Charlotte’s Speakeasy Introduce
For those in the New York area seeking a truly unique and historical nightlife destination, look no further than Charlotte’s Speakeasy in Farmingdale, Long Island. This acclaimed establishment isn't just a bar designed to look like a 1920s speakeasy—it's the genuine article, operating in the very basement that once served as a clandestine watering hole during the Prohibition era of the Roaring Twenties. Tucked away beneath a friendly frozen yogurt shop, the true magic of Charlotte’s Speakeasy is its successful balance of historical authenticity with modern comfort, creating an atmosphere that is both cozy and trendy, and widely celebrated on Long Island.
The journey to the bar itself is an essential part of the experience. Patrons enter Charlotte’s Desserts on Main Street, walk to the back of the shop near the frozen yogurt handles, and locate a seemingly ordinary bookcase. Only with the weekly password—a nod to the secrecy of the era—is the entrance revealed, leading down a flight of stairs and transporting guests a century back in time. This commitment to an immersive, old-school experience, combined with a focus on great drinks and service, has consistently earned the venue accolades, including being named 'Best Nightclub on Long Island' multiple times.
Charlotte's Speakeasy provides a friendly and inclusive environment, designed to be a transgender safe space and LGBTQ+ friendly, ensuring that all groups feel welcomed. The dedication of the owners, the DeVito brothers, to personally oversee operations most nights ensures a high standard of quality and service, aiming to provide a memorable experience for every guest, whether they are looking for a casual drink or celebrating a special occasion.
Charlotte's Speakeasy is conveniently situated at 294 Main St, Farmingdale, NY 11735, placing it in the heart of Farmingdale Village on Long Island. Farmingdale is a vibrant area with a rich history, and the speakeasy’s location adds a layer of community and local charm to the outing.
Accessibility details for guests to consider:

- Parking is available through Free street parking and a nearby Paid parking lot, though street parking can sometimes be limited, especially on busy nights.
- The entry process, requiring a password and entrance through a secret bookcase door in Charlotte's Desserts, adds to the theme but requires a brief initial interaction in the front shop.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Based on the reviews, I found this place to be overrated. To start, they advertise they close at 12:30 on a weekend Saturday which is early itself but in reality they actually close at 12 midnight (last call). Inside was kind of dead and not worth the $20-$25 they charge for drinks. Service was friendly and bartender was nice but still, I wouldn’t go here again.
June 01 · Jobin JosephI had my daughter’s Bridal Shower here yesterday, it was incredible. From the moment we walked in we felt welcomed. The staff was amazing, the food and drinks were incredible. I can’t say enough good things about this venue. I would highly recommend and will be using this venue again!!
September 08 · Pamela ProbstWow! This place was fantastic! Plan a date night here! You walk through a yogurt shop. You make your way to the back where an unassuming person is hanging. You start a conversation and you acknowledge that you are there for the speakeasy by providing the password. After speaking the password you are directed to the secret entrance. It's an underground world you just entered! Live music is playing. Lots of people are just hanging and enjoying the environment. Drinks are delicious! I didn't order food. I will go again! It's located in a village so parking can take a minute. You gotta go check it out !
December 04 · Tina HThis was definitely fun! We went for the experience of going to a speakeasy. This did not disappoint. The food, the service, and the drinks were great. The Willie Steel Band was amazing. I would love to see them again. Back to Charlotte's... loved the cocktail "Charlotte's Secret," very refreshing. We tried the Burratta salad and the pizza. Will definitely come back. Note that if you want a table, I suggest you call Thursday at 9:00 am on the dot, they get reserved quickly. I did not post all the pictures, so you can experience it for yourself. Oh, and btw you can go out the ice cream shop and enjoy a cone on your way out, lol. We did! :-)
October 21 · Aquiana Arias-CallmanWhat a fun concept! This was so a fun and unique experience! Had to solve a riddle to get into the secret entrance inside of an ice cream shop! The drinks and staff were fabulous. We were able to hear live music in this cozy basement speakeasy! True history as well!
