El Sabor Peruano distinguishes itself as a must-try local spot in New York for several compelling reasons, primarily centered on its authentic cuisine and customer-focused convenience. For New Yorkers looking for flavor and value, this restaurant consistently delivers.
The culinary offerings are arguably the strongest draw. The menu is a fantastic introduction to or continuation of the Peruvian food journey. Standout dishes like the **Lomo Saltado** are known for their rich, savory flavors and satisfying portions, which one customer noted were good for the price point. The freshness of the **Mariscos** (seafood) menu, featuring the classic **Ceviche de Pescado**—fresh fish marinated in citrus juices—provides a bright, zesty counterpoint to the heavier comfort foods. Patrons have also specifically highlighted the **pollo a la brasa** (rotisserie chicken) and the accompanying **hot green sauce** as a star of the meal, demonstrating the kitchen's capability across different traditional cooking methods.
Beyond the main dishes, the dessert options, such as **Crema Volteada** (similar to flan) and **Leche Asada**, provide a sweet, traditional end to the meal. Even simple elements, like the purple corn drink, **Chicha Morada**, offer an authentic taste of Peru, although patrons should be aware it can be quite sweet.
The overall dining environment is another reason to choose El Sabor Peruano. It offers a **casual** and **cozy** setting that’s great for a relaxing meal. This type of atmosphere, combined with amenities like a **free parking lot**, makes it an excellent choice for a low-stress evening out, especially compared to more challenging-to-access venues in other boroughs. The restaurant is also **good for kids** and accepts **reservations**, making it a practical choice for family dining.
While, as with any restaurant, there may be occasional service or stock issues—one customer noted a time when chicken options were limited—the general consensus points to **good food and great staff**, suggesting that any negative experiences are the exception rather than the rule. Customers are generally satisfied with the quality of the food and the size of the portions in relation to the prices, providing excellent value for an authentic international dining experience in the heart of Staten Island. For New York residents and visitors seeking genuine, delicious Peruvian food with convenient parking and accessibility, El Sabor Peruano offers a valuable and flavorful option.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Wouldn’t come here again, horrible experience. We tried to order chicken and other menu options and she claimed there was no chicken left, mind you most of the plates have chicken in it… so we basically didn’t have many options to choose from besides sea food. We don’t mind sea food but we came with more family and not everyone eats sea food. We decided to get whatever she recommended because we came a long way. There wasn’t much options left not sure why they were open still if they didn’t have anything left in the kitchen. There was only one worker working the register and being a waitress all at once. Food took quite a long time to arrive. I wouldn’t recommend this place. Only good thing was the decor inside the restaurant.
September 17 · Joc Torres SGood food, great staff !!Can’t judge a restaurant on one dishIt was my first time trying this place, and I just have the pollo a la brasa rotisserie chicken. To me the star of the meal was the hot green sauce, that accompanied the chicken, but the chicken was also savory. Now, I tried the chicha morada, purple corn drink, and it was so sweet that I couldn’t figured out if it was from real corn or what was made of. Prices are good, portions too, the place is comfortable and is located in a small plaza with parking lot.
March 30 · Julia MGVWas in the area and wanted a quick bite. Awesome little spot, server was very friendly and food was really tasty! Will go again.
November 16 · Maliq CumberbatchWalked in and was properly seated with my party.... All through attention was okay...The Parihuela was a two at best... Was missing that wao on the broth + fish was okay... The rest of us were okay with our meals + non were salty but did lack authentic flavors ... Can handle large crowdsPriced right for neighborhood/service addedMay return to try something different and then update the review...
May 19 · Klifford PilayThe restaurant is a little small, and the service is a little slow but friendly. The food definitely makes up for it. Everything tastes so fresh. You have to try.
