WXOU Bar Introduce
In the landscape of New York City's ever-evolving bar scene, WXOU Bar stands as a steadfast beacon of what a classic neighborhood bar should be. Tucked away on Hudson Street in the West Village, this spot is refreshingly unpretentious and straightforward. It's a "no frills" bar in the truest sense, and that's precisely its charm. In a city where bars can often feel overly themed or intimidatingly trendy, WXOU offers a casual and cozy atmosphere that immediately puts you at ease. It's the kind of place where you can walk in, grab a drink, and feel right at home, whether you're a regular or a first-time visitor. This genuine and unassuming vibe is a significant part of its appeal, attracting a crowd that values substance over spectacle.
The bar’s name, WXOU, evokes a sense of old-school cool, a tribute to the kind of independent, radio station vibe that values good music and good company above all else. This isn't a bar for elaborate cocktails or complicated menus; it's a place for a simple, honest drink. The focus is on the essentials: a good pour, a solid beer selection, and a comfortable spot to hang out with friends. For groups looking for a place to gather without the pressure of a scene, WXOU is an ideal choice. The bar has a limited number of tables, which encourages a close-knit, convivial atmosphere, and the ability to find a seat for a group is a definite plus. The price point is also a major draw, offering drinks at a more approachable rate than many of its competitors in this famously expensive neighborhood. A pint for approximately $7 is a rare find in the West Village, making WXOU a great value.
WXOU Bar’s cash-only policy is an important part of its identity and something visitors should be aware of. While it might seem "tricky" in an increasingly cashless world, it adds to the bar's old-school character. For those who forget to bring cash, there is an ATM on site, making it easy to get what you need without a major detour. This small detail reinforces the bar's dedication to a straightforward, no-nonsense approach. The simple menu, with a great selection of beers, cocktails, and other liquors, caters to a wide range of tastes while staying true to its core identity as a straightforward bar.
The atmosphere is perfectly suited for a laid-back evening. The lighting is often described as dim, creating a relaxed mood perfect for conversations. While some reviews mention mixed experiences with service, many patrons praise the bar for its friendly bartenders and efficient service. The key to enjoying WXOU is to embrace its “no frills” nature, appreciating it for what it is: a genuine neighborhood spot. The bar's history and its role as a West Village institution are palpable, adding to its authentic New York charm. For those who want to experience a classic, unvarnished piece of the city's nightlife, WXOU Bar is an excellent choice.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I’ve always loved this bar and been multiple times. I went in to use this restroom (after having one drink there) and a drunk man at bar kept asking how I was “honey” I ignored him to use restroom. On my way out, he blocked my path out, and his party and the bartender cussed me out as I left calling me rude. This man looked drunk and harassed me. Never had my space that violated. He literally blocked me from leaving and refused to move until I acknowledged him and the female bartender supported it. Will not be back here after allowing (sober) customers to be treated that way.
June 22 · Lauren MadsenNo frills is an accurate description of this understated bar. Simple beer menu for the most part and a couple of tables for groups to sit at. Prices are approximately $7 for a pint. Cash only makes things tricky but they have an atm.
August 26 · Rovik RobertLove this Bar in the West Village. I stop in whenever I visit my friend the city to start our night. Place is run well and fair priced for New York City.
July 25 · Ward H. BlackwellUsually like this bar, nice bartenders goodMusic.Tonight was UNC v Duke, 2 seconds left on the clock, 1 point game. Guy walks in front of the tv, kindly ask him to scoot an inch over. Guy leaves the bar - weird. The bouncer started SCREAMING AT US, and THREATENED TO KNOCK US OUT. We left the bar and he followed us outside hurling insults. Honestly surprised, but definitely do not recommend anyone go to this bar - the people there to protect you are dangerous and threatening.
March 14 · Cole SnyderJacob was one of the most fun bartenders I have had in a while. He was able to interact with everyone in the place while still being attentive to everything. I had a blast here and will continue to visit here!!
