What is Worth Choosing
When visiting Allan's Bakery, there are several items that stand out as must-try options, representing the best of their traditional Caribbean offerings. The undisputed champion is the Currant Roll (Vegan). This flaky, puff pastry dough rolled with currants, sugar, and spices has been made using the same recipe for over 60 years and is highly recommended by the family and customers alike. It’s a top-tier sweet roll and their most popular single item overall, a testament to its consistent quality and authentic flavor.
Another staple that draws crowds is the Hardo Bread (Hard Dough Bread). This bread is a distinct Jamaican favorite, known for its dense yet soft consistency and hint of sweetness. It’s perfect for making sturdy sandwiches, soaking up gravy, or simply toasting with butter. Its unique texture holds up well to hearty fillings, a characteristic that separates it from standard white bread. It is truly an essential choice for anyone looking for an authentic Caribbean bread experience.
For a savory option, the Beef Patty is a classic that is frequently cited as a top-selling item. The well-seasoned, savory filling encased in a flaky, yellow crust makes it a perfect grab-and-go meal or snack. If you prefer fish, the Fried Bake & Codfish Sandwich offers a taste of traditional Caribbean breakfast or lunch, featuring a fried bake—a small, slightly sweet, unleavened fried dough—paired with perfectly seasoned saltfish.
Finally, for a celebratory treat, the Black/Fruit Cake is an absolute highlight, especially during the holidays. This rich, dark cake is prepared in the traditional Caribbean style with premium quality fruits, currants, and raisins, lightly soaked in rum, making it an essential purchase for any major family event. The quality and authenticity of the ingredients used across all their menu items, from the vegan apple turnover to the whole wheat hardo bread and the coconut rolls, ensure a memorable and authentic taste of the Caribbean right here in New York City.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Currant roll lived up to the hype! The carrot cake cheesecake was unexpectedly great too, the crust layer is super good and similar to the top of an italian crumb cake
September 01 · Lauren MI bought the hard dough bread for the first time at Allan's bakery. It's the worst I've ever had. The bread tasted SALTY and only Raw Dough. I literally had a headache after eating it. I would never recommend this bread. I'm so disappointed 😞
June 15 · Trevornique CampbellOrdered a red velvet for a birthday and didn’t receive that. Received a plain cake. That was so upsetting and disappointing. It was decorated nice, but not what I ordered.
April 14 · Kizuwanda VialvaGreat experience! Line was long but went by quickly (probably a 7 minute wait until I was serviced). The staff was super friendly and gave me a choice between a beef patty or a salt fish and bake. I chose the salt fish and bake which was delicious! Definitely a great quick meal for breakfast or lunch when on the run.The currant roll was great, I love all things raisins in deserts. I love that they raisins were highlighted without taking away from the flaky sweetness of the pastry. The coconut roll was great. Definitely great for anyone who loves coconut.
June 22 · Monique smithThe short dark skin skinny female worker was extremely rude and disrespectful. I asked her for a bag of 4 coconut drops. She said their was no more but found a bag with 4 .I asked her how much and she was guessing the price and try to charge me for the price of6. I told her to ask her boss how muchSo she got a attitude and threw the bad aside. I still wanted to to know the price but she refused to inquire. So she gave the bag away few minutes later without asking if I still want it or not. So I left and went to another bakery where i was well served.
