Community Food & Juice Introduce
In the vibrant and often overwhelming New York City dining scene, finding a restaurant that seamlessly blends style, a commitment to quality ingredients, and a casual atmosphere can be a real treat. Community Food & Juice, a long-standing fixture on Broadway in the Upper West Side, has carved out a unique identity by focusing on healthy and wholesome American fare. It stands out as a destination for those who prioritize food that is both delicious and made with care. The restaurant’s philosophy is built on using seasonal, local, and organic ingredients whenever possible, a practice that appeals to a health-conscious and discerning New York audience. This focus on quality is immediately evident in the elegant presentation of its dishes, which are often garnished with generous, fresh salads, a visual cue to the restaurant's dedication to nourishing food. The ambiance, described as "charming," "cozy," and filled with natural light, creates a welcoming and comfortable space that feels like a pleasant retreat from the urban bustle. It's a place that has become a regular spot for many, from Columbia University students to local families and friends catching up over a meal. While prices are reflective of New York City’s market, the "caliber of the cuisine" is often seen as justifying the cost, making it a valued part of the neighborhood's culinary landscape.
Community Food & Juice has a history of being a go-to spot for brunch and is particularly praised for its pancakes and huevos rancheros. Its menu, however, extends far beyond morning classics, offering a diverse array of options throughout the day. From robust salads to hearty sandwiches and sophisticated main courses, the kitchen aims to provide something for everyone. The menu is a reflection of its "American-eclectic" style, featuring dishes with a variety of influences and flavors. For example, you might find a classic CFJ Burger made with natural grass-fed beef alongside a Vietnamese Chicken Sandwich or Crispy Baja Fish Tacos. The restaurant also caters to various dietary needs, with many items being, or able to be made, vegetarian or gluten-free. This adaptability is a huge plus in a city where dietary preferences are so diverse. The service is often described as "fairly quick," "discreet," and "courteous," which contributes to a relaxed and enjoyable dining experience. Patrons appreciate the attentive staff who are there when you need them but do not hover. The restaurant’s ability to maintain a strong presence in a competitive market speaks to its overall appeal and the quality it delivers, despite some varying feedback on specific dishes. A consistent theme in positive reviews is the freshness and thoughtfulness of the food, even for simple items like a rice bowl or a club sandwich, which are praised for being "delicious" and "real food."
However, it is important to note that like any long-standing establishment, experiences can be inconsistent. Some customer feedback points to a decline in certain dishes, with a few patrons expressing disappointment over the taste and value, feeling that some items "are just not the same as it once was." A customer review specifically highlighted issues with the French Toast, describing it as bland and dry, and questioned if it was worth the price. This kind of varied feedback is typical for a busy New York restaurant and provides a balanced view. While the restaurant’s reputation for quality is strong, individual experiences can depend on the specific dish ordered. This makes it a place worth visiting with an open mind, perhaps starting with the popular dishes that receive consistent praise, like the pancakes or rice bowls. The fact that many customers are repeat visitors, some even calling it a "neighborhood classic" and saying they "love this place," shows that its strengths—its commitment to healthy food, stylish presentation, and good service—outweigh occasional shortcomings for a large portion of its clientele. The ambiance is another draw, creating a peaceful and comfortable setting that makes it a great spot for catching up with friends or enjoying a quiet moment.

Community Food & Juice Reviews
Excellent restaurant. Elegantly presented and generous dishes. Top-quality ingredients. Service is fairly quick and very discreet and courteous. Overall, there's a focus on quality and health, with generous salads garnishing the dishes. Prices are average for New York considering the caliber of the cuisine. In short, an excellent restaurant for healthy American fare with style in a casual atmosphere.
July 10 · Fabio ArangioThe food here is just not the same as it once was. Everything looks worse than it used to, and the taste has gone downhill. The french toast barely has any egg on it, and the bread itself is way too thick and dense, which made it very bland and dry. The syrup was good, but at that point you might as well be eating plain white bread with syrup. Not worth the price.
May 19 · Kenneth LiouGreat restaurant on Broadway in the Columbia University area for an early weekend brunch.
July 20 · Shawn Shawn (Shawn)My friend and I had an absolutely wonderful meal here last evening. The food, as always, was so delicious (I ordered the sesame salmon bowl) and the warm chocolate cake was divine! But what really made our evening great was the fabulous service of our waitress, Amanda, who was courteous, efficient, personable and just a delight! She is phenomenal and made our evening here truly special!
July 28 · Virginia PaoWas greeted by a warm flood of sunlight filling the space, casting a welcoming glow that immediately set a positive tone. The ambiance was undeniably charming—a blend of natural light and thoughtful decor that seemed designed to offer diners a comforting respite. However, glancing over, I couldn’t help but notice an unsightly stack of chairs in the corner, a detail that momentarily broke the otherwise polished setting.Service was attentive, with staff offering courteous and prompt assistance upon request. Yet, when it came to the cuisine, I found myself underwhelmed. For a restaurant of such acclaim, I expected a culinary journey marked by creativity and bold flavors. Instead, each dish, though adequately prepared, felt surprisingly ordinary, lacking the refinement and depth that would elevate the experience from pleasant to truly memorable. The coffee, too, was unexpectedly disappointing, perhaps among the most uninspiring I’ve encountered in New York—a surprising flaw for an establishment of this caliber. While there are undeniable charms here, I couldn’t shake the feeling that the restaurant’s reputation has outpaced its reality, leaving me to wonder if the journey was justified.
