Custom Burgers Introduce
Custom Burgers, located within the bustling concourse of Newark Liberty International Airport’s (EWR) Terminal C, aims to deliver a superior, fast-casual American dining experience built around the simple, satisfying pleasure of a quality hamburger. Classified as a traditional **Hamburger restaurant** and **Fast food restaurant**, its core promise is a quick, personalized meal for travelers on the go. The restaurant’s major factual distinction and promotional highlight is its collaboration with the esteemed New York butcher, Pat LaFrieda, ensuring that the beef used in its patties is of a demonstrably high caliber, often using a custom meat blend designed for rich flavor.
The menu focuses on customizable, high-demand items that travelers crave. This includes a range of beef burgers, from the signature **Custom Burger** ($16.99) to the indulgent **Bacon Double Cheeseburger** ($22.99). Recognizing modern dietary trends, the menu also features plant-based options like the **Custom Impossiblet Burger** ($19.99). Beyond the burgers, the selection expands to classic American comfort food, including **Hot Dogs**—such as the **Chicago Dog** ($12.99)—as well as perennial favorites like **Wings** and **Chicken Tenders** ($12.99 each). A selection of thick, satisfying **Shakes** (Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, Cookies & Cream, and Banana, Chocolate & Peanut Butter) rounds out the indulgent offerings.
While the goal is to provide **Fast service** and **Quick bite** options, offering much-needed **Comfort food** to weary **Tourists**, local New Jersey users must be aware of the factual gap between the restaurant's intended service model and its customer reviews. Patrons frequently highlight the attractive smell of the fresh grill and the quality of the raw ingredients (Pat LaFrieda meat) but cite significant operational issues. These include incredibly long wait times, with some customers reporting delays up to 45 minutes to an hour, contradicting the 'Fast service' highlight. Furthermore, reviews consistently mention problems with food quality upon arrival, such as **icy cold buns, cold/chewy bacon, and bland, unsalted meat and fries**, suggesting inconsistent execution despite the premium ingredients.
Ordering is typically facilitated through a technology-based system, often via a computer or kiosk, intended to speed up the process. However, customer feedback points to a lack of staff motivation and poor customer service, including difficulty in obtaining basic condiments like ketchup or salt, and general disorganization. This context is essential for New Jersey travelers planning to visit, who should factor in potential delays and service inconsistencies, especially during peak travel times.
Custom Burgers is a key dining amenity located within the secure, post-security area of Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). The official address is **Terminal C, 42 Newark International Airport St, Newark, NJ 07114**. As it is situated past the security checkpoint, access is strictly limited to ticketed passengers utilizing Terminal C, the primary hub for United Airlines flights at EWR.
Its strategic location makes it highly convenient for travelers needing a meal before boarding, especially those looking for a non-sit-down, quick meal. The restaurant caters specifically to travelers, with the crowd being primarily **Tourists**. Despite the busy setting, the restaurant meets necessary access standards:
- **Wheelchair accessible entrance:** Ensures that the dining area is accessible to all patrons, a critical feature in a major public transportation facility.
The operation is designed to accommodate the typical traveler’s schedule, serving both **Lunch** and **Dinner**, and is also noted as being **Good for kids**, offering familiar, universally appealing fare that appeals to families on the move. The focus on a **Casual** atmosphere ensures a relaxed environment before a potentially stressful flight.
Custom Burgers offers a streamlined set of services tailored for the airport traveler:
- **Dine-in:** Provides a casual seating area where customers can enjoy their meals, often while utilizing the airport’s connectivity for work or entertainment.
- **Takeout:** The primary service mode for most airport patrons, enabling quick collection of food to be consumed at the gate or on the plane.
- **Combo Meals:** Features specific **Burger + Sandwich Combos** to offer a complete meal (burger/sandwich and fries) at a bundled price, such as the **Classic Burger Combo** ($14.99) and the **Bacon Double Cheeseburger Combo** ($20.99), simplifying the ordering process for those in a hurry.
- **Modern Payments:** Supports modern transaction methods, accepting **Credit cards** and **Debit cards**, which is vital for the swift processing of payments demanded by the fast-paced airport environment.
While the service is *intended* to be fast, customers should be aware of the factual reports of lengthy wait times. However, the ordering process is simplified via computers, reducing the need for direct server interaction and standardizing the transaction, even if the execution often falls short of the 'Fast service' highlight.
The features of Custom Burgers are centered on its quality promise and convenience:
- **Pat LaFrieda Meat Quality:** The most significant feature is the use of high-quality, custom meat blends from renowned butcher Pat LaFrieda, a selling point that elevates the product above standard fast-food burgers.
- **Customization and Variety:** The menu supports personalized orders with the original **Custom Burger** option and offers variety, including specialty items like the **Avocado Burger** ($21.99) and the plant-based **Custom Impossiblet Burger** ($19.99).
- **All-American Comfort Classics:** Offers a full range of American classics beyond beef, including **Chicken Tenders**, **Wings**, and various specialty **Hot Dogs** (Classic, Chicago, Chili Cheese).
- **Indulgent Shakes:** Features a menu of five different flavor milkshakes, providing a premium dessert or beverage option that adds value to the fast-casual experience.
- **Convenient Dining Times:** Available for both **Lunch** and **Dinner**, catering to the majority of airport traffic, and is a strong option for **Solo dining**.
Despite these quality features, the major highlight of **Fast service** is factually disputed by customer experiences, who often wait upwards of 30 minutes for their food, and also report that the end product frequently suffers from lack of seasoning and poor preparation, such as cold buns and ingredients. Therefore, the true highlight for New Jersey patrons remains the potential for a quality Pat LaFrieda burger in an otherwise limited, captive dining environment.
As a crucial food service provider within Newark Liberty International Airport, Custom Burgers can be contacted via the following details:
- **Address:** Terminal C, 42 Newark International Airport St, Newark, NJ 07114
- **Phone:** (866) 508-3558
- **Mobile Phone:** +1 866-508-3558
The phone number is a centralized contact point for the terminal's dining establishments. Since ordering is primarily done via on-site terminals, the most direct interaction for customers is at the physical location. Its operating schedule covers peak travel times, making it a reliable, though potentially slow, dining option for **Lunch** and **Dinner** within the secure zone of Terminal C. The acceptance of **Credit cards** and **Debit cards** provides quick checkout for travelers.
Custom Burgers is worth choosing for New Jersey residents and travelers primarily for the factual assurance of high-quality beef, thanks to its collaboration with **Pat LaFrieda**. It is the go-to choice in Terminal C when the craving for a fresh, made-to-order, customizable burger, hot dog, or comforting sides like **Cheese Fries** is paramount. Its wide array of combo options and indulgent **Shakes** makes it an excellent choice for a complete, indulgent meal before a flight. However, what is worth choosing is tempered by practicality: patrons should choose Custom Burgers only when they have ample time, as factual customer reviews overwhelmingly indicate significant delays (up to an hour) and an inconsistent final product. The choice here is a calculated risk: a potentially high-quality Pat LaFrieda burger in exchange for the strong possibility of a lengthy wait time and service issues in the airport's demanding environment. It remains one of the most prominent **Hamburger restaurant** options in the terminal for those seeking **American restaurant** comfort food.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1If this place wasn’t located at the airport — where people are rushed, hungry, and don’t have time to search for better food ⏰✈️ — I doubt it would last even 2 hours.Ordering is done through a computer 💻, the staff behind the counter grills the meat fresh, and the smell around the area is actually wonderful 😍🔥. The grill itself seems decent. But the lady working on it didn’t look very motivated at all 😕. Maybe she was just having a bad day… Still, when I asked for mayonnaise, the answer was cold and uninterested ❄️. I didn’t get mayo, salt, or ketchup. When the food finally arrived, it didn’t look too bad 👀🍔. But… the bun was icy cold 🥶, the bacon was chewy and served cold 🥓, and the meat had no salt or seasoning whatsoever — same with the cheese 🧀, completely tasteless. The fries were bland, cold, and unsalted 🍟😞. The onion rings were the only thing somewhat edible, until I bit into one that had half a raw onion head battered inside 🧅😬.This was honestly the worst burger I’ve ever had in my life, and the first one I couldn’t even finish 🚫🍔.Such a shame, because this spot has so much potential. With just a few small changes, it could be turned into something so much better ✨🙌.
August 23 · vedran mikulekOrdered for the chicken sandwitch and cheese fries at Newark airport on 07/04/2025 and was kept waiting for more that 45 min for the order name to be announced. Talk to the lady present outside the restaurant who was of no help or guidance for the delayFinally had to chk with the kitchen guy about the order who then brought the same. Almost took an hour. So kindly just avoid going to this restaurant at the airport. There are other good eating places so prefer those
July 04 · Neeraj SoodThe Oreo milkshake was good, but disappointed in the avocado burger I received. I ordered this burger expecting to get “custom sauce”, and I received the burger without the sauce because they ran out but I wasn’t informed of this until after I received my burger and asked where the sauce was on my burger. I would have got the regular burger if I would have known they ran out of the custom sauce, and saved some money doing it. The lady behind the grill was really nice and working the grill by herself all while trying to assist people at the kiosk even though they had a person there that was supposed to help customers with their orders. The burgers need some season because it was pretty plain.
June 14 · Dest ChesleyThe burgers here are actually very good. But expect to wait long and to pay a LOT, as they are expensive, even considering the restaurant is at an airport. If you have the time and don't mind the price, the burgers are pretty good.
September 18 · Tom MoloughneyYou have to lower your expectations when dining in an airport - the restaurants are often all owned by one company and they have a captive audience.Custom Burgers is just meh. I dislike they force you to use dirty, fingerprint covered kiosks to place your order. They're disgusting. The staff do not care about customers at all. They move slowly behind the counter and glare at anyone who dares ask a question. There is no hurry here. The food is meh - frozen burgers cooked to death and served on low quality, mushy buns with fries that are neither good nor bad.I'm guessing it's really hard to find people who want to work at an airport burger joint - having to get to Newark, go through security, only to dish out bad food to harried passengers is not a fun career.
