Laissez Faire Introduce
In a city known for its hidden gems and exclusive spots, Laissez Faire stands out as a unique destination that beautifully blends elegance with excitement. Tucked away in a discreet alley at 10 Theatre Alley and located downstairs in the historic Beekman Hotel, this cocktail bar offers an experience that is both intimate and electric. As the name suggests, "Laissez Faire" embodies a spirit of freedom and ease, inviting guests to immerse themselves in a high-end, bespoke environment. It's a place where a quiet, conversational evening can seamlessly transition into a lively night of dancing, catering to a sophisticated crowd looking for a dynamic and unforgettable outing.
Laissez Faire's distinct appeal lies in its dual personality. Early in the evening, from 8 PM to around 10 PM, the atmosphere is quiet and intimate, making it "perfect for conversation" and a great spot for a date or a relaxed get-together. The plush, low-lit interiors and well-crafted cocktails create an upscale yet cozy ambiance. However, as the night progresses, the energy shifts dramatically. As a customer described, "the lights dimmed, the music turned up, and tables were moved aside to make room for a dance floor. The energy completely shifted into a fun, lively vibe." This transition from a refined lounge to a vibrant "micro club" with live DJs is a major highlight, making it a one-stop destination for a full evening out. While some customers note that the food can be "overpriced and not really good," they acknowledge that it's a bar and not a restaurant, and the "Espresso Martini was great!" The drinks are the star of the show here, known for being "well crafted" and "delicious and really strong."
Laissez Faire is located at 10 Theatre Alley, New York, NY 10038, USA. Its discreet entrance in a cobblestone alley adds to its speakeasy mystique, making the discovery of the bar part of the experience. The bar's location within the historic Beekman Hotel is a major plus, placing it in the heart of the Financial District and close to TriBeCa. This area is easily accessible by various public transportation options. The Fulton Center, a massive transit hub, is a short walk away, providing access to numerous subway lines including the A, C, J, Z, 2, 3, 4, and 5 trains. This makes Laissez Faire a convenient and well-connected destination for anyone in the city. Its location is ideal for an after-work gathering with colleagues or a special night out. While the discreet entrance may require a bit of searching, the reward of discovering this hidden gem is well worth it for a New Yorker looking for an exclusive and unique spot.
Laissez Faire provides a full-service experience that is tailored to its upscale clientele and dynamic atmosphere.
- Dine-in and Table Service: Guests can enjoy the full experience by dining in and receiving dedicated table service, ensuring an attentive and personalized visit.
- Reservations: The bar "accepts reservations," a crucial service for securing a spot on busy nights and for planning a special event.

The features and highlights of Laissez Faire are what make it a must-visit destination for anyone looking for a high-end night out in New York City.
- Dual Atmosphere: This is the most unique highlight. The bar seamlessly transitions from a "quiet and intimate" lounge in the early evening to a "fun, lively vibe" with a dance floor after 10 PM, offering two different experiences in one night.
- Exceptional Cocktails: The "great cocktails" are a major draw. Drinks like the Espresso Martini are particularly praised, and the menu is known for being well-crafted, solid, and strong. The venue also offers a selection of natural wines, a great option for those who prefer them.
- Live Entertainment: The presence of "live performances," such as the weekly jazz band on Wednesdays, and top-tier DJs creates a dynamic and entertaining environment that goes beyond a typical bar.
- Upscale and Trendy Vibe: The atmosphere is consistently described as "upscale" and "trendy." The plush furniture, beautiful bar, and thoughtful lounge-to-dance-floor spacing contribute to a sophisticated and exclusive feel.
- Excellent Service: Customers repeatedly praise the staff for being "friendly and attentive." The service is described as "excellent," which is a key component of the overall positive experience.

What makes Laissez Faire worth choosing, especially for a New Yorker seeking a memorable night out, is its ability to offer a multi-faceted and truly unique experience. It's not just a bar; it's a "speakeasy" with a sense of mystery and exclusivity, a place that is a "hidden gem" to discover. The primary reason to visit is the quality of the cocktails, which are "well crafted" and a significant step above standard bar fare. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Laissez Faire is a bar/speakeasy located downstairs at the Beekman Hotel, with its entrance tucked away in a discreet alley. A bit shady haha!I came here for a date around 8 PM, when the atmosphere was still quiet and intimate—perfect for conversation. As the night progressed, things picked up by 10 PM. The lights dimmed, the music turned up, and tables were moved aside to make room for a dance floor. The energy completely shifted into a fun, lively vibe. Cocktails were well crafted, and the service was excellent—our server was friendly and attentive throughout the night.
May 20 · Jamie LAtmosphere and service was amazing. We came early on a Saturday evening. The food was overpriced and not really good, but it’s a bar so we didn’t expect much. Espresso Martini was great! Will come back again.
September 17 · Julia KStopped by around 8 to check it out but the doorman said it was empty and that we should come back at 10:30 when it’s busy, I asked if I needed a reservation or anything and he replied no.We came back a little after 10 and a different doorman asked if we were on the guest list, to which we replied no (because the doorman earlier said we didn’t need a reservation). They then proceed to tell us that we needed to do a $100 bar tab per person - a few people came out as we were discussing and we asked them how it was inside, to which they replied it as empty. $100 bar tab for an empty nightclub in NYC is a joke. What a waste of time. The other reviews are right, they have no idea what they’re doing.
July 11 · Anson WongThe atmosphere in this bar is very pleasant, and the jazz band on Wednesdays is really good! Food and cocktails are great too so overall, let’s say it’s an hidden gem in NYC for a date night!
May 16 · Daphné Cucumela super young sleazy crowd. this place will be closed soon. don’t even get me going about their staff. not a single hospitable bone in the place. c’est la vie
