★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Friday feast at my fave local, Monarch — Japanese izakaya with a modern twist. Wagyu burger on black sesame buns? YUM. Pork belly steam buns. Kimchi fried rice, agadeshi-style mushrooms and always that addictive spicy cabbage. Stuffed and happy! Big love to the staff.
July 08 · N NTucked away in the heart of Williamsburg, Monarch Izakaya delivers a bold, creative take on Japanese-inspired brunch. The standout? The black sesame French toast, and carefully crafted cocktails round out a brunch that’s as photogenic as it is flavourful. Their Ube Ricotta Pancakes—topped with maple butter, hibiscus-poached pear, and sesame crumble—are a fan favorite, praised for their light texture and subtle sweetness. Follow it up with really amazing savoury choices like the Japanese omelet! Monarch strikes the rare balance between inventive and comforting, making it well worth the trip.
May 31 · Madhurima BasuI don’t know why Rule of Thirds gets the hype that it does and this place doesn’t. Better plating, first come first serve for brunch so no reservation wars, better pricing, better food. Came here for brunch and it was amazing. Highly recommend the fig sandwich
August 10 · Priya Narlahighly recommend walking in!! for some reason they were reserved out for sunday brunch - but we were able to walk in and grabbed a seat immediately. it was pretty empty when we got in around 12:30! :0 we went upstairs to sit on their patio and ordered 2 things to share - their ube pancakes and shiitake fried rice with hanger steak. both were delicious :-)!! i loved the slices of peaches (?) on the pancakes - not too sweet, just perfect! will come back to try their other menu items!
July 08 · Jenn LiuThis place is simply amazing! Everything about it from the staff to the decor and atmosphere was 10/10. I first stepped in and was greeted by the staff so kindly - they were very attentive and friendly. You can tell that there was intention behind the food! We got the eggs Benedict and the Ube pancakes which had a unique subtle twist to it but complimenting to the taste. Also got to try their cranberry chocolate scones and was a huge highlight too. Highly recommend!Ambiance was top tier also! Great for photos if you’re looking to take some cute photos.
