Tènten Introduce
In a city filled with diverse culinary options, Tènten stands out by specializing in a specific and highly-prized style of Vietnamese cuisine: Northern Vietnamese pho. Located on Baxter Street, this restaurant brings the traditional flavors of Hanoi to the bustling streets of New York. Unlike the sweeter, more heavily garnished Southern style of pho common in the U.S., Northern pho is celebrated for its simpler, more savory, and intensely flavorful broth that allows the high-quality ingredients to shine. This focus on authenticity and quality has quickly made Tènten a must-visit destination for pho enthusiasts and curious foodies alike.
The restaurant's commitment to its craft is evident in every bowl of soup. The broth is simmered for hours to achieve a clear, rich, and aromatic base, and the noodles are thicker and chewier, a distinct characteristic of the Northern style. Tènten offers a clean, comfortable, and casual atmosphere, perfect for a solo meal, a quick lunch, or a cozy dinner. The staff is known for their friendliness and willingness to guide customers through the menu, ensuring a great experience even for those new to this specific type of Vietnamese cuisine.
Tènten is located at 119 Baxter St Unit B, New York, NY 10013, USA. This address places it conveniently between Chinatown and Little Italy, a vibrant and bustling area known for its diverse food scene. The central location makes it easily accessible for locals and tourists alike who are exploring downtown Manhattan. As a neighborhood known for its high foot traffic, finding a spot to park on the street can be challenging, but paid street parking is available.
The restaurant itself, while described as small, is clean and comfortable, offering a pleasant respite from the energetic streets of New York. Its simple "canteen style" layout is designed for efficient service, making it a great option for those looking for a quick and satisfying meal. The location is easily reachable by various subway lines serving the area, ensuring that a delicious bowl of pho is never too far away.
Tènten's service model is designed for convenience and speed, catering to the fast-paced nature of New York City while still providing a comfortable dining experience.

Authentic Northern Vietnamese Pho: The main draw of Tènten is its specialization in Northern Vietnamese pho. This style of pho is known for a clear, less sweet, and more savory broth, with fewer garnishes compared to its Southern counterpart. This focus on simplicity allows the deep, beefy flavor of the broth and the quality of the ingredients to be the main highlights.
Exceptional Broth and Noodles: According to customer reviews, the broth is delicious, and the noodles are a standout feature. They are described as being thicker and chewier than the typical pho noodles found in other restaurants, a characteristic that is highly praised for its satisfying texture. This attention to detail in the core components of the dish sets Tènten apart.
Great Flavor Combinations: The menu offers classic and well-executed pho combinations like the Pho Tai Gau (flank beef and brisket) and Pho Ap Chao (sauteed beef shin). The Beef Dry Noodle Salad, a summer special, is another highly-regarded dish, showcasing the restaurant's ability to create delicious and authentic flavors beyond its signature soups.
Comfort and Health: Tènten's menu is centered around comfort food that is also a healthy option. Pho is known for being a wholesome, nutrient-rich meal. The restaurant's emphasis on fresh ingredients and high-quality preparations makes it an excellent choice for a quick yet healthy bite.

This personal touch and willingness to provide good customer service add significantly to the overall positive dining experience.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Got a flank beef and brisket pho from @tenten_nyc that specializes in Northern Vietnamese pho. It was delicious! The place is pretty new so the space is clean and comfortable even though small. Would be back to try other pho options next time and perhaps a drink as well.
April 06 · VickiIf you’re looking for quality authentic Vietnamese soups, it’s the place to go. Being familiar with Vietnamese food, even in Vietnam, but within the soup realm only familiar with Pho, I was recommended the Tai Gau. The broth is delicious and the staff super friendly. I was able to try a a new tamarind drink they offered me and it’s quite delicious! The atmosphere is simple canteen style. Highly recommended!
July 30 · Magali GonzalezIt is genuinely rare to find a good bowl of pho in New York. It is even harder to find a bowl of hanoi-style pho (mostly differentiated by toppings - pickled garlic is my favorite but people also love the poached egg) in New York. And this spot is doing incredible bowls of hanoi-style pho…maybe the best in the city? We stopped in on a rainy evening, and it was easy to find seats. Lots of single diners in for a quick meal. Super cozy. Service super fast.
May 23 · Aubrey VinhWe got there a little after they opened, they have a handful of items on the menu and half the ones I wanted wasn’t available. That’s a bummer. Personally found the broth bland and the brisket was tough and dry and I don’t like how the flank beef is cut. It’s like shredded strips which doesn’t give a great texture. But Nice and hospitable people who work there though.
April 11 · L WongI grew up with Northern-style pho and didn't realize it was a rarity in NYC until, well, coming to NYC. So on that basis alone, schlep on over to Chi-town to try Tenten's offerings.Yes, the prices are Manhattan prices ($17/bowl + tax/tip), but at least you'll enjoy what you're eating? We got the Loi Gau, which was savory and filled with nicely done cuts of briskey, and the Ap Chao, which had more umami on account of the garlic broth and sauteed beef. You really can't go wrong with any of the bowls. For libations, try the Daily Refresher or Vietnamese lemonade during these early summer days. I don't drink coffee, but I'm sure their Viet coffee offerings will slap. This is mostly a take-out spot, so don't expect spacious or ornate seating. Come during off hours if you're really worried about fitting your 10 closest friends at a table.Word of warning: Their online menu doesn't match their in-person menu. I have no idea why.
