For a unique and satisfying street-food experience, the Tacos Placeros are highly recommended. Unlike standard tacos, these are a hearty meal, and the Milanesa Taco Placeros or Longaniza Taco Placeros are excellent choices that represent true Mexican comfort food.
If you are seeking a full, traditional platter, look no further than the Platillos Especiales. The Bistec Encebollado Platter (Steak with Onions) is a classic Mexican dish that offers a flavorful and substantial meal, perfect for dinner. For seafood lovers, the Camarones al Mojo de Ajo Platter (Shrimp in Garlic Sauce) offers a delicate yet flavorful alternative to the spicier options.
For a truly authentic antojito, try a Cemita. These large, Puebla-style sandwiches, especially the Lengua Cemita or Cecina Cemita, are a specialty item known for their distinctive sesame seed bread, Oaxacan cheese, and unique herbs like Pápalo. Finally, no Mexican meal is complete without dessert and a beverage; finish your meal with the rich and creamy Tres Leche and a refreshing Aguas Frescas. El Jalapeño delivers consistent, authentic flavor across the board, making it a reliable destination for any Bronx resident craving great Mexican food.
A Note on Community Experience: We recognize that the experience in any local establishment can be highly personal. A customer review noted an issue regarding customer service and potential bias. It is always important for local businesses in diverse communities like The Bronx to maintain the highest standards of respectful and equitable service for all patrons. We encourage customers who feel they have received exceptional service, or those who have concerns, to communicate directly with the restaurant management to help ensure a positive and welcoming experience for everyone who comes to enjoy the delicious Mexican cuisine offered at El Jalapeño.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I got the machete with cheese and steak and it was so delicious. I really recommend this restaurant 😊
April 08 · Paula GarciaTypical Mexican fare that was satisfactory. It doesn't stand out.UPDATE: My Puerto Rican partner has been going to this restaurant for takeout for a couple months and the food has been excellent. We usually get the grilled chicken burrito, tacos or quesadilla. They are all awesome. The tortillas are obviously hand made and fresh; totally delicious. Now, I'm a frank person so I will say that we have this same issue I had at the Pastore bakery. This happens a lot with Latino owned places. Colorism, a form of racial bias, is a deeply ingrained issue within their communities, especially Mexican and Dominican descended peoples. I get this treatment a lot when I go in their establishments: ignored, passed over when next in line, subpar food and attitudes. I do not return to places I have those experiences in. Yet others may be more demonstrative about it in the store. I suggest that they vet people before they hire them.
April 04 · Saroya FannielPlace is a awesome. But the food we order me and Fiancé we usually order posole but it tasted days old not the first time this happens though and with pork inside it , I guess they just reheat it and dumped it in the new batch. My Fiancé has food poisoning now
