Studio 151 Introduce
In the bustling landscape of New York City's nightlife, where countless bars and restaurants compete for attention, a few truly special places manage to stand out by offering something genuinely different. Studio 151 is one such place. Located on Loisaida Avenue, this establishment defies easy categorization, seamlessly blending the intimate charm of a speakeasy with the culinary excellence of a high-end sushi restaurant. It is a destination for those who appreciate not just a good drink or a delicious meal, but a complete, curated experience.
Studio 151's identity is a rich tapestry woven from its various offerings: a sophisticated cocktail bar, a top-tier sushi restaurant, and an intriguing, lo-fi venue for live performances. This unique combination creates an atmosphere that is at once cozy and trendy, making it a perfect spot for a romantic date, an intimate gathering with friends, or a memorable night out. The space itself has a certain allure, with a vibe that suggests both exclusivity and effortless cool. Patrons are invited into a world where quality and artistry are paramount, from the meticulously prepared sushi to the expertly mixed drinks.
What truly sets Studio 151 apart is its dual focus. While many bars might offer a limited food menu, and many sushi restaurants might have a basic drink list, Studio 151 excels at both. The bar side boasts a great selection of cocktails, wines, and an impressive collection of Japanese whiskey, catering to even the most discerning connoisseur. Meanwhile, the sushi is a highlight in its own right, celebrated by patrons for its freshness, quality, and presentation. The concept of a speakeasy-style sushi restaurant is rare and intriguing, promising an experience that goes beyond the typical night out. The establishment has cultivated a loyal following of both locals and tourists seeking a distinctive and high-quality escape from the ordinary.
The overall feel is one of discovery and delight. Patrons often feel like they've stumbled upon a hidden gem, and the positive word-of-mouth reflects this sentiment. Reviews highlight the "delicious" fish, "good" cocktails, and "great vibes," confirming that the concept works. The seamless integration of a fun, relaxed bar with a serious, high-quality sushi kitchen is the secret to its success. Studio 151 is not just a place to eat and drink; it's a place to be a part of an experience, where the ambiance, the food, and the drinks all come together in perfect harmony.
Studio 151 is situated at 151 Loisaida Ave, New York, NY 10009, placing it in the vibrant heart of the East Village and Lower East Side. This neighborhood is known for its eclectic mix of historic charm, artistic flair, and lively nightlife. The bar's location is easily accessible from various parts of Manhattan and beyond, thanks to the city's extensive public transportation network. Several subway lines and bus routes serve the area, making it a convenient destination whether you're coming from Midtown, Brooklyn, or anywhere else in the city.
The specific address on Loisaida Avenue contributes to its exclusive, speakeasy-like appeal. It's a bit tucked away, which adds to the feeling of discovering a hidden gem. For those arriving by foot, the walk through the neighborhood is an experience in itself, with its unique street art, independent shops, and vibrant energy. The accessibility is a significant benefit, but the feeling of being in a "secret" spot is part of its charm.

The decision to visit Studio 151 is a deliberate choice for a refined and memorable night out, and there are several reasons why it is a worthwhile choice. The establishment successfully marries two distinct concepts—a high-end sushi restaurant and a sophisticated cocktail bar—into one cohesive and engaging experience. As one customer noted, the fish was "extremely delicious" and they would "go back straight away." This kind of direct, enthusiastic feedback speaks volumes about the quality of the food.
While the portions may be on the smaller side, as mentioned in another review, this is a deliberate part of the "refined dining concept." It's not about a large, filling meal, but rather about a carefully curated and high-quality culinary journey. The menu, from the Otoro to the Toro Uni Caviar Hand Roll, reflects this focus on premium ingredients and expert craftsmanship. Similarly, the drink menu, with options like Hibiki 21 Yrs and The Yamazaki 12, appeals to those with a discerning palate who are looking for something more than a standard drink.
The atmosphere, while perhaps not as over-the-top as some might expect from a speakeasy, is still praised for its "great vibe" and "fun interior." The fact that both clients and staff were seen dancing highlights the relaxed and enjoyable energy of the place. It's a spot where you can be yourself and feel comfortable, all while enjoying some of the best sushi and cocktails the city has to offer. The combination of exclusive, high-quality offerings with a laid-back, welcoming vibe is a rare find in New York City. For those seeking an elevated yet unpretentious experience, Studio 151 is a no-brainer.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Loved this speakeasy lo-fi bar / restaurant. The fish was extremely delicious would go back straight away if I could. Cocktails were good too I do love a bit of mezcal. Vibes were great with some clients and staff dancing. Overall just a great place with a very fun interior.
July 19 · Louise KoopmansWe visited this speakeasy-style sushi restaurant with high anticipation, and the food certainly delivered on quality—fresh, well-prepared, and beautifully presented. Portions were on the smaller side, but that’s expected for a refined dining concept focused on curated experiences. That said, while the culinary side met expectations, the overall atmosphere and setting felt more average. The anticipation we had going in was met, but we were missing that extra wow factor that would make the night truly memorable. For those seeking excellent sushi in a unique format, it’s worth trying, but don’t expect the ambiance to match the intrigue of the concept.
August 10 · MAG FortunatePro tip: get there a bit later like 9-10pm as it gets busier- and go for the sake bottles. We enjoyed, the place had a very cool vibe, unique and a lot of character. You won’t find a place quite like it. The soundtrack was so good. The food was good but not amazing - and I’d say is overpriced. $6-10 for each nigiri piece and $8-12 small hand rolls - quite steep for what you get. So be prepared if your intention is to have a full dinner.
February 02 · G. R.The best meal I’ve had in a long time. Did omakase. Every piece was incredible. It very reasonably priced for the amount of food we got. At the end we also tagged on the chefs recommended hand roll which was the fatty tuna. It rocked my world. No mixed drinks but a great selection of wines and sake.
August 18 · Abby AldridgeExcellent vibes. Easily one of my favorite places in the city. The spot is a sort of casual lounge where you can order sushi (love the uni handrolls) and mixed drinks, all while enjoying excellent music from the really good sound systems.
