What is worth choosing
For New Yorkers in Queens, **Brooklyn Born Pizzeria** is worth choosing for its authentic commitment to the traditional **Coal-Fired Brick Oven** pizza method. When seeking that specific New York-style thin crust with a smoky, crisp finish—a style that is harder to find than the standard oven bake—this is a primary destination. The sheer breadth of the menu, extending from specialty items like the **Famous Clams Pie** and **12" Nutella Pizza** for dessert to full-service **Italian restaurant** quality appetizers, makes it an ideal spot for more than just a quick slice. The environment, which balances a **Casual** and **Cozy** feel with an active effort to be an inclusive space, caters wonderfully to diverse New York crowds, from **Family-friendly** gatherings to **Groups** looking to enjoy a dinner out. The strong accessibility features and plentiful **Free parking** are notable advantages in this part of the city. While customer feedback has occasionally noted inconsistencies in pizza preparation (like sogginess or over-charring) and a premium price point, the promise of authentic, high-temperature, coal-fired pizza—a taste often hyped by locals—and the staff's reported willingness to accommodate issues like re-making a pie, means that for a true taste of this iconic pizza style and a full Italian meal in a welcoming setting, Brooklyn Born remains a compelling option in the Douglaston dining scene.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Disappointing ExperienceI was really looking forward to trying this place, but I left pretty disappointed. The personal pizza I ordered was burnt, which really ruined the flavor. On top of that, it cost $28—for a single personal-sized pizza! That price would be steep even if the quality matched it, but unfortunately, it didn’t. Not worth the money 👎
May 08 · Chalitharanga NiwunhellaMy girl used to dine here as a child, often with her family. She hyped the place up and was very excited to live out her past. When we arrived, we were seated quickly. Our pizza came out within 5 mins of ordering which was extremely quick to which the server responded “I told them to rush it”. That was fine, as we were both starving. However the pizza looked sad. It was very soggy and the cheese had no pull. She took one bite and couldn’t finish the slice. There was no truffle flavor either. We realized that the pizza came out so fast because it was not freshly prepared and had been sitting already. We could be completely wrong about this but that was the impression the pizza gave us, due to the composition of the cheese. My girl sent it back and a fresh pie was made. It was much better than the original that was brought out however I was not blown away.I appreciate that the server and kitchen were accommodating in preparing a new pizza but it should have been right the first time. The photos online looked very good, and the recipes on the menu sounded delicious but I was disappointed. The bathroom had a cigarette smell to it.I noticed the sink was clogged and contained cigarette ashes. Dirty look if you ask me.Would I dine again, probably not. Pizza was a 5 out of 10.Shame because the place was talked up a lot and they even had signs boasting “award winning calzones” & “voted best wings in the country” which are bold statements.
November 03 · Anthony LuteroWhen you first walk in, the place has a peculiar smell that’s a bit off-putting. Unfortunately, the garlic knots and pizza were burnt, which was really disappointing. The saving grace was our waitress—she was very nice and attentive, and that’s the only reason I’m giving this more than one star.
September 20 · Taneya SheffeyI’ve been twice at this location , both times looks empty , heavy smell of fire ..to a point of feeling nauseous , it seems they don’t have an adequate ventilation system. The dishes were dirty , heavy grease and sauce stains , same with the utensils. Food was decent , nothing amazing , just decent . Not cheap ….
August 29 · Claudiu GeorgeWas feeling famished after 85 miles of cycling. Passed by here many times and always wanted to give it a try. The urge was unbearable today due to the stomach growls.Walked in and was going to order 2-3 slices but then was informed they only serve pies. “I can eat a horse” as the saying goes. So I’m game.Asked what was popular and was told “the Margherita Pie for $25.” After being told it only takes 5 minutes preparation. I’m sold!Fastest service ever. It only took 20 seconds for the pie to land in my hands after placing the order. One just came out of the oven and they decided to give it to me first since the customer hasn’t arrived yet. 🙏🏻🙏🏻I picked up a slice right there and ate it on the way to the garage. By the time I placed the box in the front seat, I got to working on a 2nd slice . Pizza is really good. Thin crust and a bit of sweetness in the tomato sauce. The pizzas are cooked to order in a charcoal brick oven. I enjoyed the experience and devoured another 3 slices when I got home. It’s definitely better once it comes out of the oven hot.Job well done Grimaldi’s 👍👍.
