Ma Young-ae Korean Sausages Introduce
The culinary landscape of Fort Lee, New Jersey, is a well-known hub for some of the most authentic and diverse Korean food outside of Korea. Amidst the countless excellent Korean barbecue spots, noodle houses, and traditional restaurants, a local gem stands out for those seeking a true specialty: Ma Young-ae Korean Sausages. This establishment has built a loyal following by focusing on one beloved, traditional Korean dish: Soondae, or Korean blood sausage. For New Jersey residents who appreciate authentic, homestyle Korean comfort food, this spot, often found nestled within a local market's food area, offers an unparalleled experience, positioning itself as the definitive destination for this unique delicacy in Bergen County.
Soondae is a traditional Korean dish made by steaming or boiling cow or pig intestines that are stuffed with various ingredients. While recipes can vary, common fillings include cellophane noodles, barley, and pig's blood, resulting in a rich, savory flavor and a distinctive, enjoyable texture. Ma Young-ae Korean Sausages has earned a reputation for mastering this craft. The fact that Korean friends enthusiastically recommend this specific spot as having "the best one in the area" speaks volumes about its authenticity and quality, suggesting an experience that goes beyond typical restaurant fare and taps into a genuinely traditional taste of home.
Choosing a specialized eatery like this in the heart of Fort Lee’s vibrant Korean community means you are directly engaging with a highly-focused culinary tradition. Unlike larger restaurants that offer extensive menus, a Soondae specialty shop dedicates its expertise to perfecting this one complex dish. This dedication is evident in the final product—a fresh, flavorful, and generously prepared Soondae. The complimentary addition of other organs, along with the mixed salt dipping sauce, enhances the traditional eating experience, offering a comprehensive taste of the dish as it is authentically served in Korea.
This establishment is a perfect example of the "locals serving locals" food scene that makes the Fort Lee and Palisades Park area of Bergen County so unique and vibrant. It's a place where you're likely to find the most knowledgeable customers, a testament to the food's high quality and authentic preparation. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1If you like soondae, then according to my Korean friend, this place has the best one in the area. It is located inside the market at the food area. You can only buy to go here. I think it is pretty good, and it is nice that they give you other organs as well. They also give you the mixed salt for dipping.
August 22 · Uyen NguyenIt was so nice to have Koreanstyle soondae again, and it tasted great! But the lady selling it was a bit intimidating😂 My foreign friend even said the same thing right after buying it
September 11 · Jisun YoonBest Sundae (Korean blood sausage) in the United States. Period. There’s one more store in Bayside NY.I go to Hannam supermarket because of this Soondae. I think current 3.6 rating is due to people are confused about this awesome place with the food court, of which I am in fond of.Their jokbal is equally great. The lady, Ma Young-ae, simply knows how to cook. I will anything/whatever she cooks.
September 13 · Richard YuThe food is great. Employee should not handle cash at the register with the same glove he uses to handle the sausage for the next guest. My appetite declined immediately.
August 10 · Vanessa LeeI think some people are confusing this place with the hannam food court? Ma Young-ae is the stall near the frozen/refrigerated food section at the back of hannam mart that sells excellent soondae (Korean blood sausages). It is pretty much the best I had in NJ, and it comes in 4 sizes at their respective prices S/M/L/XL and comes with majority of the deliciously steamed soondae, along with chopped up liver and stomach. A little plastic canister of salt At times there’s also jokbal wrapped up to buy also. Nice owner with great hot steamed goodness for takeout and straight to yo mouth.
