Desi Tadka Introduce
For residents and visitors in the heart of Jersey City, particularly along the bustling Newark Avenue, **Desi Tadka** offers a compelling option for those seeking Indian cuisine. This casual restaurant has established itself as a reliable destination for a wide range of offerings, blending traditional Indian flavors with the comfort and speed demanded by the fast-paced New Jersey lifestyle. Known for providing a welcoming and "at home" service experience, Desi Tadka aims to be a regular stop for locals, groups, and solo diners throughout the day.
The core attraction of Desi Tadka is its comprehensive daily buffet. This feature provides patrons with an "amazing" spread of variety, allowing diners to sample numerous dishes in one sitting. The restaurant positions itself as a place where food is "freshly made always and extremely tasty," which contributes to its appeal as a convenient spot for **Lunch** and **Dinner**. Beyond the main meals, the menu includes quick bites and snacks that are prepared fresh, catering to those who need a brief, flavorful stop. This focus on familiar and hearty dishes places its offerings squarely in the category of **Comfort food** and **Small plates**, making it highly versatile for different appetites.
While the atmosphere is consistently described as **Casual**, perfect for a relaxed meal, the restaurant is a recognized spot for the local community and **Groups**. Its reputation is built on offering a great variety and an accessible dining format. However, as noted by customer feedback, the quality can be inconsistent, particularly later in the dining hours, with occasional issues regarding temperature, seasoning (e.g., being "toooo spicy" or having "extremely high" salt), and the freshness of buffet items. The management's stated practice of making food in "small batches throughout the day" is intended to maintain freshness, yet customers have observed variable quality. Prospective diners should note the excellent potential for great food and personable service, but consider visiting earlier in the day when the buffet is freshly set. The buffet structure, which sometimes includes sweets, provides a full dining experience, from savory entrees to **Dessert**.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Fantastic Indian restaurant. First and foremost, service is impeccable, personable, and feels at home. Food is freshly made always and extremely tasty. They have buffet every day and spread of variety is amazing. DONT miss this place guys. They have snacks too, freshly done.
April 11 · BobbyThe erstwhile 'Bengal Sweetshop' is renamed to Desi Tadka. The name changed. The ambience improved. But, the quality of food drastically deteriorated. This is a buffet place. In two months, visited 4 times. Two times, took a friend. In one visit, food was okay. But, the other times, the food was not even average. One time, two vegetables were stale and had foul smell. Upon informing the manager, she tested the food and immediately removed. Another time, salt was extremely high. Today (Aug 11, 2024), the experience is the worst. We went an hour before the closing time. None of the items is eatable.Toooo spicy (even veggies, including paneer item) or cold. One dal was completely out. Another vegetable was out. That left us with three items: cabbage (cold and tasteless), paneer (very spicy), and a watery-dal.Usually, do not eat dessert here. But, today, purposefully tried to check the quality of three sweets that were part of buffet. All of them were stale and tasteless. Since they also have a sweetshop, it seems that they have been keeping close-to-expiry sweets in the buffet as if they offer many options. Rasgulla is dry. Jilebi is juice-less.My friend tried a piece of chicken (it's okay as it is less spicy than paneer), a small piece of fish (horrible), and a small piece of egg (too spicy)... ended with some yogurt and a sweet (which is dry and tasteless). We gave feedback to the owners/manager. They tried to convince us that they make food in small batches throughout the day and taste might change. This stated inconsistency does not sound well. I have known this place for over 10 years (i.e. before it is renamed recently). Have thought for a while before leaving this feedback. In the best interest of the prospective customers, sharing the experience. I hope that they improve the quality of food, do not keep stale food in buffet, and maintain the consistency.Even after seeing our plates partly unused (means we did not get refills after trying tiny portions), visibly seeing us that we hardly ate anything, and listening our feedback, they charged the same price, which is $14.99. We did not say a word as we have left it to their wisdom and customer service. We will not eat this food even if someone gives free of cost.
