Got charged more than I should have for using credit card. The platter was supposed to be $16.99 with tax, but it came out to nearly $20. I was told it was due to tax, but if you do the calculation, it was still more than what it should have been. Also, the platter wasn't a platter. It was some beef and lamb, some fries, and other toppings. Meat was dry and there wasn't much taste. This should have been maybe around $10-$12 for the amount.I would suggest to go to Instanbul on 86th street or someplace else. Also would highly suggest going to a place that doesn't overcharge.Although if you're looking for atmosphere, great place to hang out or chill at. The decor is great.Edit: the owner is responding to comments calling him/her out for overcharging in a defensive way. Would highly suggest avoiding this place - Jared

What is Worth Choosing

When visiting UZ Doner, many New York locals gravitate toward the dishes that represent the restaurant's core specialties and unique blend of culinary traditions. The decision of what to choose often comes down to a choice between the signature meat wraps, the more substantial platters, or the distinct Central Asian baked goods.

For first-time visitors or those seeking a classic experience, the Lamb & Beef Shawarma or Lamb&beef wrap is a highly recommended starting point. These dishes, featuring tender, seasoned strips of meat, are core to the Doner and Shawarma concept and are listed among the most ordered items. Similarly, the Chicken Shawarma and Chicken wrap offer a lighter, yet equally flavorful, alternative. These items are perfect for a satisfying, quick meal on the go.

If you are looking for a more complete and sit-down dining experience, the Lamb & Beef Platter or Chicken Platter are excellent choices. These platters offer a generous portion of the grilled meat, typically served alongside crispy fries, fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, and shredded lettuce, providing a balanced and filling meal. While some customer feedback suggests the platters may be more simple than expected, they still serve as a substantial option for a complete plate.

A uniquely featured item that is worth trying is the Super Hot Dog. Although seemingly unconventional for a Central Asian/Mediterranean spot, this item incorporates elements like Korean carrot and is served in Uzbek bread, showcasing the creative fusion that defines this establishment. It’s an ideal choice for the adventurous eater looking for something different.

Finally, to experience the full flavor profile of the region, we highly recommend sampling the traditional Uzbek pastries. The Samsa, flaky pastries filled with spiced meat, and the Gumma, stuffed with chicken heart, offer a delicious glimpse into authentic baked goods. For a sweet ending, the Small Trayfel dessert provides a creamy chocolate treat topped with crushed raspberries. These dishes help UZ Doner stand apart from other local Halal and Mediterranean offerings by bringing a specific, authentic Central Asian touch to the New York City dining scene.
