Giano Introduce
In a city saturated with dining options, finding an Italian restaurant that truly captures the soul and flavor of Italy can be a rare and delightful discovery. Tucked away on a vibrant street in the East Village, Giano is just such a place. It's more than a restaurant; it’s an authentic Italian haven where every detail, from the homemade pasta to the warm, inviting atmosphere, is meticulously crafted to transport you straight to the heart of Rome or Bologna. Giano has earned a reputation among locals as a genuine neighborhood gem, a place that manages to be both trendy and timeless, casual and romantic all at once.
The name Giano is the Italian word for Janus, the Roman god of beginnings and transitions, with two faces looking to the past and the future. This duality is a recurring theme at the restaurant, reflected in its decor and its cuisine. The front dining room has a more modern, sleek feel, while the back boasts a rustic charm with brick walls and wooden tables. The menu, under the direction of a passionate chef, mirrors this blend, offering traditional, comforting classics alongside innovative dishes with a playful, modern twist. The result is a dining experience that honors Italian heritage while keeping an eye on contemporary culinary trends.
A key element that sets Giano apart is its commitment to authenticity. The pasta is made fresh in-house, a detail that makes an enormous difference in the final dish. The ingredients are sourced locally whenever possible, with a few key items, like San Marzano tomatoes, imported directly from Italy to ensure the most genuine flavors. This dedication to quality and tradition is immediately apparent in the richness and depth of every plate. It's the kind of place where a simple spaghetti with pomodoro feels like a revelation, and a classic lasagna tastes exactly as it should—homemade, hearty, and full of love.
The experience is elevated by the staff, who are not just servers but passionate ambassadors of Italian food. They are knowledgeable, friendly, and dedicated to making every guest feel at home. This warm, caring service is what transforms a good meal into an unforgettable one, making Giano a place people return to again and again. Whether you’re a New York native or a visitor seeking an authentic and memorable meal, Giano is a destination that promises to delight with its exceptional food, cozy ambiance, and genuine Italian hospitality.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We were in town for a few days and after seeing a Broadway show, I asked my New York friend for a great Italian restaurant recommendation. He suggested GIANO on 126 E 7th St. Although it was a bit out of our way since we were on 42nd and 8th, we trusted his taste and took a cab—and I’m so glad we did.Wow! He couldn’t have recommended a better place. The dishes were absolutely delicious, full of flavor, and beautifully presented. Paolo and Roberta were incredibly authentic, professional, friendly, and caring. The atmosphere was so relaxed and welcoming, making the entire experience even more enjoyable.Below are a few photos of the amazing dishes we ordered. This place truly deserves 5 out of 5 stars. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic and memorable Italian dining experience in NYC.
July 13 · Romeo G.Stumbled upon Giano on a rainy Wednesday evening and it turned out to be such a gem.The food was very good and very well priced. homemade pastas and tasty appetizers that felt authentic and comforting and very fresh. The vibe is cozy and intimate, making it a perfect date night spot. What really set the experience apart was the service. Our waiter was incredible-warm, entertaining, and so passionate about Italian food. The way he described the dishes made you want to try everything. He’s honestly one of the reasons I’d come back.
August 20 · CalliThe restaurant has a nice and cozy atmosphere and the waiters are real Italians and are all friendly and efficient. That’s the good part. The food we ordered was good but nothing to write home about. Every pasta we ordered was a bit heavy on the salt. In fact the best part was the Appetizers we ordered. Its a nice enough place but we’d probably won’t come here again.
July 10 · Len AyeJust found this beautiful amazing Italian placed owned by Italians with truly good and fresh products , it’s delicious thank you for this experience
September 05 · Calista Choleythis food reminded me of the service, quality and taste of Italy. You can tell the ingredients are high quality and authentic, if you can’t, then I firmly believe you’re too Americanized and used to the most basic and bare ingredients and sugar in our foods here. This place is beyond delicious and the service is exceptional. This place is well priced for what you get in my humble opinion. The carpaccio was thinly sliced and perfectly cured with shaved Parmesan atop ($19) and the Spaghetti and meatballs was incredibly flavourful ($23). Yes, they serve you bread in plain paper bags and plain evoo literally very similarly to Italy. I’ll be back!!
