For first-time visitors or a returning regular, there are a few items on the Rafiqi's menu that are an absolute must-try. The combo over rice, which includes a mix of both chicken and lamb, is a fan favorite. The flavors of both meats are noted as excellent, and it provides the best of both worlds. The rice is consistently praised, and the combination of meat, rice, and fresh salad creates a perfectly balanced and satisfying meal.
Another item that receives universal acclaim is the lamb gyro. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I supposed people always pick something to critique at the restaurant. But on a food cart, not sure what kind of service do you expect.Having travel around the world, enjoying the street food in different country, hygiene and cleanliness is always a challenge. However, I didn't have any issues here unlike some of the previous reviewers.Food was great. I ordered a combo and the flavor on both chicken and lamb was excellent. The sauce was very good and they warned me about the hot sauce. I stop challenging myself about hot sauce in recent years but this was fine. They were overly cautious. But if you can't handle spiciness, you should go easy or skip it.The lamb is a little gamey than the other places I tried in Long island but not bad at all. It's true that there is no much service but I don't expect service at food cart. Though, friendliness and smiles don't hurt.
April 21 · Mark LiuHands down the best lamb gyro I had in NYC, and not exaggerating, anywhere in the world too. For the record, I had them in London, Paris, Barcelona, and back home in California in different cities. With that being said, we were on our way to lunch, but my wife wanted to grab coffee first before making our 15-minute walk to the restaurant. This food truck was on the way to the coffee shop, and we noticed the delicious food smells, which right away I recognized it was due to the lamb and great spices on it.Long story short, on the way back, we couldn't resist and ordered a lamb gyro. The gentleman was very nice and asked me what ingredients and condiments I wanted to add to my gyro and how much of each item. I had many gyros in NYC, and I think that was a first where I could customize my gyro this much, and where I didn't feel rushed by the person serving the food either. We added lettuce, tomatoes, onion, chickpeas, plenty of white sauce and red sauce, and the gyro turned out so delicious (and spicy) lol 😋! Another note, we noticed how usually "lamb" meat usually is a 50/50 combination of lamb and beef, and I think this one was lamb only. Maybe that's why the meat was more juicy and flavorful too! 🤔😊 Thanks for reading!
May 06 · Pedro GonzalezEasily the best Halal Food Truck in the area. The person running the truck (possibly the owner) is the nicest man around! Friendly, conversational, caring and genuine. I love when his truck is outside my work, makes my day, even if I just get to pass by and say hi!10/10 highly recommend!
May 20 · Christopher HeinzHidden gem that was open a little earlier than the hours stated. Toppings and ingredient quality were solid.
June 05 · William YuBest halal cart in NYC! Have been having it on the corner of soho tribeca since 9 years now! Generous friendly staff to serve you, large portions and very fresh ingredients, their differentiating factor is their fresh meat seasoned to perfection (not too spicy nor bland) which they give a greater quantity than others and especially their fresh salad mix that makes them stand out vs other carts including olives, corn, tomato onions, but you can opt out if you don’t want to get a side of salad or pick and choose from the mix. FYI this is also not too spicy if that’s not what you are looking for and their hot sauce also has reasonable spice levels. Their white sauce is amazing and I always ask for extra. This is a hearty meal on a cold day or even a fresh meal in the summer. Portions are large so I get to finish it in 2 gos. They are also located in union square Incase you live/work around there. I would highly recommend this over halal guys due to the taste and quality.
