What is worth choosing
Choosing Dumpling Man is a decision to experience a true New York City institution. The restaurant's primary appeal lies in its unwavering focus on a single, beloved dish: dumplings. While some might find the menu limited, this specialization is what makes it so good at what it does. The dumpling offerings are diverse enough to satisfy different preferences, with options for pork, chicken, shrimp, and vegetarians. The reviews highlight the strengths and occasional weaknesses, providing an honest look at the experience. One customer raved about the "really yummy veggie dumplings," praising their "chewier" texture and deliciousness, even suggesting the filling could be more complex. This speaks to the restaurant’s commitment to texture and quality, even if the flavor profile might vary. The honest review about the dumplings being "on the chewier side" is a great insight for those who have a personal preference for that specific texture.
The value is another significant factor. As noted by a reviewer, the dumplings are a "good price," making them an excellent choice for an affordable and satisfying meal. The menu also includes other small plates like "Chairman Mao's Red Braised Sliders" and various salads and soups, providing enough variety for a complete meal. The availability of late-night food and the fast service are huge advantages in a city that never sleeps. The casual and cozy atmosphere is a perfect match for the demographic it attracts—college students and tourists looking for a relaxed and unpretentious dining spot. While it’s important to note the cash-only policy, this is a part of the authentic, no-frills charm. In a city where dining can often be an expensive and elaborate affair, Dumpling Man provides a refreshing and delicious alternative, focusing on a single product executed with efficiency and care. It is a worthwhile visit for anyone who appreciates a simple, delicious, and well-priced meal.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Dumplings are no good. ordered chicken and shrimp. the orange one is supposedly chicken. the white ones were white fish, corn and shrimp — these were overly packed with corn: The dumplings wrap was waaaay to thick. would not recommend
September 15 · Sav CReally yummy veggie dumplings - On the chewier side which is my personal preference! The texture was really delicious but the filling could be a bit more complex. Still absolutely worth the visit though, they’re a good price!
September 11 · Nicole SmithWe were starving and it was still bad. Dry, bland, overcooked, texture was off, hard to swallow. The filling tasted like cat food and the dough was too thick and overcooked. Not even the dumpling sauce had any flavor. These dumplings should only be used as paper weights
September 14 · Danielle SerranoWhat we liked best - the Dumpling Man staff are really friendly, kind and very knowledgeable about dumplings, their sake offerings and just nice to talk with while ordering. We enjoyed watching their precision timely steaming and pan frying their incredibly fresh dumplings and soup dumplings. We especially were impressed with the quality, cleanliness and were mesmerized watching their precision timely rhythmic hand stuffing and folding of their dumplings. 🥟 I liked that my order of 10 shrimp dumplings was too much for me to eat for dinner! My bottomless pit teen also was stuffed after eating 7 or 8 of the ! Amazing 🤩 My Lovie ordered the soup dumplings. 🥟 I liked that the shrimp dumplings had a little sweet corn inside along with several shrimp and pepper - finally a shrimp dumpling without bamboo and other tasteless fillers! The corn with full little fresh shrimps were tasty - probably the best insides I’ve enjoyed in a long time. My Lovie thought the soup dumplings were very juicy - a good thing since they are filled with juicy meat and soup - but not spicy enough for my dumpling connoisseurist. Here’s what we weren’t crazy about - the outside dumpling wrap is thicker than we are used to, substantial and not going to rip when dunked - no chance. Since we literally saw them being made, we know they are super fresh, I think we are more used to a thinner wrap.Don’t let the wrap stop you from trying this little place. My teen loved the hot and sour soup and the meat dumplings, my lovie and I thought the soup was substantial with juicy ingredients but way too sweet. We heard other diners express how much they loved the dumplings and soup so I think it’s a matter of preference and definitely worth trying to see what you think.I would go back (and will go back!) for their shrimp dumplings, they were just too good and too high quality and my top rating for me to not make a run for the Dumpling Man when I want shrimp dumplings. 🥟 Also, I have to say this - this was the CLEANEST most NEAT and sanitary dumpling place - hands down! We observed frequent hand washing, sanitary handling of food, utensils and pans. It was impressive, especially as we eat our way through other East Village and Chinatown stands. This is reason enough to make a visit. They are an A (really A+) most other dumpling places start at B tbh… I liked this place very much and enjoyed our dinner. 🍽️ Cash only or Zelle.
August 08 · Solange HansenA solid spot to get dumplings in the East Village! Dumpling Man serves a variety of dumplings from savory to sweet and in fun, vibrant colors. They're made to order, so be prepared to wait a little bit. If you’re not sure what you want to get, there's a sampler option, where you can get two chicken, two pork, one shrimp, and one vegetable in a box. The dumplings here are stuffed, filling, hot, and fresh!$9.55 steamed dumplings sampler
