What is Worth Choosing
When navigating the extensive and tempting menu at De Islands, certain dishes stand out as local favorites that are absolutely worth choosing for both first-time visitors and regulars. The restaurant excels at the cornerstone dishes of Caribbean cuisine, executed with a level of flavor and authenticity that keeps customers coming back.
The Jerk Chicken is a must-try. Available in options like a Leg Quarter served with Seasoned Fries and a drink, or as part of a meal that includes Rice and Festival, the Jerk Chicken is consistently praised for its amazing texture and perfect blend of flavors with a satisfying kick of heat. It is a highly-ranked item for a reason, embodying the authentic taste of the islands.
Another top recommendation, and a true standout according to patrons, is the Curry Shrimp with Roti. This dish has been described as having a unique quality unmatched elsewhere, making it a signature item that captures the rich, savory depth of Caribbean curries. Similarly, the Curry Goat, available as a standalone dish or paired with Rice or Roti, is a favorite for those seeking tender, flavorful stewed meats. A smaller portion of Curry Goat with rice is available at a very reasonable price point, allowing for an affordable indulgence in one of the menu's most iconic flavors.
For those who appreciate classic Caribbean comfort, the Oxtail is non-negotiable. Whether you choose a simple serving with rice or the full platter with Roti, Oxtail at De Islands is a tender, slow-simmered perfection, embodying the essence of Caribbean Sunday dinner. Other excellent choices from the main menu include Curry or Stew Chicken and Jerk or Escovich Fish, catering to those who prefer poultry or seafood options prepared in authentic island styles.
Beyond the main courses, don't overlook the side items, which are essential to the full island experience. The Cassava Fries are noted as a delicious treat that adds a unique texture to the meal, offering a more exotic alternative to traditional fries. The Ripe Plaintain is another popular side for its sweet contrast to the savory main dishes. And to complete the experience, be sure to grab an authentic Caribbean beverage like Ting or Mauby to wash it all down. While the prices for some complete meals trend toward the higher end, the quality, generous portions, and authentic taste represent true value for the New York food scene, ensuring a memorable and satisfying experience that is well worth the investment.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1A great variety of Caribbean dishes and drinks, although I was a bit disappointed that there were no desserts (I was hoping for rum cake). I was not expecting for the food to be separated into Tupperware-style bowls, fortunately the AirBnB provided the kitchenware we needed. The food was exceptionally good, and the cassava fries were a delicious treat. The food was a bit pricey, but I would certainly recommend this restaurant.
March 14 · Leonard JohnsonDe Island’s is a nice lil spot only available in BK & Queens. The Queens location is my favorite but I was in the area and caught them right before closing time.My favorite dish from here will always be the curry shrimp with roti …. I love its uniqueness, I’ve had nothing like it else where so they got me for life. The escovitch fish with festival is always a great snack ( yes I said snack 😂) … and the jerk chicken is amazing. I love the texture, the flavors with a small kick of heat( make sure to ask for sauce but I like mine plain)
June 17 · F PThe jerk chicken here is amazing with the spicy BBQ jerk sauce. The sauce is nice all in one combo. They have unique flavor rice like pumpkin rice. Definitely worth take out and catering orders from de Island
July 13 · Lesley C (LCole718)I was disappointed the day after I placed my order. Yesterday, I ordered a pan of jerk chicken that would be picked up today for an event my work is planning. I specifically told the cashier I’d need this food tomorrow. Today, when my niece arrived to pick up the food for me the lady told her I said the 23rd of August instead of today. When confronting her she kept denying, contradicting my complaint. It was a terrible inconvenience with customer service. Instead of arguing I simply ask for a refund. Besides that point, I usually order here on occasion, I just wish to see some improvement with customer service.
August 15 · Marline Francis-allaharFish was amazing!!!!!! Festival amazing! Staple food. Thank you!!Expect them to take forever and for there to be some loud speaking but to be expected! Everyone was overall kind and accommodating.
