Steiner’s Pastry Shop Introduce
For New York locals who appreciate the tradition and quality of old-world baking, Steiner’s Pastry Shop in Port Washington, Long Island, stands as a cherished institution. More than just a local bakery, Steiner's represents the successful return of a decades-long baking legacy to the community. The shop is helmed by Franz Steiner, an Austrian-born baker who earned his master's degree in baking in Salzburg before bringing his high-quality, European techniques to the New York area.
Steiner’s Pastry Shop is proudly an old-fashioned German bakery, a designation that promises robust flavors, traditional recipes, and a commitment to classic baked goods. This commitment is evident in their most famous and highly-coveted items, such as the renowned Meltaway ($15.95) and the indulgent Meltaway with Chocolate ($16.95), which have garnered a fervent following among Long Island residents. The bakery’s inventory focuses heavily on breads, seasonal pies, and time-honored specialties, steering away from being a typical shop for modern, trendy items.
Customers consistently praise the shop’s authenticity. One local noted, "If u like a good old fashioned German bakery this is your place." Visitors come for staples like the homemade Jelly Donuts—celebrated for having a generous filling—and specialty items like the savory, crusty pretzels, available specifically on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays). ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This shop is so-so. They are not known for their muffins or donuts. However, their jelly donuts have more jelly than the donut itself. They do have a delicious pecan ring, but they keep on raising the price. It is now up to $25.95, which is outrageous. Elsewhere, these rings average $18. So if you don’t mind spending $26 for a pecan ring, this place is for you.
July 20 · Steve Rosenthal (sjr)If u like a good old fashioned German bakery this is your place. I particularly like their home made pretzels only available on Saturdays as sundays. Check em out!
June 06 · john lalenaThere are not enough stars here! I would easily give Steiner’s Pastry Shop 10 Stars if I could! For my breakfast this morning I had a raisin scone slathered in butter… pure Heaven. But that is only one of many delicious favorites. Muffins bursting with fruit, cookies with the Old World flavor of your Granny, and a Meltaway that should frankly be illegal! Quality ingredients assembled and baked with love is the only satisfactory description of this top-notch Bakery. You simply MUST try Steiner’s for yourself. A+++
February 23 · Theresa NardoWanted a golf theme cupcake for an event and this is the picture they sent, quoting me almost 4$ a cupcake.I am positive that I can make these at home and they would be better looking! Then they called back saying they couldn’t accommodate me and my request for something that looked nicer than this because they didn’t have the capacity to do it.Very odd.Hoping they will try harder for their customers in the future!I must say they are very responsive and the quick response gave them an extra star for me.Nice people, but I will be going elsewhere.REVISED REVIEW: still leaving 2 stars even though they called to explain why they could not accommodate my needs for a custom golf themed cupcake. Then they should not have sent me this picture and quoted me 4$ a cupcake! Very small shop, mom & pop, which I usually support. I believe the owner was the one that called and basically told me off about my review. When I explained to her about why I left this review she gave me an attitude and was NOT HAPPY when we hung up.I AM SURE this is a great, family owned business and bakery but do not use for custom cakes and desserts.
April 08 · Kristina “Special K” SheloCool classic bakery. Raisin bun was skirt and delicious. The other items our family had were also delicious.
