While some bakeries specialize in one particular item, Red Gate Bakery is worth choosing for its dynamic and diverse selection. The key reason for its popularity is the constant innovation and commitment to flavors that you won't find anywhere else. The bakery doesn't shy away from unusual combinations, and this is its greatest strength. A "Pickled PB&J" bar might sound strange, but for adventurous foodies, it's a reason to visit. The "Brown Butter Blondies" and "Salted Caramel Brownies" are consistently praised as must-try items, and they stand as a testament to the bakery's ability to perfect classic recipes while adding a unique twist. The "Midnight Banana Bread" is also a fan favorite, described by one customer as a "treat" for its rich, moist texture and deep flavor.
The "massive rotating selection" of cakes, bars, and cookies means that every visit to Red Gate Bakery feels like a new discovery. This element of surprise is a powerful draw and keeps customers coming back to see what new creation has been baked. The "Slice of the Day" is particularly appealing for this reason, as it offers a chance to try a different cake each time you visit. This variety is what makes the bakery so compelling and a standout choice among the many sweet shops in NYC. The fact that the bakery is a small, micro-bakery where the bakers are in full view adds to the charm, making the experience feel personal and authentic.
Furthermore, the efficiency of their service, particularly for online orders, is a significant advantage. In a city where time is of the essence, the ability to order ahead and simply grab your items from a designated counter is a major convenience. This is a clear indicator that the bakery is not only focused on a great product but also on a great customer experience. While some customers have experienced long lines on weekends and occasional stock-outs, this is often a sign of high demand and immense popularity, which speaks to the quality of the products. For anyone looking to escape the ordinary and indulge in creative, delicious baked goods that are crafted with passion and skill, Red Gate Bakery is an essential destination in the East Village. It's a place that proves that a little bit of fun and a lot of flavor can create a truly unforgettable experience.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Such a cool bakery!! Quirky, fun flavours. Iikeeeee. Massive line that moves kinda fast (11am on Saturday - when they open). They know how to make cake!! I’ve had two of their corn cakes and they were soooo good. I really liked the midnight banana bread. It’s a treat. Corn bun was alright for me - it felt a bit stale?I would keep coming back to try their massive rotating selection of cakes, bars, cookies, buns & more.
September 14 · Isabella GrandicFinally made it here to try to choco-toffee cookie, only to find that they were out. That was surprising, as we got there hours before closing time, but I guess that’s not really their fault. What was most irritating was that we stood outside in the midday sun for at least 20 minutes before we could get inside and realize that they were out of several item. I wish they’d at least put up a sign so people aren’t wasting their time waiting for items that aren’t there. Since we stood in line, we grabbed a spiced oatmeal cookie, which was overly sweet. There are plenty of good cookie places in NYC - this one is not worth another visit.
September 13 · Deb LActually bbbusssinnn. The corn basil cake is like 12/10 amazing delicious. I am gluten intolerant but glutened myself for this. The lines are stupid actually. On a Saturday honestly don’t even try.I went an hour after they opened on a Friday and got the last slice of cake. Like it’s insane. But this stuff isssss good.I wish they opened earlier. But otherwise no notes. Great food.
August 08 · Cassia AThis bakery is absolutely worth a visit and I'll certainly be back to try more.I like that they offer a special cake flavor every weekend. I tried their rhubarb macaroon cake slice ($10) and it was soooooooo good and not overly sweet. The cake slice was so fresh. I also had the midnight banana bread ($5). And oh my goodness, I was surprised at how moist and rich it was. It's a thick and heavy slice, in the very very best way. Really good quality and value. This is a small shop. There's not much space inside. No seating except for one small table outside.I returned for what infatuation has rated as #1 chocolate chip cookie in nyc, the choco toffee cookie. It's suuuuuper good, chewy, but I loved the PB miso cookie even more!Red Gate is also becoming my favorite bakery for cake slices.
May 24 · Jessica YangMy wife and I squeezed in a visit here, last thing before leaving the country on our visit from the UK. I’m almost struggling to find words to describe how at home one felt walking through the door. Something about the nostalgic smell of fresh baked cookies, or perhaps the knowledge that as an LGBT person you’re welcomed in with open arms.We chose an abundance of cookies which served as an excellent snack whilst travelling. Whatever you guys do with your Spiced & Iced cookie, just carry on doing it!!!!!
