Bagel Talk Introduce
In a city where the search for the perfect bagel is a way of life, Bagel Talk stands out as a reliable and authentic neighborhood spot on the Upper West Side. This classic New York bagel shop delivers a straightforward and satisfying experience, focusing on the fundamentals that make a bagel truly great. Unlike some of the trendy new places, Bagel Talk is a no-frills establishment that prioritizes a delicious, freshly made product at a reasonable price. It’s the kind of place you can walk past, decide to give a try, and find yourself happily surprised, as one customer did. The bagels themselves are a key highlight, praised for their "nice" appearance and chewy texture. While one reviewer found the texture "perhaps too chewy," the quality of the ingredients, like the "clean tasting" nova (smoked salmon) and the flavorful sun-dried tomato and basil cream cheese, is a consistent draw. This focus on quality ingredients and a classic approach has made Bagel Talk a staple for locals looking for an honest and delicious start to their day.
Beyond the bagels themselves, the menu at Bagel Talk is designed to cater to a variety of breakfast and lunch needs. The "All Day Breakfast" menu is a major draw, offering a wide range of classic bagel sandwiches from the simple yet delicious Bacon, Eggs And Cheese Sandwich to more substantial options like the Pastrami And Eggs Sandwich. The shop also offers "Gourmet Salad Sandwiches" with options like Baked Salmon Salad and Smoked Whitefish Salad, which are known for their flavor and generous portions. This variety ensures that whether you’re in the mood for a hearty breakfast or a lighter lunch, you’ll find something to satisfy your craving. For those with dietary restrictions, Bagel Talk has a dedicated "Gluten-Free Sandwiches" menu, which includes options like the Healthy Sandwich and the Vegetarian Sandwich. This commitment to inclusivity is a significant highlight, making it a welcoming spot for a broader range of customers. The menu also includes a variety of beverages, from a full Espresso Bar with options like Capuccino and Latte, to fresh Smoothies, making it a one-stop-shop for a complete and satisfying morning meal.
The service at Bagel Talk, while noted by one customer as a bit confusing due to having to give their order twice, is generally described as "nice" and friendly. This is a common experience in a busy, fast-paced New York bagel shop, where efficiency is key. Despite the potential for a small wait, the quality and affordability of the food make it worth it. The atmosphere is that of a quintessential neighborhood bagel shop—casual and focused on the product. It’s a place for a "quick visit," where you can get your order and be on your way. The cleanliness, while mentioned as a point for improvement by a reviewer who wished the "tables were swept," doesn’t detract from the overall quality of the food. The focus here is on the bagels and the spreads, with the "famous cream cheese and salmon sandwich" being a particular favorite. The shop’s inclusive environment is also a notable feature, with its designation as an LGBTQ+ friendly and transgender safe space, as well as a gender-neutral restroom, creating a welcoming atmosphere for all members of the community. This combination of great food, reasonable prices, and a friendly vibe makes it a beloved local spot.
The price point at Bagel Talk is a major selling point. As one customer noted, the "price is reasonable," making it an accessible option for daily breakfast or lunch. This affordability, combined with the quality of the ingredients, provides excellent value for money. The menu offers a variety of bagel flavors, from the classic Plain and Everything Bagel to more unique options like the Flagel Everything Bagel, which is a flattened bagel. The option to buy a Bakers Dozen is perfect for families or for an office breakfast. The variety of spreads and sandwich fillings means that you can customize your order to your exact preferences, from a simple cream cheese schmear to a full-fledged gourmet sandwich. The popularity of the "famous cream cheese and salmon sandwich" speaks to the quality of their ingredients, particularly the thinly sliced, clean-tasting nova. While the experience may have its minor quirks, the consistent quality of the food and the friendly service ensure that Bagel Talk remains a top choice for a classic New York bagel experience. It is a place that lives up to its name, providing a great bagel and a solid foundation for a good day.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I walked past it and decided to stop and give it a try. I got a poppyseed bagel, with nova, and sun dried tomato & basil cream cheese. I also added capers. The bagel looks nice and was packed tightly. I love how the nova glistening in the natural lighting. The bagel was on the smaller side. The texture of the bagel was chewy, and perhaps too chewy. The flavor of the sun dried tomatoes and basil cream cheese was nice. It had a lot of sun dried tomatoes. I didn’t taste, not even a hint of, basil. The quality of the nova was pretty nice. It was clean tasting and sliced thinly. Overall, it was a nice bagel. The staff were nice, but I don’t understand why I have to give my order twice, once to the person who’s making the bagel, and then to the person who is in charge of charging. Also, I don’t know why they don’t make the bagels in order. I might come back, if I’m in the neighborhood.
September 12 · Bradley CPrice is reasonable and famous cream cheese and salmon sandwich is absolutely delicious! I wish this place was just a little cleaner and tables were swept otherwise it would’ve been a perfect bagel place. Definitely would stop there again!
June 10 · Kostiantyn SkorenkyiJust a terrible bagel. Stale, barely any seasoning on a sesame and everything bagel, and heavily rationed cream cheese
September 13 · Eric PowersPopped in late afternoon for a quick biteThe Bagel was greatThe service was excellent, server was great and even made sure I got a cold drink after I chose myself one that wasnt so cold (thanks)Enjoyed the bagel, was fresh, quiet and tasty salmon.Cld use some remodeling but recommend 100
August 20 · M. FataniSolid bagel spot, but the atmosphere is in need of major TLC with duct tape holding up most of the ceiling. My nova sandwich was very tasty and so much lox it was like they were giving it away.
