it into a force for good in the animal welfare community. This focus on community engagement makes Boris & Horton more than just a business; it's a social hub and a beloved part of the East Village landscape. It’s a place where you can feel good about your patronage, knowing that you are supporting a business with a mission that resonates beyond the food and drinks they serve.
