Pier 84 Chip Shop Introduce
Nestled on the bustling waterfront of New York City, Pier 84 Chip Shop is a casual bar and eatery that provides a relaxed and straightforward spot for a quick drink and a bite to eat. Located near the scenic Hudson River, it offers a simple, no-frills experience that is perfect for those looking for a laid-back atmosphere away from the more high-energy scenes of Midtown. While the name suggests a focus on classic fish and chips, the establishment functions as a bar that serves a variety of food, beer, and wine.
Pier 84 Chip Shop is an ideal stop for solo diners or anyone looking for a casual place to grab a meal. The ambiance is relaxed and the focus is on providing a simple, satisfying experience. It's a place where you can quickly pop in before heading to a nearby cruise or tour, or simply unwind with a cold beverage and a small plate of comfort food. The establishment's offerings are clear and to the point, catering to those who appreciate a direct approach without the complexities of a large, fine-dining menu.
However, it's important for potential patrons to set expectations regarding service. Some customer reviews have noted slow service times, particularly with food orders, even when the venue appears to be empty. This seems to be a recurring theme, with patrons mentioning long waits for simple orders like fries and mozzarella sticks. While the food is generally described as good, hot, and tasty, the waiting time has been a significant point of concern. This is something to keep in mind, especially if you are on a tight schedule, for example, before a tour or show in the area.
Pier 84 Chip Shop is located at 44 12th Ave, New York, NY 10019, placing it in the heart of Hell's Kitchen on the far west side of Manhattan. Its location is a major factor, as it is situated right on the water, making it an excellent stop for those visiting the nearby Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum or the Circle Line cruises. The views of the Hudson River from this part of the city can be quite stunning, offering a serene backdrop to a casual meal.
Getting to the location can be done through various modes of transportation. For those using the subway, the A, C, and E lines to 42nd St–Port Authority are within walking distance, making it accessible from many parts of the city. As with many waterfront locations in New York, street parking can be challenging, but its proximity to major attractions means it's a popular walking destination. For individuals with mobility needs, the establishment features a wheelchair-accessible entrance, ensuring that all patrons can visit with ease. The bar’s address on 12th Avenue makes it a convenient and strategic spot for a pre-tour or post-tour stop.

What is worth choosing about Pier 84 Chip Shop is its prime location and straightforward, casual appeal. Its spot on 12th Avenue is a major benefit for anyone visiting the surrounding attractions, such as the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum or the Circle Line cruises. If you are looking for a simple, pre-tour or post-tour spot to grab a cold beer and some basic bar food, this place fits the bill. It is a good option for a quick, informal bite, especially if you are traveling alone and want a hassle-free meal.
However, it is crucial to manage expectations, especially regarding service speed. While the food is generally well-regarded—hot and tasty—the reported long wait times, even when the place is not crowded, are a significant drawback. A customer review highlighted a 45-minute wait for fries and mozzarella sticks, which is a considerable amount of time. It's a place that is best suited for those who are not in a hurry and can be patient with their order. The casual atmosphere and focus on simple offerings make it a decent choice for a relaxing break, but it might not be the best option if you have a tight schedule.
In conclusion, Pier 84 Chip Shop is a functional and accessible bar with a solid location. It provides a simple, casual setting and a basic menu of food and drinks. It’s a viable option for a laid-back stop near the Hudson River, provided you are prepared for potential delays in food service. For a New Yorker or tourist who prioritizes a great location and a no-fuss environment over speedy service, this spot could still be a good fit.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I came in here and the place was absolutely empty. I placed my order with the woman behind the counter and sat down, I was not charged for my order as of yet. The woman behind the desk did not give my order to the cook in the back and I was waiting for 30 minutes. A couple came in about 10 minutes after me and inquired about the status of their order. The woman was rude and mentioned that the order would be out “in a few minutes”, this was mentioned multiple times. My order as well as the couple’s order came out together and because of preexisting engagements I was left with 8 minutes to eat before having to attend a tour at the Intrepid. I arrived with more than enough time to order, receive the food, and eat. The order was chicken tenders and fries which does not take long to cook. This experience was bad enough that I decided I will not be returning here and I can only imagine the wait that they would have for the food if it was busy.
June 27 · Jasmine Vazquez TavaresPopped in for a quick bite to eat before going on one of the circle line cruises as it was the next pier. Ordered fries and mozzarella sticks to share with my other half. Food was good, hot and tasty but it took 45 minutes to be delivered to us. Wouldn’t say it was busy to warrant that amount of time. When asked the girl at bar, she deflected that it’s the kitchen staff, sorry but she’s the front of house and could have taken the 60 seconds to enquire.Could be an amazing place as it’s in a great location for the cruises but the slow service is it let down.
June 03 · Heather BUnfortunately, the staff member was rude we asked for an ice cream and was blanked so waited, more fool me, she than ask what you want? We asked for an ice cream, she laughed while saying we have probably got this and that maybe but almost none of what is on the poster, so ask for an beer, sangria, two coke zero and two bags of crisps (fries) for her to only miss the cokes off the order. The whole premises were just dirty, tables hadn't been cleaned, it was just not good.Sorry no photo, not worth the hassle to argue why I was taking photos.
May 27 · Andrew KellyWorst experience ever, everything was going well until we ordered food, It took them an hour to prepare some chicken nuggets with fries and a chicken sandwich. We were enjoying a nice afternoon, we just wanted to eat something to continue enjoying ourselves. If you don't mind waiting even for a canned beer, visit it, I only recommend it to use the bathroom that is next door, clean and well equipped
May 27 · Liam Rojas8 dollars for a small hot dog you can buy everywhere with 4 dollars. With these prices they are doomed to close.
