Backstage Tavern Introduce
In the heart of New York's iconic Theater District, where the energy of Broadway permeates every street, lies a venue that perfectly captures the spirit of the stage. Welcome to Backstage Tavern, a two-story bar, pub, and restaurant that offers an experience as captivating as a live performance. As a professional content writer specializing in local businesses, I can tell you that this spot is a true gem, beloved by theatergoers, performers, and locals alike. It's not just a place for a drink; it’s a destination where you can enjoy great food, an amazing atmosphere, and even catch a live performance from a Broadway artist.
Backstage Tavern distinguishes itself from the typical New York bar with its dynamic offerings and lively ambiance. The restaurant has a "little rustic vibe" that feels both cozy and trendy, creating a welcoming space whether you're heading out with a group or enjoying a moment of solo dining. The two-story layout, complete with a rooftop patio, provides a variety of settings to suit your mood. It's a place where you can grab a quick drink at the bar, settle in for a full meal with table service, or enjoy the city views from the rooftop.
The bar's connection to the Theater District is a major highlight. Customers have been known to "catch a Broadway actor or actress performing live," making for an unforgettable evening. This authentic live music experience, combined with a dedicated "fast service" staff, ensures that you can get your pre-show drink or post-show snack without a long wait. The menu features an impressive list of specialty cocktails, including the "Green Room Refresher" and "Mezcal Matinee," which have received rave reviews for being "spot on." But it's not just the drinks that shine; the food is also "really good," with dishes like the Korean chicken sandwich, steak frites, and carne asada tacos earning high praise. This combination of quality food, great drinks, and a unique entertainment factor makes Backstage Tavern a standout choice in Hell's Kitchen.
The location of Backstage Tavern is one of its most valuable assets. Situated at 346 W 46th St, New York, NY 10036, the bar is on the famous Restaurant Row in Hell's Kitchen, right in the heart of the Theater District. For those with mobility needs, the venue is also wheelchair accessible, with a wheelchair-accessible entrance and restroom.
While paid street parking is available, as is the case throughout Midtown, the ease of public transportation makes it the preferred method for getting to and from the bar. The surrounding area is lively and full of energy, providing the perfect backdrop for a night out. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We stayed next door at Hotel Scherman, and ended up here every night. The food was really good, the live music was entertaining, but the staff was amazing. Peyton made us feel like we were old friends that hadn't seen each other in years. Highly recommend!
April 27 · David BernsteinWe went to Backstage Tavern for drinks after a Broadway show and had a great time. The drinks were excellent—I tried the Mezcal Matinee and the Green Refresher, both were spot on. It's honestly one of the best bars to hit up post-Broadway show, especially since you might catch a Broadway actor or actress performing live, like we did. 💁♀️ The chef and staff were great—super welcoming and accommodating. Definitely worth a visit.
April 08 · Jodi SaysonLoved everything about this place! The atmosphere and service was really top notch. The restaurant itself had a little rustic vibe that I liked. Our server Olivia took really good care of us! (loved the Bahama Mama)….. and the food was delicious! Next time I’m in New York, I’ll definitely be back!
January 16 · Carl BrooksAMAZING restaurant! The food was incredible (we got the steak frites and carne asada tacos). The customer service was perfect. Lots of friendly staff. We had great convos with the host, waiters and head chef. Great, comfortable atmosphere with live music almost every night. Highly highly recommend!
December 30 · Ina SugayI visited Backstage Tavern after wandering down 46th street looking for somewhere to eat before seeing a gig at Blue Note in the evening. I would highly recommend it - nestled away and quiet for a Saturday night, a great place to escape for some food and a drink. I had the Korean chicken sandwich and it was great - as you’d expect in NY, great portions. Very friendly service and a wind range of beers on offer. Plenty of TVs for watching whatever sport is on when you’re visiting. I’d definitely recommend this for a drink and/or food before a show or gig near Times Square.
