What is worth choosing
Choosing what to order at Trelawni Place can be the hardest part, given the sheer depth and appeal of the menu. When you visit this beloved Brooklyn Caribbean seafood bar and grill, several items stand out as particularly worth choosing, whether you are a local regular or a first-time visitor from elsewhere in NYC. For the seafood enthusiast, the fresh catches and creative preparations are unmissable. The Escovitch Lobster or the impressive Steamed Lobster Platter featuring shrimp and crab legs are perfect for a celebratory or indulgent meal. If you’re looking for a great value and a seafood feast, the Trelawni Crab Pot, a pound of jumbo snow crab legs with steamed potatoes and corn on the cob, is a highly recommended choice.
Those who appreciate the fiery flavor of the Caribbean should try the appetizers like the unique Hennessy Shrimp, which offers a sweet chili Hennessy sauce, or the classic Conch Fritters served with mango chutney. These small plates are fantastic with a cocktail during happy hour or as a shared starter. For a lighter but equally flavorful seafood dish, the Cajun Salmon is a staple, served with creamy sweet potato and sautéed spinach, while the Coconut Curry Shrimp delivers a rich, tropical experience over jasmine rice.
Beyond the seafood, Trelawni Place is celebrated for its mastery of traditional Caribbean fare. The Braised Oxtail, served with rice and peas, sautéed carrots, and crisp green beans, is a hearty, deeply savory dish that draws in a loyal following. It's often cited as one of the best authentic dishes available. Another great comfort food choice is the Trelawni's Specialty Chicken served with classic rice and peas, braised cabbage, and fried plantains. For a land-based dish with a sophisticated flair, consider the 8 Spiced Rubbed Lamb Rack or the classic NY Sirloin steak.
The diversity of the menu also means there are excellent choices for specific preferences. Health-conscious New Yorkers will appreciate the options like the Grilled Salmon Nicoise Salad or the Tofu and Vegetable Stir Fry. For a delightful end to your meal, the Guinness Cheesecake offers a unique, rich flavor profile, a perfect capstone to your Caribbean culinary journey. In short, Trelawni Place’s worth lies in its ability to offer high-quality, authentic Caribbean cuisine, exceptional seafood, and a lively bar atmosphere that makes it a true dining destination in Brooklyn.
