★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1If you ever want to try stinky tofu, here's a place on Long Island that does it well. The tofu is fried and just stinky enough but not overwhelming. The rest of the stuff we ordered was also excellent. This restaurant has a big menu of Taiwanese staples and the service was very good. The staff was very accommodating to our vegetarian preference. They were out of some appetizers but did provide some good suggestions. The snow cabbage +bean curd sheets+ edamame dish was excellent. They also made us a dish of stir fried bamboo shoots with peppers that was slightly spicy and very tasty. Will definitely come back to try other things on the menu.
April 14 · Eric LamHypertensives and Diabetics beware!!I try not to give bad reviews, but hopefully the owner takes my criticism as constructive to improve and address the issues I had. I’m going to make comparisons to Taiwanese Gourmet in Elmhurst (in my photo posts) and Nan Bei Ho as I have been going there for the last 30+ years for Taiwnese food.First off, the food, most looks and tastes like authentic Taiwanese, but some dishes may have been altered to cater to the local demographics. My issues!Food was either very salty or very sweet. Too heavy handed with seasoning maybe. The pork chop with salt and pepper was made with spoiled meat. The chef knew that and tried to hide the flavor and smell. This is suppose to be a dry dish, since it’s fried and then just tossed in a wok with garlic, chilis, salt and pepper. But when we got it, was slightly wet, the chef put a splash of soy sauce and or a dash of black vinegar with some extra five spice powder to hide the spoiled meat flavor. The meat tasted sour with the rancidness that spoiled pork has. I’m quite the foodie and food connoisseur as I cook myself (and my dad, RIP, was a chef). The spicy beef and tendon noodle soup, too salty (heavy handed with the soy sauce) and the chili paste they used overpowered the dish. It made my taste buds shut down.Originally we ordered the pork stomach and pickled vegetables but they ran out of the pork stomach. So we ordered the spicy diced chicken (laziji) 辣子雞丁. I was so not expecting it to be so wet and saucy when it came. And to top it off, it was more sweet than spicy. Look at photos I posted. And finally the 3 Cup Chicken. I enjoyed this one the most but it was very sweet as well.Prices are a bit high with the portions they serve, I understand that the cost may have gone up, but I think they should look for another supplier that would want their business and offer competitive pricing compared to their current supplier. As rents in Flushing and Elmhurst is probably higher and they are able to keep their prices consistantly as low as possible.Had no issues with service and atmosphere. I don’t really care about those things as I feel it is the food that would make me want to return and it makes or breaks the deal. I can’t say that I will return again, unless they can address the issues I pointed out and be more consistent with their food.At this time, I can’t justify the closer 7 mile drive for me to Eatery 19, compared to the 25 miles drive to Taiwan Gourmet in Elmhurst or 22 miles drive to Nan Bei Ho in Bayside Queens. I really want to like this place, but the food just didn’t meet up to my expectations.
December 21 · Mike PWe order from Eatery 19 quite often because my child is absolutely in love with their dish, Sliced fish w. Sweet & Sour Sauce. Their food is consistently good and authentic. Service is friendly and they even offer special family meal for Lunar New Year.
February 27 · Peter HEatery 19 is probably one of the most authentic Taiwanese restaurants in NY 🥹🥹🥹. I particularly love their complimentary soup, popcorn chicken, braised pork with fried tofu, and three cup triumph mushrooms. The food is really tasty, and the service is quick and friendly. Highly recommended!
May 27 · Yu-Han ChenGreat Taiwanese spot. The wife says the stinky tofu might be the best her and her family have ever had. I had the railroad pork chop bento today -- the sausage that came with it was amazing
