Dinosaur Bar-B-Que Introduce
For New Yorkers craving the authentic, smoky flavors of Southern barbecue, there’s no need to travel far. A true institution of the NYC food scene, Dinosaur Bar-B-Que brings a taste of down-south comfort right to the heart of Brooklyn. Located in the lively neighborhood of Gowanus, this restaurant is much more than just a place to eat—it's a destination for a good time, great food, and a lively atmosphere. With its roots dating back to three biker enthusiasts cooking out of a 55-gallon drum, Dinosaur Bar-B-Que has evolved into a celebrated spot, but it has never lost its commitment to genuine, slow-smoked barbecue.
The core of the menu is built around high-quality, pit-smoked meats, from tender St. Louis ribs and juicy pulled pork to a highly-praised USDA Prime brisket. Each dish is crafted with care, and the rich, smoky flavors are a testament to the time-honored techniques used. While the barbecue is the star of the show, the menu also boasts a wide array of classic American fare, including burgers, sandwiches, and a diverse selection of homemade sides. From the savory mac and cheese to the tangy coleslaw and the excellent cornbread, every side is designed to perfectly complement the rich flavors of the smoked meats.
Dinosaur Bar-B-Que’s appeal extends beyond its food. The atmosphere is consistently described as casual, cozy, and lively, making it an ideal spot for almost any occasion. It's a place where families can feel at home, groups can gather for a raucous good time, and solo diners can enjoy a satisfying meal at the bar. With its full bar, live music, and friendly "fiery hospitality," Dinosaur Bar-B-Que offers a complete dining and entertainment experience that’s truly unique to New York.
While some patrons have noted that service can be a bit slow during peak hours and the noise level can be quite high, these are often considered a part of the lively, bustling environment. The general consensus remains that the food is a hit, with many praising the quality and generous portion sizes that ensure you won’t leave hungry. It’s a place that has built a devoted community of patrons who appreciate its commitment to authentic flavors and its role as a welcoming neighborhood hub.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Dinner at dinosaur BBQ in Gowanus, Brooklyn, NYC.Made a reservation and our party of 5 was seated right away.Cons: service very slow, food service very slow, and crazy loud. My wife had difficulty speaking to the person next to her.Pro: everyone enjoyed the food. My wife and I didn't love it. Sauces too vinegary. Sweet tea on point. They've got outdoor dining that's dog friendly, but we did indoor last night. Parking can be tough in the area.
September 28 · David Asekoff⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3/5)Cornbread was excellent and the cider cocktail hit the spot. Outdoor seating gave me a little old-school New Orleans vibe, which I liked. But the rest of the meal disappointed: dry brisket/ribs, bland mashed potatoes, plain mac & cheese, and a sausage that needed more kick. Service was fine, dogs were welcome, but overall it felt like Dinosaur BBQ is leaning too hard on the same tired playbook.
September 20 · Daniel BThis was my first time to the Brooklyn outpost of Dinosaur BBQ - though I have been to their Harlem location before. I was surprised how familiar it felt. The host was very friendly and accommodating and even stepped in when our server got overwhelmed by a larger group seated before us.The portions of Dino are amazing - considering the 65 million year dearth of supply - and yet so tasty and fresh. It’s pretty incredible when you think about it - that something so old can be so tasty and moist.I ended up with the brisket plate which was a nice large portion - very moist and tasty and sides of Mac & cheese (a must) and the roasted sweet potatoes with nuts. My friend got one of their sandwiches - the True Blue Bar-B-Que which he devoured before helping himself to some of my remaining brisket. The iced tea was refreshing and helped us recover from our long journey and the heat of a New York summer day.The space is plenty big enough for groups of any size and they do have the ability to host private groups in private space. The food came out plenty quick once we got our order in - so fast in fact, we stuck around enjoying the AC and those iced teas before heading off to a show down the street.
June 24 · Jordan GaryGreat spot to have chilled time with friends. Lots of choices, including desserts. Nice bar area for quick meal too.❤️🔥🍪✨Caramel chocolate chip cookie square was surprisingly my VIP and a hidden wonderful treat. It was rich, flavorful, crunchy, chewy and soft at the same time. I grabbed one to go (they have sundae as dessert if dine-in) it was amazing.🍖🦴Petit trio plate was a great option for ppl who want to try the top 3 kinds of meat but still want space for sides/ desserts. Ribs might be my favorite in the plate. The meat could be easily pulled off from the bone. (Brisket was the second and pulled pork the third. But them were all good and not dry at all.)Sides might be the part that think that was not that impressive. They were good, average. Cornbread was slightly dry.Sweet potatoe pie was not sweet, kinda a healthier option I guess! Pretty light.
