What is Worth Choosing at Daikon Sushi Bar?
When visiting Daikon Sushi Bar, New York diners have a wealth of choices, but a few menu items and concepts consistently stand out and are worth highlighting. The fusion of culinary traditions is the main draw, pushing the boundaries of what local New Yorkers might expect from a Japanese restaurant.
Firstly, the Sashimi and Omakase selections are repeatedly praised for their remarkable freshness and high quality. Diners seeking the purest expression of the fish should opt for one of the Sashimi portions, such as the Bluefin Tuna or Scallop. For a curated experience, the Brunch Omakase ($24.95pp) is a particularly noteworthy choice, offering a chef's selection that a customer review highlighted as having "the freshest fish I've ever had," where "each bite was satisfying as the fish melts in your mouth."
For those interested in the unique European-Japanese fusion that defines Daikon, the Gunkan (battleship rolls) and specialty rolls are a must-try. The Flambé ($20.00) with salmon, tobiko, orange, chives, and teriyaki, or the decadent Caviar ($20.00) with salmon, cheese, and caviar, exemplify the restaurant's creative approach. While the creativity sometimes results in unexpected pairings—like the Forest Hills Roll which combines salmon and orange—these dishes represent the restaurant's commitment to culinary exploration and bold flavors.
The Appetizer selection offers great starting points, with the Oxtail Croquettes and the Crispy Salmon ($20.00) being two highly-recommended savory options that showcase the depth of the cooked menu. The Fried Gyoza ($11.00) is also a popular and satisfying starter.
Finally, the bar menu is a significant feature that enhances the entire dining experience. Patrons should take advantage of the impressive Sake selection, featuring premium choices like Soto Super Premium ($35.00), or sample one of the signature, inventive cocktails. The Yuzu Drop ($15.00) or the refreshing Cucumber Shisojito ($9.00) are perfect complements to the fresh, vibrant flavors of the food. These curated pairings of Japanese cuisine and a full-service cocktail bar create an engaging, modern dining environment that makes Daikon Sushi Bar a standout establishment in the vibrant Queens culinary landscape.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1An incredible spot for sushi! The brunch omakase was unreal. It had to be the freshest fish I've ever had. Each bite was satisfying as the fish melts in your mouth. Every piece of sushi was a religious experience! The gyoza was a great start to the meal.To conclude the meal, we tried the tiramisu which was rich and decadent.Would recommend!
August 04 · Tommy WuDaikon is apparently the Japanese side of an otherwise generically American restaurant with split personality (like a culinary Two Face), complete with its own Japanese-inspired menu.I hate to bring down a mom 'n' pop shop, but this place isn't very good. It's also kinda pricey for Forest Hills and for the quality you get. Sigh. The best dishes we got were the Oxtail Croquettes and the Crispy Salmon. Things started going downhill at the pretty but bizarrely flavored Forest Hills Roll, which inexplicably pairs salmon, tobiko, orange, chives, avocado sauce, and teriyaki mayo. I appreciate a creative/fusion roll, but salmon and orange should never, ever exist on the same plate. Ever. The worst item we got was the Chicken Udon. I'm not sure how aany Asian restaurant could mess up such a staple dish, but in Daikon's case, it's because they used Japanese SOUP udon, not stir-fry udon. As soon as the plate was set, I could tell it was the wrong type of udon, and the udon was massively overcooked.Yes, there are different types of udon and they are meant to be cooked in different ways. They are identifiable by their shapes, storage needs and preparation needs, a memo Daikon clearly missed. Points for loading the dish with veggies, but eating them within the soggy mess of udon was just unpleasant.
August 19 · Josephine LeeFantastic experience! New chef Momo was amazing and the sushi was top notch! I'll definitely come back here for more of the Sashimi!
May 09 · Jose LopezI’ll start with the very few negatives I have to get them out of the way because I did really enjoy the food here and my time. The truffle fries were a bit flavorless and only had the slightest hint of truffle. The Mac and cheese was also a bit bland but still decent and did not skimp on the cheese. Lastly, the drinks were so watered down. My friend and I both thought that our drinks legit had water in them. For the $16 and up per cocktail, I want a drink that packs a punch. On to the positive, the calamari was delicious, perfectly fried and not chewy at all. The sushi was also so delicious and I definitely recommend spending a little extra for the caviar roll as they use real caviar from Russe as I asked the server for clarification as to which one they use. For those who don’t know, a lot of restaurants will say they use “caviar” and it ends up just being roe or any fish egg without it being from the sturgeon fish. The service was perfect as our server was attentive and friendly. We skipped desert but I definitely want to be back and try their tiramisu. I also like the decor inside and the vibe of the place. Feels upscale but not to the point where it’s over the top or you feel you need to dress up. Good for casual meal with friends at a table or by yourself at the bar and also seems like a good date night option.
October 20 · JasonAs someone who considers themselves a food critic, I can confidently say Daikon is an absolute gem not just in Queens, but in the entire NYC . Chef Momo was behind the counter, crafting each dish with a level of care and creativity that’s rare to find.My fiance was surprised with the special roll made just for her . Every bite was fresh, balanced, and bursting with flavor. I asked the chef n he blends Italian n Japanese cuisine, it’s not an easy blending two cultures in the kitchen but Daikon nails it with elegance and innovation.Whether you’re a sushi purist or someone who loves inventive, high-level cuisine, Daikon delivers. This is the kind of place you make a regular spot or travel across boroughs for. Absolutely top
