★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I have search for a place that cooks Fresh Collard greens and Homemade Gravy not that CAN STUFF! This is the SPOT right In Newark on Lyons Avenue. Oxtails fall OFF THE BONE YALL GOTTA COME TRY THIS PLACE ITS DELICIOUS!
April 07 · Shakilah BrownWe stopped at Betty Lee Jeans yesterday, looking to enjoy a good soul food meal! It was everything but good. I am all for supporting black owned businesses. But the food was horrible 🥺🥺🥺. The turkey wings were too spicy covered in some type of gravy have no clue what it was. The yams were burnt, the cornbread was too sweet!! The collard greens tasted spongy, the rice was cold. I asked for an uptown they didn't have it made. We were offered Snapples in a bottle. I requested lemonade the waitress offered soda. I don't drink soda and have nothing against soda drinkers. But come on Sis! Finally I asked for water and was brought a plastic bottle of Nestle Life water. On top of that were given plastic forks to eat with. I was done! My Father In Law ordered the Oxtails and they were so greasy and tough he could not chew them! The only good thing from the entire meal was the Macaroni and Cheese and that was suspect. Needless to say we were on the fence about paying for the food. But we ordered it and did not want to cause a scene. Therefore, we all paid and left quietly. Before we made it home, the food was tossed 😫😫😫Hopefully, in time the food will improve. But for now, we will not be dinning at Betty Lee Jeans. We were sore disappointed! Especially after traveling looking for some great food.
December 30 · Mrs M. Denise DaugettI was totally impressed with the 25 year old Black owner. He was charming, energetic and loaded with hospitality!!! We love the school bus mural and the civil rights leader wall in the restaurant. The food was very flavorful and there was not an excessive waiting time. I ordered the cat fish nuggets, Mac n cheese and yams. To top it all off they have a separate room where they have karaoke and other performances. Next one is on October 11th. I will be there!!!
October 05 · Dedette FosterThe food is great, it's real sould food!! Plus lately they have been open and consistent with the hours they serve food. But in the past it was touch and go on service. Everyone is always nice, but they are often out of several menu items. And the cornbread runs out the fastest. I.would love to support more often, but just hoping they can keep the hours going.
November 22 · Danna DennisThe owner is an awesome soul. I got side orders only but I was very full. There are no vegetarian or vegan options but no pork either. They host events in the back where you can rent the space and be fed that sits up to 50 people. And the food is delicious. Thank you for lighting up Lyons Avenue with this hidden gem
