Apollo Bagels Introduce
In a city where the "best bagel" is a topic of passionate debate, Apollo Bagels has entered the scene not by replicating the classic New York style, but by creating a unique and compelling product all its own. Located at 41 John Street, this bakery brings a fresh perspective to the bagel world, specializing in sourdough bagels that are both chewy and flavorful. Unlike the traditional dense and fluffy bagels, Apollo’s are known for their distinctively crispy exterior and a texture that is both tender and wonderfully chewy on the inside. This difference is intentional and has garnered a devoted following. The shop originated as a pop-up and quickly gained a reputation that led to permanent locations, a testament to its quality and popularity. The menu is intentionally simple, focusing on doing a few things exceptionally well, which is a hallmark of many successful New York eateries. Customers can choose from a handful of bagel varieties and a selection of classic spreads and high-quality sides. This minimalism allows the bakery to perfect its craft and ensure every bagel is made with care and precision. It’s a place designed for a quick visit, a spot where you can grab a delicious and satisfying breakfast on the go, making it a perfect fit for the fast-paced Financial District. The no-fuss approach and dedication to a top-tier product is what makes Apollo Bagels a standout destination in a city with no shortage of bakeries.
Apollo Bagels has quickly become a must-try for many New Yorkers, and its reputation is built on the unique qualities of its bagels. Customers frequently praise the bagels for being "very chewy and flavorful." A standout menu item is the lox and tomato on an everything bagel, with the fresh tomato receiving particular acclaim for its simplicity and freshness. While some patrons find the salmon a bit salty, the quality of the ingredients is consistently noted. The atmosphere is vibrant and busy, a clear sign of its popularity. On weekend mornings, lines can be long, but as noted by customers, the wait "moves fairly fast." This efficiency is a huge plus in a city where time is of the essence. The staff, including a highly-praised employee named Mel, are described as "lovely and nice," with great energy that makes the busy experience a pleasant one. The concept of an "open-faced" bagel with a generous layer of cream cheese and toppings is also a unique selling point that makes for a less messy and more enjoyable eating experience. While some may debate whether a sourdough creation fits the definition of a "classic" New York bagel, there is no denying that Apollo has found a winning formula with a product that is fresh, well-made, and delicious in its own right. The bakery also offers a great cup of coffee to complement its bagels, making it a complete breakfast destination for those in the neighborhood.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The bagels are very chewy and flavorful. I got the lox and tomato one. Love the tomato bagel, really fresh and simple. Personally, the salmon one is a bit salty for me.The wait on weekend mornings is around 15–20 min, but the line moves fairly fast. The best thing about this location is probably Mel at the counter! She’s so lovely and nice, we love her energy, and she definitely deserves a raise!
August 03 · Sonia WuNot sure if its worth the hype but bagel does tasted really good and fresh. Huge line up inside but everyone working hard to serve faster. It could be hard to find space for dine in, but its plenty.Ordered everything bagel with cream cheese and tomato. There was only one washroom.
September 03 · Prabhjot KaurBest bagel in the city IMO. Not a traditional nyc bagel however the flavor is top notch. The bagel is crispier and softer in the inside. I got the tomato and scallion cream cheese bagel and the tomato was perfectly seasoned. Will absolutely go again
June 18 · Ujesh VoraSo, after checking in with the Wolf of Wall Street (he says hi, by the way), I figured it was time for a more modest investment-a bagel. Apollo Bagels had the hype online, so naturally, I had to do some “market research.”I went for the classic smoked salmon and cream cheese on a seeded bagel, and wow…no regrets. Fresh, tasty, and the bagel had that perfect crisp bite that makes you instantly forget you’re paying New York rent. I paired it with a fresh orange juice, which landed right in the Goldilocks zone: not too sweet, not too bitter. Just right. Now, the vibe inside? Meh. Let’s just say Apollo Bagels isn’t winning any interior design awards. Spacious? Yes. Clean? Yes. Character? About as much as a tax return form. I couldn’t help but think even Starbucks has more ambiance, and Joe & the Juice feels like a nightclub compared to this.Verdict: The bagel is a star, but the restaurant is… background noise. Best enjoyed as a takeaway treasure while strutting through NYC pretending you’re in Succession.
August 26 · Boeing driverMy sister told us about this great bagel place uptown and last week we were pleasantly surprised one opened on John St. We bought a dozen to our son's pre-Father's day BBQ gathering. The response from everyone was unanimous and was the best bagel they ever tasted. The use of sourdough is not only creative but inspired. The bagels are as lovely to look at as they are delicious. The store on John St. is clean, roomy and the staff is amazingly courteous and helpful. Although there was a line behind us they were patient and we didn't feel rushed. In summary just an excellent experience all around.
