Nami Kitchen Introduce
For New Yorkers seeking a culinary escape to Japan without leaving Queens, look no further than Nami Kitchen in Douglaston. Known for its dedication to fresh, high-quality ingredients and a broad menu that covers the best of Japanese comfort food, Nami Kitchen stands out as a reliable and delicious local favorite. Whether you're craving pristine slices of raw fish, a steaming bowl of rich ramen, or perfectly grilled and glazed teriyaki, this dual-concept Japanese and Sushi restaurant is prepared to satisfy.
The essence of Nami Kitchen lies in its commitment to authentic flavors and excellent execution. While many places try to master one Japanese specialty, Nami Kitchen successfully delivers on several fronts. Customers consistently praise the quality of the sushi, noting the fish is "extremely fresh," which is the hallmark of any great sushi experience. Beyond the raw bar, the kitchen is equally adept, serving up substantial and flavorful dishes that cater to all appetites and dietary preferences.
The atmosphere at Nami Kitchen is designed to be inviting, fostering a casual and cozy setting that’s perfect for both a quiet solo lunch or a lively dinner with a group. With a "fast service" reputation, it’s an excellent choice for busy New Yorkers who demand efficiency without sacrificing quality. The restaurant’s popularity for lunch, dinner, and solo dining speaks to its versatility and welcoming nature.
A true sign of a customer-focused establishment is the consistent attention to detail, which is evident in Nami Kitchen's offerings. For example, for those who prefer alternatives to traditional white rice, the restaurant is known to "serve brown rice." Furthermore, the staff, including a mention of the particularly nice "Peggy," contributes to a clean, friendly environment that keeps local patrons returning again and again, whether for dine-in or delivery. The dedication to customer satisfaction is part of what makes this Douglaston spot a true neighborhood gem in the New York dining landscape.
The comprehensive menu ensures that everyone at the table finds something to love, making it an ideal choice for groups. From simple yet satisfying appetizers like Edamame and Harumaki to classic soup options such as Miso Soup and Mushroom Soup, the culinary journey begins with familiar favorites. The core kitchen offerings, including Tempura and Teriyaki dishes, showcase classic Japanese preparation techniques. The Tempura options, like Tempura Vegetable ($11.00) and Tempura Chicken ($13.00), are described as crispy and lightly battered, served with a sweet-soy dip. The Teriyaki selections, featuring Teriyaki Vegetable ($11.00) and Teriyaki Tofu ($12.00), are prepared with seasonal vegetables and a classic ginger-soy glaze. These dishes, served with a choice of miso soup or salad, are staples of Japanese comfort cuisine.
Digging deeper into the menu reveals an impressive array of substantial main courses. Ramen enthusiasts in New York will be delighted by the selection. Options like the "huge" and satisfying ramen bowls, such as the Jigoku Ramen (exploding with flavor from red miso and chili with spicy minced pork), the rich Gyuniku Ramen (slow-cooked sirloin in a classic tonkotsu broth), or the lighter but equally flavorful Veggie Ramen are available. Other notable noodle dishes include Lemongrass Chicken Yakisoba and the Curry Laksa, a broth of curried coconut milk. Beyond ramen, the popular soba noodles stir fried dish is a standout, noted by patrons as a great choice that can often be prepared in flavorful vegan variations upon request, demonstrating the kitchen's flexibility.
The extensive sushi and sashimi menu is a major draw for the Douglaston location. Patrons can explore everything from classic rolls like the California Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, and Salmon Avocado Roll to an array of premium, creatively composed options. The dedication to "extremely fresh" fish extends to A La Carte Nigiri and Sashimi selections, various sushi and sashimi sets, and specialty rolls. The option for brown rice on sushi orders further highlights the restaurant's attentiveness to customer preference and health-conscious options, a detail often appreciated by local New Yorkers.
The restaurant has managed to create a welcoming and comfortable dining environment. The overall atmosphere is best described as casual, cozy, and quiet, while still maintaining a trendy feel. This balance makes it suitable for various occasions, from a quick weekday meal to a relaxed weekend outing. While one customer noted a minor issue with the outer storm door during a cold night, the overall quality of the food and service strongly outweighed this small amenity issue, proving the restaurant's consistent focus on the dining experience itself.
As a final note on its service to the Douglaston community, the variety of offerings and dining options ensures Nami Kitchen is a one-stop-shop for Japanese cuisine. Whether you need a quick, healthy lunch to go, a hearty dinner delivered, or a cozy spot for a night out, Nami Kitchen provides a quality experience with the best of Japanese flavors.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Considering it's quite literally near being a hole in the wall, I've got to give them credit. It's 8 degrees outside so eat in was not so popular tonight but in their computer the orders were flying in for delivery. The fish is extremely fresh so the sushi was actually pretty great. The kara age was made with a different batter than usual but it was crispy and juicy. Their ramen was huge! Way more than I expected for the price. The outer storm door was broken, no window so every time someone walked in, you felt the cold, icy wind blowing in. Other than that, I really enjoyed it
January 17 · Sensei SamaReally love this place. Great place to dine or get your delivery from. Peggy is very nice and the place is clean. The sushi is always fresh and delicious. They serve brown rice and make soups for me that are vegan and tasteful. The soba noddles stir fried are also great.
December 28 · Warrior QueenLiterally best sushi place I’ve been to. Fast delivery of your orders, kind staff, amazing food for price. Even though it is a little expensive it is worth it for sure. In my opinion the broiled salmon skin is the best
April 02 · MonkeMy Wifey, baby girl and I have been checking out local eatieries around the Douglston area. We are always looking for a casual quick Asian bite. We were in the mood for ramen and sushi and hence my wife found this place! It didn't have its own parking lot but there was ample street parking in the area. The place was well equipped to handle small groups of people but I can see it filling up fairly quickly. We had a partial booth seating area that was spacious enough to accomodate my baby girl and her stroller. The decor was inviting and the area was clean. When we got the menu, it was easy to navigate and contained its own set of sushi, rolls and ramen.I ordered a shoyu ramen while my sweetheart ordered the Angry Dragon roll and the spicy seafood tempura roll. The rolls were warm and well placed on the plate! The ramen was a generpis portion. However the broth was a bit overly salty. It could use a touch less salt, maybe a less salty soy sauce for it's soup base.Overall this place was a pleasant place to dine and we would definitely come back again
April 30 · William KongFirst time ordering here right when they opened on a Sunday. Great local spot, kind owners, great prices for the relative cuts you can get around bayside. I thought the sashimi cuts could be better, maguro was chewy but good for the price point as well as the Botan ebi and hamachi. Generous portions on the rolls as well.
