Choosing Mary's Coffee Shop is about embracing a genuine, neighborhood-focused dining experience. While the reviews present a mixed bag, they offer valuable insights. The positive feedback highlights the restaurant's strength: its flavorful and authentic Latin American food. A customer raved that their husband called his lunch "one of the best meals he'd had in a long time," specifically mentioning the delicious, curry-like spiced chicken dish and the excellent pork stew. This is the core of what Mary's does best—hearty, flavorful, and comforting food.
The negative feedback, while serious, seems to point to a bad day rather than a systemic issue for a place that has been serving the neighborhood for years. The reviewer mentioned that they have been a long-time customer and this was an uncharacteristic experience. This suggests that the quality and care are usually there. The small, family-run nature of the place means that service might not be polished, but the effort and passion are evident in the food on a good day.
For those in the neighborhood or passing through, Mary's Coffee Shop is a place worth visiting for its strong points: the fresh-tasting and delicious Latin American dishes, especially the chicken and pork, and its extensive, affordable menu. The opportunity to try local specialties like Mofongo and Cuatro Golpes, paired with a natural juice, is a unique and satisfying experience. It's a cafe that provides a slice of Brooklyn's diverse culinary identity, making it a worthwhile stop for a satisfying and authentic meal.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This small neighborhood café serves Latin American–style food (I’m not entirely sure from which region), but what stands out is how fresh everything tastes. I’ve been here twice so far. My first visit was for morning coffee and a quick breakfast. The coffee was decent, and I ordered eggs, salami, and pancakes to go. The eggs were scrambled and cooked a bit on the well-done side, the pancakes were fine, but the salami was missing from my order—which I didn’t go back to correct. My husband, however, raved about his lunch here, calling it one of the best meals he’d had in a long time. That brought us back the next day for lunch together. We tried their rice combo meals: white rice with stewed beans, plus a choice of meat. He had a chicken dish cooked with spices in a curry-like style—flavorful, aromatic, and not overly spicy. I went with pork chops, which were tasty but a little greasy and over-fried, making them slightly tough. My husband also mentioned the pork stew he had on an earlier visit was excellent. We added a fresh salad, though it wasn’t quite as crisp as I’d hoped. This is a tiny, family-run café, so don’t expect polished service, but they put a lot of effort into what they do. The food is fresh, hearty, and flavorful—especially the chicken and pork dishes. I’ll definitely return for those again.
August 23 · Debisree RayFood was unedible I live in the neighborhood and have been ordering from this establishment for years I have never had an experience like this with them . The omelette I ordered was burnt, the pancakes taste like they used literal cake mix how do you mess up a pancake so bad worst pancakes I have ever had I couldn’t even eat it. The grits were super watery towards the bottom in which my lady couldn’t even finish her platter I’m am super dissatisfied with this establishment. There was no care or effort put into a simplistic meal I want a full refund for this order this is was a terrible experience. DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE!!!!!

July 13 · Natividad GonzalesNeighborhood Coffee shop that caters to local clientele. They have ‘Breakfast All Day’ and some really good options for Lunch and more, a pretty diverse menu with lots of Choice that are Central and South American.Ordered a Spanish Omelette with Hot Sausage on the side and Wheat Toast. REALLY GOOD and filling / hearty. This isn’t the type of place You go to for Ambience but for the good food and cooking.Service was good and they were polite and kind.Definitely coming back here to try some more breakfast options…
