New Long River Introduce
For decades, New York City’s bustling neighborhoods have been home to countless local Chinese eateries that serve as pillars of comfort food—and in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park, one of those reliable spots is New Long River. Located on the vibrant 5th Avenue, this Chinese restaurant is a staple for local residents seeking a quick, affordable, and satisfying meal. It embodies the classic neighborhood Chinese spot, focusing on efficiency, generous portions, and the kind of American-Chinese favorites that hit the spot for lunch or a late-night bite.
New Long River is not about white tablecloths; it’s about accessibility and convenience. It caters directly to the local user who needs a meal fast, whether they are grabbing a Luncheon Special on a workday or ordering dinner for delivery after a long shift. While the menu highlights the familiar and well-loved staples of the cuisine, such as various fried rice and lo mein dishes, its core offering is straightforward comfort food delivered with speed and affordability. This focus on practical, everyday dining has made it a popular choice for both lunch and dinner, especially for those dining solo in the fast-paced New York environment.
Location and Accessibility
New Long River is prominently situated at 6104 5th Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11220, USA, placing it deep within the diverse and energetic Sunset Park neighborhood. This area is easily reachable by public transportation, making it convenient for patrons across Brooklyn.
The restaurant’s location on 5th Avenue means it's accessible via local buses and is typically a manageable walk from the 59th Street subway station, which serves the N and R lines. For drivers, paid street parking is available in the vicinity, though as with much of New York, availability can vary. New Long River is also designed with accessibility in mind, offering Wheelchair accessibility for all patrons. However, local patrons should note the common practice of delivery couriers keeping their large electric scooters or motorcycles parked inside, which can sometimes impact the limited dining space and atmosphere.
Services Offered
New Long River prioritizes service options tailored for a high-volume, quick-service environment:
- Delivery: Available for maximum convenience to local Brooklyn addresses.
- Takeout: The primary mode of business, designed for quick order-and-go service.
- Dine-in: Available, though limited to a small number of tables (reportedly three tables inside), primarily catering to those who need a quick, casual meal.
- Late-Night Food: A valued offering for the New York crowd, providing food well into the evening.
- Good for Kids: The casual atmosphere and familiar food options make it suitable for families.
- Lunch and Dinner: Available dining options spanning the full day.
Features and Highlights
The appeal of New Long River is rooted in its menu structure, affordability, and meeting specific dining needs:
- Luncheon Specials: Highly popular for their value, these include options like Jumbo Shrimp with Broccoli or Spare Ribs (3), served with a choice of rice (pork fried, plain fried, or steamed) and soup (wonton, egg drop, or hot & sour) or soda, all for an extremely competitive price point.
- Comfort Food Staples: The menu is built on classic, satisfying comfort dishes. Core items like Shrimp Fried Rice, House Special Fried Rice, and various Lo Mein (Chicken or Shrimp) are consistently ordered.
- Speed and Efficiency: Recognized for its fast preparation, the restaurant is an excellent choice for a “quick bite” when time is of the essence.
- Variety of Offerings: Beyond the main courses, they offer small plates, appetizers like Shrimp Egg Rolls and Fried Plantain (Sweet & Green), and a selection of vegetarian options, ensuring broad appeal.
- Casual Atmosphere: The setting is decidedly casual, which appeals to locals looking for a no-fuss dining experience.
- Operating Model: Patrons should note the establishment operates on a CASH ONLY basis, a common feature of many highly local, high-volume New York eateries.
What is Worth Choosing
For a local New Yorker looking to experience New Long River, the smart choice is to focus on the items that offer the best value and represent the core appeal of a neighborhood Chinese takeout spot. The Luncheon Special is the most worth choosing; it provides a comprehensive, hot, and filling meal (main, rice, and a soup/drink) at a price point that is hard to beat anywhere in the city. The three-piece Spare Ribs option, in particular, offers a hearty and satisfying portion.
Beyond the specials, the main courses like Shrimp Fried Rice and Chicken Lo Mein are the backbone of their business and are reliably good for a filling dinner. New Long River's strength is its ability to deliver a taste of familiar favorites—uncomplicated and direct. It’s an ideal choice for quick, affordable, and late-night cravings. While the dining atmosphere is highly functional and service is minimal, the food is often praised for its quality and balance, making it a reliable dinner staple for many in the neighborhood when cooking isn't an option.
It's important to remember the cash-only policy to ensure a smooth transaction.

September 27 · Josh HaydenAMAZING food! Good balance of rice and the actual side dish. Contrastingly, the service is okay—they don’t care if you accidentally hand them more change, they just let you go. Additionally, the atmosphere (in my opinion) was not welcoming at all. The only “welcoming part” of it all were the open doors, but even so, mosquitoes and wind annoy me badly because of them. They park their own massive electric scooters/motorcycles IN the MIDDLE of the dining place (which—by the way—is so tiny). They also put so much boxes near the door. I come here a lot for dinner when I don’t have time to cook.Overall:Food = AMAZINGService = EhAtmosphere = Terrible
August 23 · Becky Yangordered sweet and sour chicken and it didnt even come with sauce... it was just plain chicken. never again.
September 19 · AzzieNot only is this my favorite take-out Chinese spot, but I genuinely think it’s one of the best in Brooklyn. The food here is consistently excellent, offering high-quality dishes that keep me coming back time and time again. The spring rolls are to die for—crispy, perfectly seasoned, and always fresh. Their wonton soup is another standout, absolutely delicious and generously portioned at an unbeatable $5 for a large.10/10
January 22 · Wallach CorrelleChinese take out definitely is cheap and fastAnd got lots of choices.I do it at least once a week. They have lunch special around $7 plus a drinkMy favorite item to order is either chicken/ beef broccoli or mushroom chicken. The pic I included is large chicken broccoli $10 include a large rice as well. It's good for 2 people.I like they have lots of broccoli , try to be healthy while eating take out xd.We also like to order wings as well. It's not like American style. It marinate already, sometimes can be but salty ( so we usually got coke as well) but it's really crispy and juicy. Once a while should be fineeeee. There are few Chinese take out near my place. They all taste pretty much the same. I think they order the sauce from the same company. And the price basically is about the same as well. So just go the closest one near you:)
