East Bamboo Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For New Yorkers in the Eastchester area seeking convenient and familiar Chinese cuisine, East Bamboo has long been a fixture in the local dining landscape. Situated on Mill Road, this restaurant aims to provide a straightforward and accessible option for those craving classic American-Chinese dishes. Operating primarily as a neighborhood spot, East Bamboo offers a casual atmosphere and is popular for both Lunch and Dinner, catering to Solo dining and Family-friendly crowds.
The restaurant's focus is clearly on quick service and convenience, offering a full range of service options from Dine-in to No-contact delivery. The menu is built around traditional favorites, offering Comfort food, Quick bite options, Small plates, and dedicated Vegetarian options, ensuring that there is something for almost everyone.
However, it is crucial for local users in the New York region to approach East Bamboo with full awareness of recent and highly concerning customer feedback. While some establishments experience minor fluctuations in quality, public reviews for East Bamboo highlight a severe decline in food quality and serious breaches of basic kitchen hygiene and food safety standards. Long-term customers report a significant change in the quality of staples like General Tso's Chicken and rice, noting smaller, lower-quality cuts of meat, and a generalized "greasy mush of bland tastes" in fried items, suggesting rancid or overused cooking oil. Most alarmingly, one customer reported witnessing kitchen staff repeatedly handle food intended for customers with their bare hands, turning away to consume pieces of chicken and spare ribs while waiting in line. This reported behavior suggests a potential disregard for public health standards.

What is Worth Choosing
What is worth choosing at East Bamboo is the sheer convenience and the historical status of the restaurant as a long-standing local Chinese spot that is familiar to many in the Eastchester area. The restaurant offers a dependable array of classic American-Chinese Comfort food items and provides excellent accessibility for both drivers and those needing home delivery.
From a menu perspective, the restaurant likely focuses on the most popular takeout items, such as General Tso's Chicken and various rice and noodle dishes, offering quick and affordable meals for Lunch and Dinner. The availability of No-contact delivery is a particularly valuable service for customers prioritizing safety and convenience.
However, the most significant factor a New York user must consider before choosing East Bamboo is the extremely concerning and consistent recent customer feedback. Due to the serious, specific allegations of rapidly deteriorating food quality, rancid oil taste, and, most critically, repeated instances of unhygienic food handling by kitchen staff observed by a patron, we strongly advise local users to exercise extreme caution or consider alternative options in the Westchester area.
While the location and services (especially delivery and parking) are highly convenient, the public health and quality concerns raised in the reviews are severe. One customer stated they "will not return," and another called the food "exceptionally gross" and a "complete waste of money." A commitment to customer safety and high food quality is paramount, and the recent reports suggest a failure in these fundamental areas. Therefore, while East Bamboo offers convenience, potential patrons should be fully aware of the reported quality and hygiene issues before deciding to order.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I don’t mean to overreact but East Bamboo is without a doubt the worst most disgusting “food” I’ve had in recent memory. I’ve had it before and it was never great but tonight was exceptionally gross.Anything fried tastes like it was all cooked in the same rancid oil. No distinct flavors between dishes just a generalized greasy mush of bland tastes that will leave a film residue in your mouth. Anyone who knows the restaurant business knows that these places all get their food from the SAME huge Chinese food suppliers. The good restaurants doctor up this corporate trash as best as they can or make some dishes fresh, the bad ones serve what they pick up as -is.The only good thing about the East Bamboo meal is that tomorrow is Friday and I was able to put everything in the trash for pickup tomorrow.Complete waste of money.
September 18 · M R (MR)For 22 years I had LOVED East Bamboo and even though I live a couple towns over, I would still stop in once in awhile because their food was the best American Chinese food around. Recently, I stopped by to get my regular order and I couldn’t help but notice the quality is vastly different than the past. The General Tso’s Chicken sauce has changed a little and the rice, a power quality, was over cooked and increasingly starchy but not in a good way. The chicken, which use to be generous chunks of chicken breast, are not small more gristly pieces. Also, as I waited in line, I saw the gentleman making the fried chicken and spare robes sneaking pieces of the chicken to his mouth without gloves etc.. he would look around, take a lice from the large bowl, put it in a rag, and then put it up to his mouth while turning away from front towards the back. This happened repeatedly as I waited to pick up my food. I hope they are given lunch and dinner breaks. Additionally, I noticed they no longer have the safety matts on the floors to help backs and slip injuries in the kitchen. Sadly, I will not return and will stick to my immediate local area.
July 31 · Elizabeth WagnerBeen coming here for years and always enjoyed it. However, since new ownership a few years ago things have been inconsistent. Have given it a few chances to see how things go and if they improve. But even basic boneless ribs which was always great here, are now hit or miss, sometimes only getting burnt little pieces of ends. There were always a few ends mixed in with mainly strips of pork rib. Hope management can correct this.
June 25 · Vin BYour typical Chinese take out place. Food is good and overall satisfied.I gave 4 stars on atmosphere because it's a take out joint. I mean how much atmosphere you going to get?
May 12 · Cue LFood is always great as expected. It’s a bit more pricey than its competitors but the quality and taste of the food is absolutely worth it. Place is usually pretty busy during dinner time.
