What is Worth Choosing
For New Yorkers with a penchant for high-quality, artisanal pastries, Barachou Upper West Side is a truly worthwhile destination. The primary reason to choose this bakery is its singular focus on perfecting the cream puff. While the price per piece may seem high to some due to their tiny size, the consensus is that the quality is undeniable. These aren’t just "instagrammable" treats; they are "a quality bite" filled with rich, authentic flavors that are well-balanced and satisfying. The passionfruit puff, as noted in a customer review, is a prime example of their ability to deliver a powerful and delicious flavor experience in a small package.
The bakery's appeal also lies in its versatility. It's a great spot for a quick, personal indulgence—a "treat for yourself" on a busy day. At the same time, the beautiful presentation and option for catering make it an excellent choice for larger events. The concept of using these elegant puffs for a wedding, for instance, adds a modern and sophisticated twist to a traditional celebration. As a women-owned and LGBTQ+ friendly establishment, Barachou also provides a welcoming and inclusive environment that aligns with the values of many New Yorkers.
Ultimately, Barachou offers a taste of Parisian elegance without the long flight. It provides a unique and memorable experience, whether you're grabbing a couple of puffs for a quick bite, or planning a large order to impress guests. The quality of the product, the charm of the shop, and the convenience of various service options—from curbside pickup to delivery—make Barachou a standout choice on the Upper West Side for anyone seeking a delightful and high-quality dessert.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Cute little cream puff bakery. The cream puffs are very tiny, unlike traditional sizes I’ve had at other places. We picked up a couple to try. They are pretty good. Our favorite is probably the flavor of the month. Pineapple, coconut.
August 03 · Donna SMy friend and I checked out Barachou for dessert since we were in the area. The shop is very small, and if they decide to expand, I hope they decide to offer more seating options. Right now, there's only room for one party to sit down, so you either need to bank on the fact that you're going at an off-time, or know you're grabbing and going. The displays are cute and cozy, and the presentation of the tarts, puffs, and pastries are beautiful.I was pleasantly surprised by these puffs, as I thought they would just be instagrammable and offer nothing else. We got the special of three puffs for $10. The puffs are tiny and bite-sized, which is the only reason I think they are overpriced. We got the passionfruit puffs and split the lemon meringue. If you like passionfruit, I highly recommend the passionfruit puff. The tangy flavor really came through and balanced nicely with the pastry, even with a generous amount of filling. I would have liked a stronger lemon flavor for the lemon meringue, but it may have been influenced by the power of passionfruit. These puffs would make a great gift for someone special who likes pastries, or a treat for yourself if you're treating yourself. I'm just a glutton who isn't a big fan on spending on something that is so tiny, but I cannot deny that it was a quality bite.
December 29 · Ashlyn KogaI don't usually write reviews, but I have to give a shoutout to Barachou because I'm completely obsessed. I've always loved tiramisu, hands down my favorite dessert so when I found out they make a version called Tiramichou, I knew I had to try it. Honestly, it might be one of the best things I've tasted since I left Europe. It has everything I love about tiramisu: the creamy layers, the rich mascarpone, the perfect coffee flavor but the twist is the choux puffs soaked in espresso. That's what makes it original and unforgettable. The rest of the menu is just as good. Their signature cream puffs come in all kinds of flavors, and everything is so fresh and beautiful it's hard to choose. A box of three is always a great little treat on the go. I've also tried a couple of their tarts, they're incredible, like little bites of Paris.Barachou is one of those places that just makes you happy the second you walk in. It's cozy, charming, and smells like heaven straight from the oven.Coming from Switzerland, I really miss French pastries and the smell of fresh croissants in the morning, so thank you, Barachou, for bringing back those memories.🥐🩷
June 17 · Louise ComanescuA lively little spot dishing out some excellent French inspired treats. We stopped in after a nearby movie. We ordered the Tart of the Day (mixed berry), a flourless chocolate cake and beverage. It was all outstanding. Topped of with great service by the young lady at the counter.
August 19 · Fred AllusoThe passion fruit cream puff changed my life . One of the best desserts I’ve ever had . It had a rich filling in the middle . Next time I’m gonna order 3 of those. The raspberry was really good and the whipped cream flavor focuses more on the puff pastry. The bakery is very small so I wouldn’t expect a sit down experience unless you get lucky. The coffee is ok . The passion fruit cream puff is the must order .
