Angel Azul Bakery Cafe Introduce
For over two decades, **Angel Azul Bakery Cafe** has been a beloved institution in the heart of the Jersey City Heights, standing as a testament to the rich and comforting flavors of Latin America. Far more than just a place to grab a pastry, this establishment is a vibrant hub that seamlessly blends the service of a traditional bakery, a hearty breakfast restaurant, and an authentic South American coffee shop. Since opening its doors in 1998, Angel Azul has specialized in bringing heavenly Ecuadorian and Colombian cuisine to the New Jersey community, providing a genuine taste of home for many locals and a delightful discovery for others.
The core of Angel Azul's appeal lies in its dedication to freshly made goods, baked daily right on the premises. Customers routinely line up for the warm, authentic breads and pastries that fill the shelves, embodying the dedication of a family-run business that chased and achieved the American Dream. The menu is a comprehensive celebration of Latin American breakfast and snack culture, offering a compelling alternative to typical American diner fare. Whether you are looking for a quick, authentic coffee and a fresh pastry on your morning commute or a substantial, flavorful start to your weekend with a traditional Colombian or Ecuadorian breakfast platter, Angel Azul provides a welcoming and bustling atmosphere for a quick visit or a leisurely dine-in experience.
The bakery is famous for its cultural staples such as the cheese-based, gluten-free breads like **Pandebono** and **Pan de Yuca**, alongside classic, savory snacks like the Colombian and Ecuadorian **Empanadas**. Their all-day breakfast menu showcases regional specialties, including **Huevos Pericos** (Colombian-style scrambled eggs with scallions and tomato) and the distinctly Ecuadorian **Tigrillo** (mashed green plantain mixed with cheese, egg, and onions). Coupled with high-quality Colombian coffee and unique cold beverages like **Batido de Fruta en Leche** (Fruit Smoothie with Milk), Angel Azul Bakery Cafe is a crucial part of the cultural and culinary landscape of Jersey City, offering authentic taste and excellent value that has remained a constant for years.
The history of Angel Azul is deeply intertwined with the fabric of Jersey City Heights. The name itself, meaning "Blue Angel," was chosen by one of the founders, Zoily Gallo, reflecting a personal spiritual significance. Having celebrated its 25th anniversary, the bakery maintains a close bond with its loyal customer base, taking pride in using the best ingredients and baking fresh products seven days a week. It’s an ideal spot for any New Jersey resident seeking an authentic, satisfying, and culturally rich food experience at reasonable prices.

What is worth choosing
When visiting Angel Azul Bakery Cafe, both new and returning patrons in New Jersey should prioritize items that highlight the bakery’s distinct Latin American specialization and enduring popularity. The extensive menu can be daunting, but a few items stand out as truly worth choosing.
Firstly, any customer must experience the **Freshly Baked Goods**. Specifically, the **Pandebono** ($1.25), a staple Colombian cheese bread, is frequently cited in reviews as an absolute highlight. Its unique texture and savory cheese flavor make it perfect for dipping into one of their hot drinks, such as the rich **Spanish Coffee Latte**. Complementing this, try a **Buñuelo** ($1.50) for a fluffy, slightly sweet, deep-fried cheese ball that epitomizes the Colombian snack tradition.
Secondly, for a substantial start to the day, choose one of the authentic Latin breakfast platters. The **#4 Huevos Pericos (Veggie Choice)** or the meat-inclusive **#7 Huevos Pericos (Colombian Style Scrambled Eggs) With Meat** is a savory and comforting choice. For those looking for an Ecuadorian specialty, the **#8 Tigrillo Special Dish of Green Plantains** ($8.00), a mash of green plantains with cheese and eggs, offers a unique and hearty flavor profile unavailable at most Jersey City breakfast spots.
Finally, for a savory, grab-and-go option, the street snacks are incomparable. The **Empanada Colombiana** ($1.50), stuffed with meat and potatoes, is a quintessential choice that offers a burst of flavor for minimal cost. Be sure to ask for their complimentary **Side Hot Sauce (Picante)** to complete the experience. Choosing Angel Azul means embracing the warmth, authenticity, and delicious cultural depth that this Jersey City institution has offered the community for generations, all at very accessible prices.

July 15 · VickiCasual spot for Colombian breakfast. Their waffle breakfast is great. It was confusing though to order because their menu said "eggs with ham or bacon or chorizo", but when we ordered it turns out it was just eggs, and any meats were additional charge. Also the photo of the eggs had vegetables in it but the actual eggs did not. Overall pretty confusing, but the food was good. The waffle is by far their most expensive breakfast item. Also not everyone speaks English.
September 20 · Salima NadiraEverything in this bakery is good! Hands down, the only spot to have breakfast in the Heights. If you can deal with the slow service, it is worth the wait and you will not be disappointed. The avena (oatmeal), coffee and meals are amazing!
August 21 · Anny MartinezI go here in the morning to get breakfast all the time. I ordered an iced coffee they put a splash of coffee filled with an entire cup of milk. I ask for less milk they say it will cost me more to have a full cup of coffee when what I ordered was literally an iced coffee. Then they gave me half assed iced coffee they didn’t remake it they dumped part of the cup out, added whatever coffee was left in the pot then gave it to me. I said this isn’t a full cup they I have to pay extra for a full cup. Terrible service I go here almost every other day and will not be returning. Management is rude and penny pinches
January 07 · Rose MA great mom and pop bakery and amazing prices! They've been serving the community for over 20 years I believe. From a warm cup of coffee or oatmeal or freshly baked bread or cookies or cakes this is the place! Highly recommend this bakery👌🏼
