Di Fara Pizza Introduce
For New Yorkers and visitors alike, the quest for the quintessential New York pizza slice often leads to one legendary, unassuming storefront in Brooklyn: Di Fara Pizza. Located on Avenue J, this historic establishment is widely regarded as one of the country's most iconic pizzerias, celebrated for its authentic, meticulously crafted pies that represent the "holy grail" of classic New York-style pizza. Since opening its doors in 1965 by founder Domenico "Dom" DeMarco, an Italian immigrant from Caserta near Naples, Di Fara has built a global reputation on a foundation of quality, tradition, and an unwavering commitment to flavor.
The mystique of Di Fara is rooted in its dedication to premium, imported ingredients, including a three-cheese blend of fresh buffalo mozzarella, fior di latte, and Parmigiano-Reggiano, high-quality San Marzano tomatoes for the sauce, and a generous finish of hand-snipped fresh basil. This combination results in a slice that is simultaneously complex and simple—a perfect balance of tangy sauce, rich cheese, and a crust that is crispy yet foldable. The restaurant proudly continues this legacy, offering both the classic thin-crust Regular Pie ($32.00) and the thicker, rich Sicilian-hybrid Square Pie ($36.00). Specialty options like the Difara Special Pie ($36.00) and the Chaos Pie ($42.00) cater to those looking for a unique taste experience.
Though the atmosphere is casual and reflects the pizzeria’s decades of history, the experience is often described as a culinary pilgrimage. Visitors often note the unique taste and quality that justifies the trip to this long-standing Brooklyn institution, securing its status as a local specialty and a New York City treasure.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I'm not a native to NY so I'm sure my opinion is going to differ from the vast majority of the local 5-star reviews. I hit up Di Fara in a symbolic foodie style pilgrimage to find the pizza that best symbolizes the original Brooklyn slice. Di Fara has been around forever and its mystique is pretty well known in the pizza world... I found it to be a little less magical than I hoped for. I got a regular pie and when I opened the box what I found was a slightly disappointing and definitely greasy pizza that without its storied history wouldn't hit the three stars I'm giving it. Mr. DeMarco has been making these pizzas for over 50 years in the same location with countless... seriously countless awards and recognition over the decades, which makes it worth checking out :)
September 14 · Curtis StoneI've only been here a handful of times , but everytime I make the trip to Brooklyn, visiting this place is always on my mind for lunch. Parking is always annoying, I parked a block away but its normal for this area, especially if you want to sit and dine in.They have a unique style and taste for their brand of pizza and walking in to the store you can see why. Di Fara has been around for decades and the history is well showcased in the store.I tried the square and a regular slice and though it was the most money I ever spent on a pizza slice, it was well worth it. The sauce is flavorful and overwhelming. The crust is crunchy and a perfect balance to the cheese. The touch of basil leaves on the pizza is also a great compliment. I ordered 1 slice and when I was done I ordered 2 more immediately.Overall one of the most iconic pizza spots in the United States with great pizza.
April 22 · S. KeemanI was expecting it to be a busy place with lot of crowd, but was surprised to find no one over there, little sad that how it lost its charm in the last few years. Pizza was decent, I honestly felt Lucali to be better than this, but yeah surely it’s among the top pizzas of mine in NYC. Crust is little too hard.
September 02 · Shanthan Kumar PadisalaI got the chance to visit with my family last weekend, and the pizza certainly blew all expectations. I read a couple of reviews beforehand to get a feel for the place and recommend it to my family when we arrived. The service was quick, and the pizza did not disappoint. It was one of the best slices I've ever had; all the toppings blended so well, and it was a decent-sized portion! I highly recommend it and can't wait to visit again if I'm ever in New York.
June 27 · Daniel LyThis is a legit Italian pizzeria. Their pizza takes you straight to Italy. It has been operated by a family since 1965. Classic. This is a must go place for pizza lovers in Brooklyn.
