Okiboru House of Tan Tan Introduce

In the bustling culinary hub that is Time Out Market in Brooklyn’s DUMBO neighborhood, Okiboru House of Tan Tan stands out as a true gem for enthusiasts of Japanese cuisine. This isn't just another ramen spot; it's a destination that brings a specialized and highly-regarded style of noodle eating to the New York scene. Okiboru has earned a reputation for its commitment to quality, a tradition it established at its Los Angeles location, which received a Michelin Bib Gourmand award. The New York outpost continues this legacy, focusing on two main pillars of Japanese noodle culture: rich, flavorful ramen and the lesser-known but equally delicious tsukemen, or "dipping noodles."

Okiboru House of Tan Tan’s approach to its dishes is both playful and rooted in tradition. The Tan Tan Ramen, for example, is a testament to this philosophy. It's a Japanese adaptation of the Chinese Sichuan dish, dandanmian. Okiboru's version features a deeply savory chicken-based broth, creamy from a blend of sesame paste and chili oil. This creates a spectacular orange-red color and a depth of flavor that is both nutty and spicy. It's a lighter take on a classic, as it uses chicken instead of the traditional pork, making it satisfying and rich without feeling overly heavy. The noodles, which are made in-house daily, are a crucial component, perfectly capturing the essence of an authentic Japanese dish. This careful balance of tradition and thoughtful adaptation is what sets Okiboru apart and makes it a favorite among locals looking for genuine, high-quality Japanese comfort food.

Okiboru House of Tan Tan distinguishes itself with several key features and highlights that make it a standout choice for Japanese cuisine in New York. The most significant of these is the quality of its noodles and broth, which are at the core of its reputation. The restaurant is known for its house-made noodles, a process that ensures a superior texture and flavor. This commitment to an artisanal approach is evident in every bite. A major highlight is their specialty, tsukemen, a unique style of ramen where the noodles are served separately from the rich, concentrated broth. This allows you to dip the noodles, controlling the amount of broth and savoring the texture of the noodles themselves. This dipping style, while not as widely known in the US as traditional ramen, is a culinary revelation and a must-try for any noodle enthusiast. The Tan Tan Ramen and Tan Tan Tsukemen are signature dishes that perfectly showcase their expertise. The menu is also thoughtfully designed to appeal to a broad audience, including a delicious Vegan Tsukemen option made with a rich vegan broth and marinated tofu. The ambiance, while casual and part of a bustling market, is trendy and popular with locals, making it a great spot to feel part of the Brooklyn food scene.

  • Michelin-Rated Quality: Okiboru brings its award-winning legacy from Los Angeles to New York, guaranteeing a high-quality dining experience.
  • Handmade Noodles: The noodles are made in-house from scratch, providing an authentic and superior texture that sets them apart.
  • Specialized Tsukemen: The restaurant's focus on tsukemen, or dipping noodles, offers a unique and highly authentic Japanese dining experience.
  • Thoughtful Menu: The menu, with its blend of traditional Japanese flavors and cross-cultural elements like the Chicken Tempura Bao Bun, is both approachable and innovative.
