What is Worth Choosing
For first-timers and loyal regulars, the menu at Court Street Grocers features several standout sandwiches that have achieved near-legendary status in New York City. The expert layering of flavor and texture is what truly makes their offerings worth the elevated price point, justifying its reputation as an elevated sandwich experience in an elevated neighborhood.
For the Classics:
- The Reuben: Often cited as one of the best in NYC, this sandwich features house-corned short rib, Swiss, sauerkraut, and their unique 'comeback' sauce on quality Orwasher's rye bread. The use of corned short-rib instead of standard brisket adds a richer, fattier, and more flavorful element to this deli staple.
- Italian Combo: This is a TKO (Technical Knockout) in the world of heroes. It’s packed with mortadella and soppressata, three cheeses (Swiss, mozzarella, pecorino), arugula, white onion, mayo, and their signature 'CSG hoagie spread.' The meticulous balance of thinly-sliced cured meats, sharp cheeses, and tangy spread makes it a deeply satisfying choice.
- Pork Roll: A nod to Jersey-style breakfast, this is a must-try morning option. It features soft scrambled eggs, Taylor ham (pork roll), and American cheese on a white bun, providing a perfect and hearty start to the day.
For the Inventive and Vegetarian:
Court Street Grocers is particularly lauded for its creative vegetarian and vegetable-forward options, proving that a great hero doesn't always need meat.
- Vegitalian Combo: A brilliant meatless take on the classic combo, which one customer called a "perfect sandwich: sweet, savory, salty, tangy." It substitutes the cured meats with thinly sliced roasted sweet potato. This is then combined with Swiss, mozzarella, pecorino, arugula, white onion, mayo, and the essential 'CSG hoagie spread.'
- Ollieflower: A very popular vegetarian option, featuring roasted cauliflower, provolone, broccoli rabe, a kick of crystal hot honey, and mayo on a seeded hero. The unexpected pairing of cauliflower and hot honey creates a unique and impactful flavor profile.
- Broccoli Reuben: Another excellent meat-free spin on a classic, this sandwich uses roasted broccoli in place of corned beef, combined with Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and comeback sauce on rye bread.
- Tunaberry: An incredibly unique and popular fish sandwich that combines tuna salad with horseradish mayo, white onion, cranberry apple sauce, and arugula on Sullivan Street Stecca bread. The blend of horseradish heat and cranberry sweetness makes this an unexpected crowd-pleaser.
In conclusion, Court Street Grocers consistently delivers a quality, memorable sandwich experience in Carroll Gardens. Its commitment to quality ingredients, inventive combinations, and superior execution ensures its place as a favorite New York City spot for both comforting classics and exciting new flavors.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1bit hesitant to try given it was a local chain however, it lives up to the name. had the pork roll which is a bacon, egg and cheese and the bacon is essentially crispy and the roll was basic brioche bun but overall had good structure and doesn't disappoint for 12 bucks. it was okay but The vibes are nice in there and sandwiches. good
May 25 · Michael ChengFirst came here in like 2019, been eating the same sandwich ever since. The Vegitalian is a perfect sandwich in my books; sweet, savory, salty, tangy.About $20 after a bag of Voodoo chips and a sandwich, it’s not the cheapest. It is what it is: an elevated sandwich in the elevated neighborhood of Carroll Gardens.Love this place!
April 27 · Patrick NoThe Droopy sandwich was very good but I knew when I picked up the bag and it weighed 2 ounces, I was gonna be disappointed. For $18, I was expecting a hefty sandwich that I could eat in two sittings but this thing was gone in 5 minutes. The sandwiches are very good with great ingredients but extremely light for a hero.
July 05 · DSWe went in the middle of the week at lunch time, so it was no busy at all we were very lucky(every time we walk by it is very busy). First time being here and I was very impressed with all the options of bake goods, products and the extensive menu.I order the cubano sandwich and it was good all the flavors where there but for me it was a little salty and it had to much sauce, so it is very messy to eat be aware of that.I think I’ll go back to try other things from the menu. They have outdoor and indoor seating (big space). All the staff was very friendly!
September 28 · Adriana De Pitkin$40 after 2 sandwiches, a soda and a drink.Use to love this place but it’s no longer affordable. Back to the bodega for a Sammy it is!
