Chinese restaurant ★4.0 (112)·$10–20

4.0
A simple noodle dish with great hand-pulled noodles! The noodles were chewy and super long, and the broth wasn’t spicy even at the 🌶️🌶️ spice level, so you’ll be fine even if your spice tolerance is low. I personally prefer the bowl here over more highly rated noodle shops in the area, because the noodles definitely taste hand-pulled. It’s also only $13 per bowl and the portion size is very decent. (You can also add extra meat for $5, but I’m not sure there was that much more meat compared to my regular bowl, which had an adequate amount.) Service was all I wanted from a casual eatery; I imagine you’d be able to get more across if you speak Chinese, but communicating in English was fine and we got our food pretty quickly. Not sure why the rating is low here, but if they made improvements since, it definitely works now. - L.

What is Worth Choosing

Choosing Dun Huang is an excellent decision for anyone in Long Island City or the surrounding areas looking for an authentic and satisfying meal. The primary reason to choose this restaurant is the unparalleled quality of its hand-pulled noodles. Unlike many places that use pre-made noodles, Dun Huang’s commitment to this traditional craft results in a superior product that is both chewy and flavorful. The ability to choose your noodle thickness from a variety of options—thin, regular, thick, wide, and extra wide—allows for a truly customized dining experience, ensuring your meal is exactly how you like it. This level of dedication to a core menu item is a testament to their passion for providing an authentic and high-quality culinary experience.

Beyond the noodles, the value and portion sizes at Dun Huang are exceptional. In a city where dining out can be expensive, getting a large, filling, and delicious meal for a very reasonable price is a significant advantage. The customer reviews often highlight how a single order is enough for one and a half meals, making it not only a tasty choice but also an economical one. This makes Dun Huang a great option for students, professionals, and families who want great food without a hefty price tag.

The diverse menu also makes Dun Huang a worthwhile choice. While the hand-pulled noodles are the star, the menu features a wide array of other traditional Chinese dishes. From hot and cold appetizers like the spicy chicken wings and marinated cucumber to hearty main courses like the Monstrous Plate Chicken and Braised Lamb Shoulder, there's a dish for every craving. The availability of skewers, side dishes like Egg Fried Rice, and classic desserts means you can create a full, multi-course meal that explores different facets of Chinese cuisine. The menu's variety ensures that whether you're a first-timer or a regular, there's always something new and delicious to try.

Finally, the combination of excellent food with fast and efficient service makes Dun Huang an incredibly reliable dining option. The restaurant is well-suited for a quick lunch break, a relaxed dinner, or a convenient takeout order. The staff is prompt and friendly, ensuring a smooth and pleasant experience from the moment you walk in. The casual, comfortable atmosphere, along with amenities like Wi-Fi and clean restrooms, adds to the overall positive experience.
