The quality of the cheese, the balanced tang and sweetness of the sauce, and the perfect dough-to-topping ratio are frequently lauded by devoted customers. The menu, focused on what they do best, offers a concise and powerful lineup of options that deliver pure **Comfort Food** in every bite, making it an ideal choice for **Lunch** or **Dinner**.

Choosing what to order at a legendary slice shop like Sal and Carmine can be daunting, but the consensus among decades of New York pizza aficionados points to a few essential items.
**The Essential First Bite: The Cheese Pizza Slice**
There is no better way to understand the legacy of this establishment than by starting with the plain **Cheese Pizza Slice** ($4.00). This is the item that has built the restaurant's reputation and is consistently described by locals as the gold standard of New York pizza. It perfectly showcases the balance of the superb dough, the creamy cheese blend (which they famously grind in-house), and the right amount of tangy sauce. It is, simply put, a piece of New York City history you can eat.
**The Savory Upgrade: Pepperoni or Sausage Slice**
For those who crave more than the classic, the **Pepperoni Pizza Slice** or **Sausage Pizza Slice** (both $5.00) are excellent, high-impact options. The traditional pepperoni slice, often praised for its fresh, flavorful meat, offers a classic, deeply savory experience that enhances the inherent excellence of the base pie.
**The Full Pie Experience: Upsidedown Margherita Pizza**
When ordering a whole pie for **Dinner** or a group, consider the **Upsidedown Margherita Pizza** ($35.00). This unique interpretation features the cheese on the bottom and dollops of spicy, flavorful sauce on top, finished with a generous sprinkle of Parmigiano cheese and fresh basil. It’s a testament to the kitchen’s quality and is a must-try for pizza purists looking for a slight twist on tradition.
**The Economical Pairing: Any Slice and a Drink**
For the budget-conscious **College Students** and those seeking a quick, excellent deal, the combination of any slice with one of the incredibly priced **$1.00 Beverages** (including **Canned Iced Tea** or **Seltzer Water**) is unbeatable. It is a highly satisfying, authentic New York meal that won't break the bank, solidifying Sal and Carmine Pizza’s position as a cherished, accessible, and truly legendary UWS pizza destination.

Sal and Carmine Pizza Reviews

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Honestly, I was a bit disappointed when I came here. I had looked at this place online to find a nice spot to eat with a friend to celebrate something. I had seen a lot of high rated reviews, many saying how this was “a rather iconic place in the upper west side,” and had high expectations for this place, but didn’t have the best experience. The place felt rather small and crammed, with only a few places to sit. Besides that, the food didn’t look the most appetizing. It was alright, but I had expected better. I’d probably look somewhere else for good pizza.
July 25 · Sarai ASal and Carmine Pizza has the best pizza I have ever had. The aunts were fighting over the crust and they don’t even like crust! Even my grandma who has a very strict diet made an exception for this sublime pizza. Sal and Carmine is celebrating its 68th anniversary! If you like pizza, even if you have dietary restrictions, TRUST ME, you will love 🤩this pizza! Would HIGHLY recommend!
August 30 · F HTried the Margherita - the dough was really good, but the sauce tasted like plain tomato paste, too strong and unbalanced. A bit disappointing overall.
August 26 · Shachar AshkenaziSal and Carmine’s on the Upper West Side is a true gem for pizza lovers! I ordered a pepperoni and sausage pizza, and it was absolutely delicious. The pizza was generously topped with a rich, flavorful sauce that perfectly complemented the savory toppings. The crust had just the right amount of crispiness—light and airy but still with that satisfying crunch. What makes this place even better are the fair prices, especially for the PIZZA SIZE you’re getting. If you’re in the neighborhood and craving an authentic New York slice, Sal and Carmine’s is definitely worth a visit! Also! The place boasts a huge interior space and a lot of seating too!
October 21 · Arthur TrusovSal & Carmine Pizza always hits the spot! To me, their pizza is underrated (which I don't mind because that means fewer people haha). Compared to all of the pizzerias in the neighborhood that sell *street pizza* they have the best. The sauce is a perfect balance of sweetness with savory. You can tell that they use fresh mozzarella. The crust is not too thick and not too thin either. If you want that crunch, ask them to heat your slice for a bit longer than usual. My bf and I always stop by to chat with the pizza maker and cashier. Both are great guys. We've never had a bad experience or a bad slice/pie. If you're in the neighborhood, definitely stop by to get a slice. You won't regret it. P.S. They're selling icees for a dollar (2 big scoops) you can't beat that deal, especially with this heat.
