Siena Introduce
In a borough celebrated for its dynamic and diverse food scene, Siena stands out as Brooklyn's premier destination for elevated Kosher Italian dining. Located on the bustling Kings Highway, Siena isn't just another restaurant; it’s a refined culinary experience that seamlessly blends the authentic, comforting flavors of Italy with the requirements of kashrut. This dual focus allows Siena to fill a unique and highly demanded niche, providing an upscale, classy, and trendy atmosphere often reminiscent of high-end Manhattan establishments, making it a truly exceptional spot for New York patrons.
Siena is more than a casual Italian eatery; it's a fine Kosher Italian restaurant that commits to bringing the best of Italy to the Gravesend section of Brooklyn. The restaurant is known for its elegant design and intimate seating, with many patrons noting the comfortable booth arrangements that lend themselves perfectly to a date night or a family gathering. The ambiance is consistently described as "wonderful" and "classy," offering a sophisticated backdrop to an exquisite meal. The clientele often includes a trendy crowd, drawn in by the combination of chic decor, great location, and high-quality food.
The culinary offerings are the true heart of Siena. The kitchen specializes in house-made favorites, which include house-made pasta, artisanal pizzas, and meticulously prepared fish dishes. The menu demonstrates a modern, elevated take on Italian-Kosher cuisine, with dishes that are both classic and refined. Customer favorites like the Rigatoni Alla Vodka and the Eggplant Rollatini showcase the kitchen’s ability to execute comforting classics flawlessly. A notable highlight consistently praised by frequent guests is the Tuna Au Poivre, which is described as "out of this world" and a dish that "never disappoints," even when ordered well done, a testament to the kitchen's skill in handling premium ingredients.
For New Yorkers who observe kosher dietary laws, Siena offers an invaluable dining option. It provides a level of quality and atmosphere usually reserved for non-kosher fine dining establishments, all while operating under strict supervision to ensure the highest standards of kashrut. The commitment to a kosher/dairy/Italian premise, but executed with an elevated and modern approach, is what makes Siena a crown jewel in Brooklyn's dining landscape. Furthermore, the availability of vegetarian options, healthy choices, and thoughtful menu additions like the Cauliflower Pizza demonstrates a commitment to accommodating diverse dietary needs.
While the restaurant can get extremely busy, particularly on Thursday and Saturday evenings—suggesting that reservations are highly recommended—patrons who visit during less crowded times, such as lunch, often report "very attentive" service, underscoring the staff's dedication when they are not overwhelmed by peak volume. The cost, when sharing main courses family-style, is considered by many to be a pretty good value for the quality and experience provided, especially given the upscale nature of the restaurant and the quality of the ingredients. The dessert selection, featuring items like the Siena Cheesecake and the popular Brownie Sundae, also garners high praise, proving that the culinary excellence extends to the final course.
Siena’s presence on Kings Highway cements its status as a vital local restaurant, a place where people plan to celebrate special occasions or simply enjoy a top-tier Italian meal. The extensive kosher wine and premium liquor offerings complement the menu, allowing for complete pairings that enhance the dining experience. The involvement of experienced professionals, including the design of the menu in collaboration with an award-winning Chef (Mark Strausman, formerly of Campagna and Coco Pazzo, as noted in public information), further elevates the credibility and culinary ambition of Siena, making it a sophisticated choice for any Brooklyn food enthusiast.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Overall a pretty good experience here on a busy Thursday night. Upscale vibe, very nicely designed, and most seats are within booths, making things more intimate. The food itself is kosher/dairy/Italian but elevated and modern (most reminiscent of Cipriani). There were some service and other issues, but the fundamental premise is good. Trendy crowd, great location, good food.We ordered family style, got eggplant rolatini, hen of the woods (grilled mushrooms topped with parmesan and pesto), and the mushroom salad (more of arugula topped with charred mushrooms and farro). We also got two pizzas, the dough of which was very impressive and made me think what kind of oven they have back there. We got Margherita and, you guessed it, more mushroom and goat cheese (which was excellent, and topped with truffle oil). The tuna steak came with a peppercorn crust and red wine glaze that was excellent, even good well done. Branzino was very good as well. The fettuccine Limone was good, reminiscent of Lil Frankie's, but with some kind of green mixed in. Overall a heavy emphasis on mushrooms, but we didn't mind. The real critique here is that they seemed to be missing a maitre'd or real manager to handle the crowds that were coming in at 9pm. The staff was hardworking, but unprofessional. They first told us we didn't have a reservation (although we put down our credit card), then told us our 9pm reservation was made for 9:15. Recommend using Resy, OpenTable or a similar service. There seemed to have been 3 different groups all with a 9pm reservation, and only a single open table. We had a reservation for 7, but they seated us on a 6 seated table. They asked us "tap, bottled or sparkling" - we said tap, but they kept bringing us bottled. $37 for 5 bottles, or $49 with tax and mandatory 20% tip. Would not happen at a more professional establishment. Could use some work here.Cost was $160 per couple including tax and tip for family style, sharing mains and a bottle of wine. Not bad and pretty good value. Dessert was excellent, especially the ice cream brownie thing.
March 03 · Hal DoueckGreat restaurant highly recommended. We actually planned on visiting another restaurant nearby but ended up here, glad we did. It was lunch time which means the place wasn't full and servers were very attentive, we actually ended up asking for the dinner menu which has some additional pasta options (menu was provided graciously). Decor is nice so is ambiance and more importantly food is great and authentic, everything we ordered was amazing.
April 02 · J.This place is so so for me. Too tough on where you can sit and seating is cramped so very little privacy. Waiters are ok but not amazing and one of the people there are rude (I wont say which one) food is expensive and comes in smaller portions but generally ok tasting. Restroom is nice and smells good.I don't plan on coming back but I am not agalnst someone else trying this place.
March 04 · benService is awful. The host/waiter makes you uncomfortable with his attitude. Also - The place closes at 10 officially. They kicked us out at 9.It's too bad because the food is good and theres a nice ambiance. But I'm not going tonight because the waiter is rude.
August 05 · S BroynDelicious food and great atmosphere! The fish and pasta are the best in Brooklyn. The other reviewers who are mad when they walk in without a reservation and are told they can't be seated don't seem to understand that this is a small restaurant with limited seating. Just because you see some empty tables doesn't mean they are available. If you didn't make a reservation, don't be surprised if you're seated at the bar, especially on a Thursday or Sunday night. It never bothered me to be seated at the bar because I understood when I walked in without a reso that I may not even be seated.
