In the heart of Manhattan’s Chinatown, a new wave of culinary creativity is taking hold, and Phoenix Palace stands at the forefront of this movement. Located at 85 Bowery, this Chinese restaurant is not your typical eatery; it's a place that takes traditional flavors and reinterprets them with a modern, innovative twist. Identifying as both Asian-owned and women-owned, Phoenix Palace offers a unique and memorable dining experience that honors the roots of each dish while pushing the boundaries of what Chinese cuisine can be. The atmosphere is vibrant, and the decor is thoughtfully designed, with a captivating story behind its elements, making it a feast for both the eyes and the palate. It's a place that appeals to food lovers who are "craving innovation with soul," and its reputation for delivering an exceptional meal has quickly made it a highly sought-after destination for dinner.
The menu at Phoenix Palace is a testament to its creative approach. Every dish feels special and is crafted to deliver a unique experience. Customers rave about the culinary journey, with one reviewer calling it "one of the best meals I’ve had in recent memory." Standout dishes include the Olive Yaotiao, a familiar Chinese breakfast item given an "incredibly delicious" twist, and the Chili Crab Noodles, which were so good that a customer had to order a second portion, praising their "rich, comforting, and elevated" depth of flavor. Other highlights include the refreshing Chilled Tofu and the Baby Bok Choy Dragon Salad, which provides a perfect balance of texture and zing. For those who enjoy poultry, the Duck Breast is a must-try, with "crisp skin, tender meat, and beautifully seasoned" flavors. The menu also offers a wide array of small plates, comfort food, and exquisite cocktails, making it a perfect spot to share a meal with a group and try a bit of everything, as highly recommended by a reviewer.
Beyond the food, what truly elevates the experience at Phoenix Palace is the top-tier service. Customers have described the staff as "genuinely friendly, welcoming, and incredibly attentive without ever feeling overbearing." This high level of service ensures that every part of the dining experience, from the moment you are seated until you receive the bill, is enjoyable and seamless. The restaurant is particularly popular for dinner, and given its reputation, accepting reservations is a thoughtful feature that helps guests plan their evening without the worry of a long wait. While the menu is a haven for those who love meat and seafood, it is worth noting that it is not an ideal destination for vegetarians, though pescatarians will find plenty of excellent options. The thoughtful touches, like the nostalgic gummies that accompany the bill, add a final note of charm and end the night on a high note. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1One of the best meals I’ve had in recent memory. Phoenix Palace in Manhattan’s Chinatown delivered one of the most memorable dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. This isn’t your typical Chinese restaurant — it’s a modern, creative twist on tradition that still honors the roots of each dish.Every course had something special. To start, the olive yaotiao is a must—incredibly delicious and familiar twist on Chinese breakfast. The crab noodles were rich, comforting, and elevated with incredible depth of flavor—it was my personal favorite dish. The chilled tofu was light and refreshing, and the dragon salad had the perfect balance of texture and zing. The duck was a huge hit at our table — crisp skin, tender meat, beautifully seasoned. I also loved the mussels, which were so tender and fresh. To end the night, the mango pudding with pomelo topping was the perfect dessert — refreshing, creamy, and just the right amount of sweetness. I also loved the gummies that came with the bill, which was super nostalgic of candies my family used to give me.The service was top-tier — genuinely friendly, welcoming, and incredibly attentive without ever feeling overbearing. It made the whole experience even more enjoyable. One note: it’s not ideal for vegetarians, as many dishes include meat or seafood, but pescatarians will find plenty of great options to enjoy. If you’re looking to be truly impressed and want a culinary experience that steps off the beaten path of traditional Chinese fare, Phoenix Palace is a must. Highly recommend for food lovers craving innovation with soul. Bring a group and try everything!
July 31 · Allison L.Was excited to try this place being a huge fan of potluck club. Potluck club is still my favorite, but they have some great dishes here. The crab noodles were so good we had to order two portions. Love the decor here and the story behind the decorations. Can’t wait to go back again.
May 31 · the bbI cannot recommend this establishment enough! I was visiting for one day from out of town and I made a reservation with a special request indicating that I had a flight that evening and needed to leave in a timely manner. I arrived outside of Phoenix Palace 15 minutes prior to opening and the wonderful, Frederica (I hope I spelled her name correctly 🤞🏻), spotted me, let me in early, and had my order placed lightning fast! While I came for the cuisine, I was, ultimately, provided with the best service of my life. Every single person working there was genuine, warm, and beyond welcoming. I traveled alone, but each individual checked on me and chatted with me throughout my meal, which made me feel like I was dining with friends. The decor and ambiance are perfect for a special night out and the food was delicious! I went for the chili crab noodles and they did not disappoint! To top it all off, the staff double-wrapped my leftovers and packaged them perfectly so that I could travel home with them. Thank you again to the exceptional staff at Phoenix Palace!
June 14 · Katie SumnerExcellent chicks and very moist with flavor.Peas were good and smothered in sauce.Scallop was tasty albeit extremely small.Calamari was OK as it was good sized but wasn’t crunchy.Extremely clean venue with fun staff who converse with you. Really enjoyed the meal here and the chicken.
May 03 · Albert KAbsolutely delicious!! Every dish was a treat but the crab noodles was the winner for me. Also couldn’t stop eating the cuttlefish. The atmosphere was amazing as well as the service. Looking forward to trying more dishes here.
