The Office of Mr. Moto Introduce
In a city filled with countless dining options, The Office of Mr. Moto in the East Village stands out as a unique and exclusive destination for Japanese cuisine. This isn't your average sushi spot; it's a meticulously crafted experience that combines a high-end omakase menu with a mysterious, speakeasy-style concept. Tucked away on the bustling St. Marks Place, this Japanese restaurant invites you on a culinary journey that is both intimate and transportive, making it a must-visit for those in New York City who appreciate a unique and elevated dining experience. The ambiance, which is described as trendy, upscale, and cozy, sets the stage for a special evening out.
The core of The Office of Mr. Moto's identity is its commitment to the art of omakase, a Japanese dining tradition where the menu is left entirely up to the chef. This approach allows the culinary team to showcase their creativity and expertise, presenting a curated selection of the freshest, most seasonal ingredients available. The food is the real highlight, with patrons consistently praising the delicious, fresh fish and the thoughtful preparation of each piece. From traditional nigiri to unique appetizers, the menu is designed to surprise and delight, offering a culinary adventure with every course.
The experience at The Office of Mr. Moto is more than just about the food. It's an immersive concept that leans into a fictional backstory and a speakeasy theme, which adds an element of fun and intrigue to the evening. While the "Mr. Moto" narrative might seem like a gimmick to some, it's a part of the commitment to a complete experience that many patrons enjoy. The attention to detail, from the decor to the service, contributes to a feeling of being a part of something special and exclusive. For those seeking a memorable and upscale dinner in the East Village, The Office of Mr. Moto offers a sanctuary where history and haute cuisine meet.
The Office of Mr. Moto is located at 120A St Marks Pl, New York, NY 10009, USA, placing it in a prime spot in the East Village, a neighborhood known for its vibrant street life and diverse food scene. While the location is on a well-known street, the restaurant’s speakeasy-style entrance can be discreet, adding to its exclusive charm. This central Manhattan location makes it highly accessible for people from all over the city.

Several subway lines are within a reasonable walking distance, including the 6 train at Astor Place and the N, R, and W trains at 8th Street-NYU. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The fish was delicious and the omakase style fantastic. If I were the proprietor I would probably lose all of the Mr Moto stuff and focus on the food and beautiful dining room. In fairness once you are in and seated that’s pretty much what they have done anyway.
September 14 · Liam MullinsHad dinner at Office of Mr. Moto last Saturday, and I have to say I enjoyed the experience. The whole speakeasy concept and backstory leans heavily into branding, but it’s a fun setup and they commit to it. That said, the real highlight was the omakase. The sushi was excellent—super fresh, delicately prepared, and seasoned just right to enhance the natural flavors of the fish. There were some unique and rare selections that stood out. And their uni roll? Absolute bomb. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that much uni packed into one roll. You’re definitely paying extra for the concept though. I agree with other reviewers who’ve said it feels overpriced compared to some of the other high-end omakase spots in the city. Still, the quality was there and I did enjoy the meal overall.
July 05 · ReedHI can’t think of a more perfect place for an anniversary dinner! The Office of Mr Moto delivered on exceptional high quality food and wonderful service. We had Kenji as our head chef and he is so talented and kind as he prepared 21 courses at the counter for us. Every piece of fish is so fresh and the presentation was so beautiful. The Japanese snapper, king salmon and tuna’s were my favorite. And the oyster starter was the best I’ve ever had. I also loved the truffle and caviar course, it melts in your mouth. I highly recommend the sake pairing - they match every dish perfectly and the apple one was incredible! You have to check out the speakeasy downstairs before you leave. It is so charming and there’s a piano that plays itself, it’s so enchanting! If you’re looking for a phenomenal and memorable omakase experience, this is the place to go.
July 08 · Jess KrishnamoorthyWe sat at the bar and went with the classic sake pairing—highly recommend. The whole experience was elevated by the incredible storytelling from both the staff and the chef, which made each course and pour feel special. The atmosphere is intimate and welcoming, and you can tell a lot of thought goes into the details.Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a memorable dining experience that’s equal parts delicious and engaging.
August 23 · Daniela TrianaIt was a surprising delight as I wanted to come here for a while knowing it is hard to book. I took the slots immediately after knowing a cancellation. The deco was such an intriguing story centering Mr. Moto’s experience. The food was superb. It had a good modern flair with extremely high quality products. The master chef was so creative and made sure the appearance and the flavor were complimented to bring the best. We had 3 kinds of tuna with toro, 2 kinds of uni, the appetizer with the fresh oyster was so fresh and eye catching. The steamed egg with sakura/seafood was beyond amazing. The wagyu beef with truffle was so delicate and it melted into your mouth. After the dinner, we got a chance to walk down to enjoy the piano bar, sorry I forgot to take a photo. It was so relaxing and tranquil. Overall amazing experience.
