Hawksmoor NYC Introduce
In a city with a legendary steakhouse culture, it takes something special to stand out. Hawksmoor, the acclaimed British import, has done just that since arriving in New York. Located in the magnificent, historic United Charities Building in the Flatiron District, this is more than just a steakhouse; it's a grand experience from the moment you walk through the door. Hawksmoor brings a unique blend of elegance, history, and a modern, cozy feel that sets it apart. The restaurant is renowned for its perfectly cooked, dry-aged steaks, an impressive cocktail program, and a conscientious approach to sourcing ingredients. It’s a place that feels simultaneously a part of New York’s storied past and its vibrant, modern present. For New Yorkers looking for a special night out or simply one of the best steaks in town, Hawksmoor is a destination that delivers on every promise. The stunning ambiance, attentive service, and exceptional food combine to create a truly memorable evening that is, as one reviewer noted, "100% worth it."
Hawksmoor's philosophy is refreshingly straightforward: find the best possible beef and master the art of cooking it perfectly. This commitment is evident in every bite. They source their all-natural, pasture-reared beef from family-run farms across the country, dry-age it in-house, and grill it over live charcoal, resulting in steaks that are tender, flavorful, and have a signature char. The menu, while centered on steak, is far from limited. It also features a fantastic selection of seafood, including fresh oysters and Maine lobster, as well as creative starters and sides. The "Beef Fat Fries" and "Macaroni & Cheese" are particular highlights that have earned their own fan base. The restaurant also has a full cocktail bar with an award-winning drink list, and a well-curated wine selection, making it a destination for more than just dinner. Whether you're in the mood for a classic Rib-Eye or a show-stopping Porterhouse, Hawksmoor's menu is designed to delight every palate. The unique Sunday Roast is also a big draw for many, offering a taste of British tradition in a New York setting.
The atmosphere at Hawksmoor is a major part of its appeal. The restaurant occupies a space that was once closed to the public for over a century, and its historical grandeur is breathtaking. The dining room features soaring 26-foot vaulted ceilings, restored stained glass, and beautiful wood paneling, creating an elegant and historic backdrop. Despite its grandness, the space still feels warm, cozy, and inviting. The staff is consistently praised for being "warm and attentive," with one reviewer specifically mentioning the genuine welcome they received. The vibe is sophisticated yet unpretentious, making it a perfect spot for everything from a romantic date night to a celebratory dinner with a large group. The dessert menu is also a must-try, with the "sticky toffee pudding" being hailed as "unreal" and a more sophisticated cousin to the classic lava cake. It's clear that every aspect of the experience at Hawksmoor, from the food to the service and the setting, is designed to be exceptional.
Located at 109 E 22nd St, New York, NY 10010, Hawksmoor is conveniently nestled in the vibrant and accessible Flatiron District. The restaurant is easily accessible by public transportation, with several subway and bus lines within a short walk. For those who prefer to drive, both free and paid street parking are available, though New Yorkers know to plan ahead for parking in this part of town. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Absolutely fabulous experience from start to finish! The entire staff was warm and attentive-especially Valentina who genuinely made us feel so welcome.Drinks were on point—crafted beautifully and paired perfectly with the meal. Now, the food… WOW! The steak and filet mignon were cooked to perfection—tender, flavorful, and just the right amount of char. You can tell they know exactly what they’re doing when it comes to meat. The ambience is stunning—elegant yet cozy, with just the right lighting and atmosphere for a memorable evening out.And I have to mention the dessert: the sticky toffee pudding. It’s like a lava cake’s more sophisticated, indulgent cousin. Absolutely unreal!Yes, it’s on the pricier side—but honestly, you get what you pay for. For the quality of the food, service, and setting, it’s 100% worth it. Highly recommend Hawksmoor for a special night out or if you simply want one of the best steaks in town. Can’t wait to go back!
September 09 · Georgia PanagiotakosI love Hawksmoor, and the original for me will always be Spitalfields. I've been meaning to try the New York establishment ever since it opened but for one reason or another it didn't happen, until a Sunday afternoon in August 2025! As a Brit, that means a good roast dinner, and the first time I'd had one at a Hawksmoor and it did not disappoint! The beef was perfectly cooked, and tasted amazing! That signature Hawksmoor cooking method and taste! Top marks for seriously good food.
August 15 · Ryan AbramThis is a premier steak house with the original being in London. Our server was very attentive, knowledgeable and provided spot on recommendation’s. Top notch interior giving a high end old world vibe with style. The meat was delicious and on par with many other New York steak houses. Two must haves is the their signature old fashion drink and sticky toffee pudding desert. I would go back over and over and over again just for the desert. Yum!!!
August 25 · Antonio CaccavaleAbsolutely fantastic experience and perfect for a date night or special occasion. The atmosphere was romantic and moody with low lighting and lush decor. You definitely feel like you’re at a high end establishment when you walk in.We had a reservation for a group of 4 and waited a minute before they sat us at our table. They staff was extremely polite and directed us to a high top table while we waited, however we did not have to wait long. The host brought us into the main dining room to our cozy booth and we were seated with menus shortly. Our waiter was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and provided detailed recommendations for our tastes. Our cocktails and wine were excellent. The food was delicious. I had the filet and it was absolutely fantastic, I still think about it. The Mac and cheese was also a standout, very rich and true comfort food. While I could not finish my food, I left very happy and full, with a delicious lunch for the next day!Definitely 5 stars for service because I let our waiter know privately that we were celebrating a friend and they kindly brought out a decorated dessert for him.I can’t wait to return for my next special occasion.
July 01 · Chris GLast night, I had the opportunity to return to Hawksmoor in NYC after a year—my second visit. I had held off on writing a review before, not wanting to be unfair, but this time I felt compelled to share. We had a reservation for 6:30 PM, but anticipating heavy traffic, we left home early and arrived nearly an hour ahead of schedule. Thankfully, the staff accommodated us graciously and seated us before our reserved time.We began with light drinks and moved on to appetizers. My daughter ordered the steak tartare, served with toasted bread—it was delicious, well-balanced, and beautifully seasoned. My son chose the pork belly, which was flavorful but noticeably salty. Still, the minty vinegar slaw that accompanied it was exceptional and deserves mention. My wife ordered the charcoal-grilled scallops, served in half-shells with a garlic port sauce. They were tender and sweet, but unfortunately, the sauce had an overpowering wine flavor that hadn’t been properly reduced, masking the delicacy of the scallops. For the main course, my sons ordered the ribeye steaks, which were perfectly cooked, aged, and rich in enzymatic flavor. My wife had the rump steak—a thick cut, about 1.5 inches—with a crisp, delicious crust. However, the center was completely raw and the texture was tough and chewy. I ordered the veal chop, which turned out to be a T-bone cut topped with fried oysters and tartar sauce. Sadly, the dish was overly salty and the meat was also tough and difficult to enjoy. We ended the evening with a peach melba dessert, but the combination of ice creams was overwhelming and lacked harmony. The coffee, meant to close the night on a comforting note, arrived cold and overly acidic. After two visits, I must say this experience didn’t live up to the promise of the first. It’s hard to ignore the inconsistencies, especially when the evening was meant to be a celebration shared with loved ones.
