★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1As someone who has been a loyal customer since they've opened I have to say that service has definitely declined. I'm from Queens, NY so I'm surrounded by guyanese restaurants on every block. Anytime I visit Newark, we call ahead for pickup and we're told 15 mins. Upon arrival we always waited an additional 15-30mins. I can't tell if it's that they're slow, too busy talking up a storm in the kitchen to focus on cooking, or that they wait to see if the caller actually shows up before beginning to prepare the food. We've ordered both catering and regular orders and they're never on time.Moving on to the food, it's always flavorful and cooked well. However, attached in my review is a picture of their veggie fried rice. The container is exactly half full. For $10 this doesn't make sense to me. In Queens, a tray of food is filled to the brim for say $12-15 which is what should be reconsidered here to not make someone feel like they've been ripped off. I value honesty and transparency especially when it comes to food establishments. So to take away from this, fill your containers up, charge appropriately for it and stop lying to people that it's only 15mins then give me a sorry excuse that the kitchen is busy when it's really not since I can clearly stand there and hear that everyone in the kitchen is too busy laughing and talking to focus on their work.
July 05 · Cassandra ChandrabhanI would like the owner for this business to eat the roti that they sell the customer because this is unbelievable. You pay 3.50 for a roti and it tasted like rubber, you can even warm it up an hour later to eat it becomes so hard guys you can do better. People are paying their money and I think they should get a good Service sometimes the roti are OK but sometimes I don’t know what is going on like, do you eat the food that you sell to customer
October 13 · Azeela BasirI recently ordered a cake from this place and unfortunately, it was quite salty and under cooked. I was really looking forward to enjoy it, but it didn't turn out as expected. Additionally the owner was rude and unhelpful when I raised my concerns, which was disappointing. I hope this place can improve on their recipe and owner should take a 101 on customer service. Reading a few reviews from here, he always blame his customer and accused them of wanting free stuff.
October 16 · Khrisna SukaranIf you’re looking for quality West Indian meats and fish, Akwaaba Meat and Fish is the spot. From fresh goat, oxtail, and curry-ready chicken to well-seasoned fish and smoked meats, they’ve got everything you need to cook a proper Caribbean meal. The selection is solid and always fresh, and they often carry all the staples—green bananas, plantains, scotch bonnet peppers, and seasonings you’d usually have to go to three different stores to find. You can tell they take pride in offering authentic West Indian cuts and ingredients. The staff is friendly, and the service is quick and no-nonsense—just how we like it. The place is clean and well-organized, and they’ll even help you prep your order if you ask.Whether you’re cooking curry goat, stew peas, escovitch fish, or Sunday rice and peas, Akwaaba has what you need. Highly recommend for anyone craving real island flavor!
