Omakase Shihou - Upper West Side (Lunch Available) Introduce
In the world of New York City dining, the term "omakase" often brings to mind a high-end, exclusive, and expensive experience. However, Omakase Shihou on the Upper West Side is challenging that notion by making this traditional Japanese culinary art form more accessible to everyone. Tucked away on the second floor of a building on Columbus Avenue, this restaurant offers an intimate and high-value omakase that is both a feast for the senses and a pleasant surprise for the wallet. It’s a place where you can enjoy a chef-curated journey through fresh, seasonal fish without the financial commitment of a Michelin-starred establishment.
The unique selling point of Omakase Shihou is its incredible value, particularly for its lunch omakase. For an affordable price, guests can enjoy a multi-course meal prepared by a talented and knowledgeable chef who is passionate about sharing his craft. The experience is designed to be interactive, with a counter where you can sit and converse with the chef, making the meal not just about the food but also about the culture and the artistry behind it. Each bite is described as a "journey," with distinct flavors that showcase the freshness of the fish. This makes the experience both enjoyable and varied, a truly memorable outing for both omakase veterans and newcomers.
The atmosphere at Omakase Shihou is a perfect blend of cozy and trendy. The counter seating is located on a different level within the restaurant, adding a sense of intimacy and exclusivity to the setting. This layout makes it a great spot for various occasions. For those who want to chat and learn more, the bar counter is a fantastic choice, as noted by a customer who met a "nice person at the bar." For a more private and romantic setting, the tables are available. The restaurant offers a curated selection of beverages, including alcohol, beer, hard liquor, and wine, which can be paired with the different courses to enhance the dining experience.
Omakase Shihou prides itself on the quality of its fish, with many sourced directly from Toyosu Market in Japan. This commitment to fresh, high-quality ingredients is evident in every piece of nigiri, which customers often describe as "melting" in their mouths. The chefs are not only skilled but also engaging, making guests feel like they are part of the process. While omakase is the main event, the restaurant also serves appetizers, makimono (rolls), and desserts, providing a complete and satisfying meal. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The value is insane, 49$ for a chef who’s talented, knowledgeable and ready to share his passion. Each bites are making you travel in another culture. I met a nice person at the bar so I recommend to sit there if you like to talk. For a date choose tables for more privacy !
July 30 · Paul RAmazing value for a quality omakase lunch! This was absolutely worth the price—a perfect portion for a satisfying lunch. The fish tasted fresh, and each piece offered distinct flavors that made the omakase experience enjoyable and varied. The omakase counter is located on a different level within the restaurant, adding a nice, intimate touch to the setting.
July 18 · Prateek MasaliThe perfect omakase I ever had. The price they suggested was too generous compared to what they offered. I would have paid twice as much for that kind of foods and services!!! Exceptional taste, nothing to compared to. This became my first choice to go to for sushi from now on.
May 04 · Junsoo AhnLocated on the 2nd floor of Tenzan, Omakase Shihou has a lunch special omakase experience for $50 that is fantastic. The service today was outstanding as well, and the fish was super fresh and inventive. This is a perfect, quiet place to go for date night on the Upper West Side!
August 17 · A RFirst of all, the food and service was good.If you like truffle, you are at the right address. The food was a little bit "overtruffled", they put it on nearly everything. The sushi chefs work unnecessarily fast and seemed a little stressed. We took the premium Omakase and were done in less then one hour. The strange thing is, that its kind of a two-class restaurant. The Omakase experience is on the second floor of a touristy looking japanese restaurant. We had to double check if we arrived at the correct location. Upstairs you get ac, the restrooms are downstairs but seperated.
