When visiting Panaderia y Pasterleria Totopan, the sheer diversity of the menu means there is something for every craving and every time of day. For a truly authentic experience, you should focus on the items that highlight their Guatemalan roots.
The Must-Try Baked Goods: You absolutely have to sample the Pan Dulce. Look for staples like Aviones ($1.82), or the large loaf of Frances bread ($5.20), which is widely praised by local customers. If you enjoy richer pastry, try the Apple Turnovers/1000 Hojas Manzana ($2.25) or a classic Croissant ($2.34). For special occasions, ordering a full Tres Leches cake ($46.80) is an excellent choice, as this moist, traditional milk cake is a specialty of many Latin American bakeries.
Savory and Hot Meal Options: If you are visiting for a lunch or dinner, dive into the Hot Food/Comida section. The Tamales ($4.16) and Chuchitos ($3.12) are essential Central American comfort foods, perfect for a quick and filling meal that showcases deep, traditional flavors. Pair any of these with a traditional warm beverage like Atole De Elote or Arroz En Leche from the Atoles menu for a complete, comforting experience, especially during the colder months in New York.
International Products: Don't forget to explore the Products/Productos area. This section is invaluable for those looking for imported Guatemalan staples and treats that can be hard to source locally in mainstream grocery stores. Items like Mi Guatemala Chocolate ($6.24) and Incaparina ($4.94) are fantastic cultural takeaways or ingredients for your own cooking.
While the bakery offers many conventional bakery items, the standout features are undeniably the authentic Central American specialties. By choosing the Pan Dulce, the traditional tamales, and an Atol, you can fully appreciate the unique contribution Panaderia y Pasterleria Totopan makes to Brooklyn’s diverse food landscape.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I had a terrible experience at this bakery. I saw cockroaches and mice inside, and the floor was covered with crumbs and dirt. Even worse, some of the pastries had mold on them but were still being sold. On top of that, the staff were rude and acted like they didn’t care at all. This is completely unacceptable for a place that serves food. I definitely would not recommend this bakery until they clean up and improve their service.
September 29 · Fotima KomilovaThey sell the best bread. My only complaint is that they need to teach to some of their employees how to prepare a Tea. Cause they put the Teabag Tag inside the cup and i don't like it because that tag has paint. Theres one or two of the girls working there that always does that i asked them multiple times but they don't seem to learn.
August 29 · Worthy CapVery good local cafe. My husband and I come here every weekend to eat delicious Guatemalan food. The staff is very friendly and nice. Many thanx to Marleni she is very sweet, always smiles and she makes the best cappuccino❤️
August 11 · Натали СмирноваMy fourth time coming here and the staff at the counter are NOt FRIENDLY AT ALL!!! If a customer ask for price or for something they seem miserable to answer. I want to support my fellow chapines but not first time and the one on 5th ave is the same thing! When I message on IG whoever answers my questions is fast to reply and seems so nice but the girls are just HORRIBLE!!!!!!!
