The Hairy Lemon Introduce
Introduction / Overview
When it comes to finding a go-to spot for watching a game or simply grabbing a drink with friends, New Yorkers know that a great sports bar is more than just a place with a few TVs. It needs to have the right energy, a solid menu, and a great selection of drinks. The Hairy Lemon, located in the heart of the East Village, fits this bill perfectly. Described by one reviewer as a "rambunctious bar, filled with televisions and sports memorabilia," it's a place that embraces its identity as a hub for sports fans and casual drinkers alike. Beyond the sports-focused environment, The Hairy Lemon has a reputation for offering a full and vibrant bar experience. While one review points out some potential areas for improvement in food and drink execution—such as the balance of seasoning on a pretzel or the flavor of a cocktail—these comments offer constructive feedback rather than a full dismissal of the place. The ingredients themselves are noted as "fresh and well-proportioned," which is a significant positive, indicating a strong foundation in a kitchen that cares about quality. The bar's focus on offering classic comfort food like burgers and wings, coupled with an array of bar games and a popular trivia night, positions it as a genuine neighborhood hangout. It’s a place where the fun never stops, catering to a diverse crowd that appreciates a lively and engaging atmosphere. The Hairy Lemon has made a name for itself as a dependable and exciting part of the East Village's bar scene, a place where you can relax, be entertained, and enjoy a night out without any pretense.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The presentation of the dishes was appealing, but the overall experience was underwhelming due to issues with flavor and balance. The soft pretzel arrived warm and had a pleasantly fluffy interior, but it was excessively coated in coarse salt. While the texture was on point, the saltiness completely overpowered the dough’s subtle, comforting flavor. A lighter hand with the seasoning would have made this a much more enjoyable appetizer. The nachos were a mixed experience. The toppings guacamole, grilled chicken, jalapeños, pico de gallo, and sour cream were fresh and well-proportioned, but the tortilla chips themselves were flavorless and lacked any crunch or seasoning. The blandness of the chips made the entire dish fall flat, despite the effort put into the toppings.Lastly, the Bloody Mary I ordered was disappointing it tasted like it was made entirely of mixer with little to no detectable alcohol. It lacked the kick and complexity you’d expect from a proper cocktail, leaving it feeling watered down and uninspired.Overall, while the menu items had potential and looked inviting, the execution left a lot to be desired. A few adjustments in seasoning and drink preparation could greatly improve the dining experience.
July 02 · Nathan YakuzaA rambunctious bar, filled with televisions and sports memorabilia. It’s a good place to play trivia.
June 21 · Matt BSurprisingly good little drinking establishment. The name is deceptive as it makes it seem more like a club or rough bar, but it's more comparable to a sports pub. Signs in the bathroom advertise Aussie Rules and the flags above the bar and over the ceiling are from all over the globe. From the outside it might feel like an Irish bar, but it's for more going on than that.A side room contains some bar games (Giant Connect 4 and some old arcade games) plus there's a pool table in the main space. Happy hour prices are reasonable and the bar staff were very welcoming.
July 13 · HowardIt's a very nice mellow place where everyone is just enjoying themselves in a great atmosphere!!!The wings are amazing and I think everyone should know about them, delicious!!!
April 05 · Justo SenquizGood ambience and music for some louder conversation. They have multiple large screen TVs for any sports games and feature Penn state games as well. There is giant Jenga and a pool table if that's your thing. I took a star off for the food, the wrap I got was small and the fries were mediocre at best. Otherwise service is good and quick. They are open late so that is a plus
